Passenger train Battery Box issue

So, after putting together my new passenger train, I went to put in the batteries to run it. I got the remote open and 3 batteries placed inside.

The trouble started with the battery box for the train. Right now, after about 15 minutes, I still cannot get the screws loose. They are about to be stripped pretty soon, so I quit. Does anyone have any idea's how to loosen them? If they get stripped, I'm out of luck, or will Lego replace the box? I'm not sure what to do...

SMALL philips head screw driver. The screws dont come all the way out, a few turns and they are loose enough for the top to come off. I have the cargo train and had no trouble with the battery box.

I have been using a screwdriver for glasses, but they are literally stuck and won't even turn the slightest...

You need a screwdriver with a bigger handle. You need to push into the screw while you are turning to keep from stripping the screws, and you can't get enough force with the glasses screwdriver. I just put batteries into my passenger set battery box. This is a great set!

I was aware of this screw issue when I put my cargo train together.

Although I didn't have any problems in opening it I don't think it was a good idea not to use just clickable locks.

Metal screws and soft plastic - it is just a matter of time when the plasctic will loosen and not hold the screw any more.

My problem solver: I ordered two more Li-Po-boxes.

I have to agree, the screwdriver alone wasn't enough for me. Had to get a pair of pliers to firmly hold the screwdriver while I twisted the battery box. They really needn't be that tight. Maybe its a way to tell the kids that they need adult help?

Hmm... I think I maybe just picked a very suitable size of screwdriver (i.e. exactly the right dimensions for the screw head). I did make sure not to overtighten the screws when closing it again!

I've just picked up some rechargeable NiMH AAAs from Lidl for €8 for 8 of them (will use ordinary ones in the controller - they'll last for ages). A good deal for anyone else in Ireland - it's one of last week's "specials". I hope changing the batteries doesn't wear out the case, but on the other hand I'll probably only be changing them occasionally when I actually set up a train and run it (I've no permanent layout - even if I did I would probably only run the trains once in a while for short intervals).

OK, thought it was just me that found the screws very tight, I only had one of those little screwdrivers for glasses, after all, most people don't have heavy duty screwdrivers for little screws.

It would have been better if they had used a hex head screw, at least that way an allen key would have been easier to use, lego could even have supplied one! molded into a brick :-)
