hoeij Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 The present set is VERY costly in my opinion because for such a price we get so little. I'll get this set when I see it in a store. Straight RC rails are worth $2.00 a piece, so four of them is $8.00. You're paying $12 for the rest of the set. Quote
LegoMavrick Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Still available at local toy store so got to go grab this kit NOW!! Always at the most inconvenint time do these great sets get discontinued. Quote

WesternOutlaw Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Hi LegoMavrick. Welcome to Train Tech. I see that you introduced yourself in our registry and I'll be reading more about you soon. Looking over the forum this morning, I saw your comments to a number of reviews and had the same question as Mikka. I would encourage you to read our EB site guidelines. While your comments are certainly welcome and appreciated, we do have a general rule about bumping older topics. In regard to bumping old reviews, if you're doing so to add something pertinent about the review or the set, then it's okay. If it's to say, "The set is still available..." or "I've got to get this one", then it's not okay. Commenting in such a manner bumps these older topics/reviews mixing them with new discussions. It looks like you've bumped at least 6 reviews in the past few hours. In regard to set availability, there's a topic here called Discontinuation Speculation that you might want to check. In looking at some of your your comments to the set reviews, Discontinuation Speculation may be a better place to discuss. Quote

Hechristensen Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Back to the review.... I really cant understand your (all) enthusiasm for this set.... IMO its rubbish (and yes I AM a dane, -a fellow countryman of the legobrick, so I dare say it ) Compaired to 7834 and 7866 I think its a joke! A complete nobrainer! Its a grey, simple, borring, "naked" picture! Where is the "wow-factor"? I wonder how many seconds it took the designer to come up with this one? I do understand the argument of not having the "controller-house", but why this wierd little(mini) excavator that lifts a complete track-section!?!? Why not make a set most of us can rely to? Some ideas: a lot of vegetation around the tracks like bushes and trees, railworkers trimming that vegetation or maybe cutting down a big tree, a lot of round 1x1 plates as gravel in and around the tracks, double crossing like the 7866, power cable poles along the track with cables, try to make the crossing in a "not right angle" to the road (hope you understand), just make it come alive..... Hey there a people at LEGO that earn SERIUS paychecks for comming up with ideas like this, not me. This is in no way meant as an accusation or to offend anyone, -but it's NOT always good just because it says LEGO on the box. I think we should expect and demand more from LEGO and their professionel builders! Again this is all my oppinion.... Quote
just2good Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Nice review! I always wanted this set back then but I never got to pick it up. Now I have a bit of motivation to pick it up since this set is 25% at my local LEGO store! Quote
domboy Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 (edited) I have to agree with a lot of previous comments, this set isn't much to speak of. Sure I bought it as it's the only crossing currently available at retail stores. It'd be much better if they ditched the vehicle and even the minifig and included a road baseplate instead. Without a baseplate the whole thing is rather delicate. Edited January 27, 2012 by domboy Quote
Trent Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 I was a tad grumpy that I'd missed this (I was waiting for a better price and it seems to have disappeared entirely in the UK) but on closer inspection, I'm not that bothered. I would like a level crossing so that I can integrate my train line with my town, but I don't have too much use for the vehicle, so I guess you're paying over the odds for the crossing itself, when I'd probably be better trying to make my own? Quote
Legobrandon Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Should we be expecting a new level crossing? I'm assuming the old one will be retired soon. Quote
Brickmamba Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 For a town railway combo layout this is a must buy and for this reason it is a good set, thanks for the review Quote
Bricktrain Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 I do find it a very basic set, but for someone building a layout from scratch it is usefull and especially the 4 straight track sections. That is the main reason I bought two, and I will find a place for the vehicles also. I do agree though that if you had an existing layout this set isnt one you would probably want. Quote
Legobrandon Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 I only got it because I need more straight track, plus I get a rail crossing along with it. So it is a win-win situation, for me. Quote
