Hail!

I'm now working on my first MOC since I came back to Lego 2 weeks ago.

I want to build a large castle, and I'm going one step at a time.

I want four towers, one for each corner (this first design is going to be very simple). But thing is: I want all towers to be functional, not just esthetic.

I've been playing a bit with different designs, and the one from the new king's Castle seems nit to my eyes. So I'm using the same 3 diagonal wall pieces (sorry for lack of better metalanguage). The way I'm building it, there's a 2-stud space between each wall piece which gets a brick wall. I'm trying to make it fit in the green semi-round plate that comes with the King's Castle. Where a fourth diagonal wall piece would go is open, because that's how the soldiers get from the courtyard to the tower.

On top of the first structure goes a second one, very similar to the first. Then a third one - I want each tower to be at least 3 "wall pieces" high.

Everything so far is right but for one thing: I can't really figure out how to make the tower interior functional. There could be some weapons ok, maybe a table, but I've been thinking about a circular stair (I got the idea from the White Tower in the Tower of London: each tower is a big set of stairs leading onwards and downwards). I've checked the net for some ideas on how to make circular stairs, and the Harry Potter piece seems nice, but I odn't know how much space it takes - would it fit in a 4x4 interior?

And also, how do you usually build your towers? Are they there just for the sake of it, or do they get any function (excluding the obvious top of the tower)? And what about their interiors?

If you have any links, pics or whatever on the matter, please post it.

The round Harry Potter staircases look very nice, but also take up a lot of space.

I built a wizard's tower for the EB Community Castle Build in 2008, in which I used the staircase - and it took up literally the entire "shaft" of the tower.

Just see for yourself.

The only advice I can tell you is to experiment. Good luck with your project, it sounds like a lot of fun!

Thanks a lot. I love that the builder has a step-by-step album with comments. That really helps!

Same, his other work is well worth looking at, right now, those giant wooden doors are going to be very helpful. :sweet:
