Brickthing Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 With the final chapters of Journey's End and the like appearing on Bionicle.com, and new Hero Factory sets starting to hit the stores, it looks like BIONICLE is finally over. The sets themselves have lasted for almost 10 years, making the theme LEGO's second longest running non-licensed theme ever, with around 270 different sets produced (More than Star Wars to date! ). What does this mean for the BIONICLE forum of Eurobricks? Hero Factory is already being discussed here, however with the end of BIONICLE this forum will be broadening it's view to encompass all Action Figure related themes, which all contain similar pieces and revolve around much-larger-than-minifig-scale pose-able models. Thus, the new LEGO Action Figures forum will include reviews, discussion and MOCs related to: Bionicle Hero Factory Slizer/Throwbots Roboriders Ben 10 (moved from Licensed) Knights Kingdom (only the large figures, moved from Historic Themes) Galidor (I don't know where this ever was, but it's here now ) Dinosaurs (moved from Other Themes) Sports Hockey Figures Quote
Front Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 This is fine news in my opinion. I would have chosen the word Constraction Figures instead of Action Figures, as I think the LEGO products will always involve some form of building (construction). Nice new banner to fit the newly formed forum category. Quote

And I like the color scheme. Quote
vexorian Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 (edited) Except that the word constraction is horrible, horrible marketing gimmick :/ I would like my precious slizers not to be involved with that word. -- Edit : To be honest I am not sure about KK2 and dinosaurs being included here. Mostly because I think a very easy distinction would be to make a ball-joint rule. All themes that use the ball articulation system could go here. While the other belong elsewhere. If we go toward the "figure" distinction it gets hard as to define for example why exo force mech sets don't come here. Edited June 16, 2010 by vexorian Quote

Aanchir Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 I have to agree that the dinosaurs don't really seem to belong here. Just because they came in canisters doesn't make them action figures by any stretch of the imagination. And furthermore, there's nothing really separating them from minifig-scale sets-- in fact, the Jurassic Park III Studios sets used dinosaurs of almost the exact same design alongside normal minifigs. And then there are the baby dinosaur sets which are unquestionably System. Dinosaurs would make loads more sense in Other Themes. The Hockey figures would also make more sense in Other Themes IMO. No, they're not minifig scale, and yes, they use BIONICLE parts, but the same two facts apply to countless Racers sets. And Racers is classified under Other Themes (it's possible Technic-based Racers sets are under Technic; not sure about that. But if they are, then so should the hockey figures). There's a logical disconnect here. I have few issues with the inclusion of Ben 10, Galidor, and Knights' Kingdom, because while there are other subforums they might fit better under, they still fit the definition of action figures. The same does not apply for Dinosaurs or the Technic NHL Hockey sets. And unlike with Knights' Kingdom, Galidor, or Ben 10, I doubt either of those themes will get more love here than in Other Themes (who makes hockey MOCs anyway?) ----- Also, how is Constraction a marketing gimmick? Hardly anything public uses the term-- it's mostly used in-house, from what I've seen. If LEGO ever called the sets "constraction" sets in a catalog, I could understand your point, but as it is I've never seen the term used to market the sets. Quote

Of course not, now that you're starting to post a lot more stuff relating to other themes. Which is fine by me, as I'm just as much a fan of system as I am of Bionicle. Oh, and I third the notion of changing the forum name to "constraction figures." That title honestly makes a lot more sense, as it distinguishes all of lego's big figure lines from typical action figures. After all, I can't remember the last time I saw an average action figure that you could take apart, rebuild, and combine with other action figures and even vehicles. Quote
VBBN Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 Nice to have it all in one place. Though I recommend, seeing as to this is no longer strictly Bionicle and Slizer, that the Bionicle Moderator rank is changed to Action Figure Moderater and perhaps have an Action Figure Regulator. Quote
prateek Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 Very exciting news for sure. Now, we'll have everything organized nicely in one section Quote
