Daniel Williams Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Hi, is anyone planning to go to NW Brickcon 2010? Or is it too early to talk about it? I'm planning to go, but wasn't sure if it would be packed or not. I've never been to Brickcon or any Lego conventions, so this should be fun. Oh and what are you guys bringing to NW Brickcon 2010? I'm bringing a somewhat large display of a small French village that I will post up pics on the other lego theme subforum later today. I'm bringing my older brother as well and a camera with two memory cards one for the convention and the other just in case I ran out of memory in the first one. I know it's in September, but it would be fun to discuss this with others before I plan out what I want to see. I'm saving up like never before and hoping to see some of you there. Peace out. Quote
DLuders Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 I'm from Spokane, WA and attended the BrickCon 2009 event in Seattle, WA. My family and I attended only the Saturday public display session, and the Exhibition Hall was absolutely packed as soon as the doors opened. The line extended up the street, and it took 50 minutes just to gain entry into the building. According to the BrickCon 2010 webpage http://www.brickcon.org/convention/chronology , the 2009 event attracted ~9,300 people. I believe that. Everyone was shoulder-to-shoulder, trying to peer at the displays. We left after an hour, but wanted to stay longer but the crowds were just too crazy. If you can, recommend registering for the event and seeing the various displays BEFORE the public packs the 34,000-square-feet Exhibition Hall at the Seattle Center. Compared to the BrickFest held every 2 years in Portland, Oregon, there really isn't enough room to accommodate a big crowd like that, but everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. My son's 18th Birthday is that weekend, so I may just go for Thursday-Friday and skip the public exhibition. I'll bring the '55 Buick, Lego rockets, and Technic Crowns pictured at http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?m=dluders . Quote
tedbeard Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 I'll be taking my usual van-load of friends and MOCs from Victoria. I'm only now starting to decide what to make/bring. I will try to bring some WWII for Operation Bricklord. I always bring at least a small something for the Castle and Town sections and hopefully another BrickScout camp. Quote
Carbohydrates Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 What are the themes this year? I loved last year's zombie invasion and bug builds. Quote
DLuders Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 According to http://www.brickcon.org/ , the 2010 BrickCon theme is "Tales of the Brick!" Quote
Carbohydrates Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 According to http://www.brickcon.org/ , the 2010 BrickCon theme is "Tales of the Brick!" I wonder what exactly that means. Meta creations made of LEGO about LEGO? Quote
tedbeard Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Besides the usual general themes The Brother's Brick are sponsoring the "Big in Japan Display". Quote
fallentomato Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 This will be my first time attending BrickCon. I've been to Brickworld 4 years in a row and that's been wonderful, but I'm really looking forward to meeting a whole new swath of fans and seeing totally different stuff. I'm really anxious to register, but they still don't seem to have the site ready for that... I wonder what exactly that means. Meta creations made of LEGO about LEGO? It's hidden on the community building page. "The overall Theme for BrickCon 2010 is "Tales of the Brick!" This taps into the idea that everything built by a LEGO enthusiast (of any age) tells a story. This means that MOCs all have Tales to tell. Tell your Tale at BrickCon 2010!" Quote
Daniel Williams Posted June 25, 2010 Author Posted June 25, 2010 I have a quesiton, does anyone know what happens on the first day and what might I miss if I arrive on the second day? Oh and what do I do when I bring a creation to the event? Do I just stand next to it or can I walk around without worry of it being stolen or is it at my own risk that someone might steal parts from my creation? Just curious, it's all so new to me these Lego events. Quote
