Hail all!

People, I'm looking for Lego sets that really pay off - that are real value for money - as for building Medieval/Tudor/Castle/Kingdom/Pirates-style.

I recently bought the Medieval Village Market and I believe it's got a good set of bricks, parts and pieces you can use for building Medieval/Tudor/Castle/Kingdom-style houses, farms, buildings and the like (but maybe not that good for Pirates- although I have yet to check on that). And from what I've seen, it's well worth the price for all those parts.

So my question is: What other sets (any size) would you recommend that are real value for money - i.e., you get a good or very good set of bricks, parts and pieces fo a reasonable amount of money? (please mind the Castle/Pirates themes)

Also, would you say the Green Grocer, the Fire Brigade, the Grand Emporium and the Cafe Corner have good sets of bricks, parts and pieces to build Castle/Pirates stuff (castles, towers, houses, etc)?

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Minor spelling and grammar

For your purpose, the green grocer, market street and maybe emporium are your best bets as far as modular buildings go.

As far as other sets .... creator houses offer a noce variety of pieces too..

Hope it helps

Hmm... Thanks. You did help. I just read the reviews on those sets you mentioned. The Market Street is not available anymore and must be a pain to get one. I'll se as for the other ones. The creator houses are very nice indeed. Great parts.

If you're interested in Minifigs for your creations, I find that Drawbridge Defense (7079) is a great way deal, netting you 7 figs and a handful of pieces useful for Castle creations.

Ok, I could really use those minifigs. All of them, including the skeletons (my Castle MOCs are not usually about magic and fantasy - they are a bit closer to rality, Lego style).

All parts seem to be useful, and a nice set of useful pieces plus so many minifigs (7! The new 7946 King's Castle only has 8 - yes, 'only', it's a CASTLE!) for 27,00 bucks sounds fair.

Thanks for the tip!

Oh, I've been doing some math, too, and it seems to me that the Medieval Village Market is one of the best sets as for money value and building a medieval town: awesome set of pieses, 8 varied minifigs (soldiers, peasants, children and wenches), a horse, a tree, so many nice "equipment" (helmets, weapons, knives, a plate, small animals, a roast turkey...).

Am I wrong? What's everyone opinions?

MMV is probably one of the best Lego sets of any theme in the past few years. If you peek around at the reviews, you'd probably have trouble finding anyone who disagrees. You mentioned that you purchased it already - I don't think there's anything wrong with buying multiples for the pieces. Plus, it's the only way to get the Peasant torso.

A couple of more couldn't go wrong, I guess. I see many MOCs that use pieces from this set, but from the amount of parts, multiples of it.

Oh, and I didn't know about the peasant torso - thank you for that one!

I think that Drawbridge Defense (as well as MMV, of course) is a great choice. As you've said, it comes with 7 minfigures, 3 of which are exclusive to the set or quite rare (Jester), and a bunch more skellies and another crownie are always nice. A skeleton horse is an added bonus. The set also has a nice amount of bley, which is excellent for Castel movs, including some arches, some larger slopes and tall pieces, two of those large castle-battlement pieces, and a bunch of smaller bley bits as well. It's also got two burps, which can come in handy, and a nice array weaponry. All in all, Drawbridge Defense is a set with a great minfigure selection, the official model looks fabulous, and the piece selection is nice too. If you're looking to not spend too much, Drawbridge Defense is a great way to go, and certainly better value than any of the new Kingdoms line.

Thanks for the big comment and advice! I'll look for one with doubled efforts now! The 7 fig is really a way to buy people into this set. And you get many useful pieces along with them!

So I've been checking here and there for value for money and I found the Brick Buckets in the Lego website.

From what I see, the Basic Bricks Deluxe looks like a must, with many bricks of different and useful colors for what seems a fair price. The other buckets don't seem that useful for medieval building.

The Creator houses are fine, with many useful parts. The Apple Tree House and its blue roof, the Beach House and the yellow bricks/black roof and the Family Home and its tan bricks/red roof and a couple of other things. But I find these a bit overpriced, even at S@H (with the sole exception of the Beach House).

Any thoughts? Do you usually buy Brick Buckets for your MOCs or do you get things like Creator, Exclusives and regular sets (like Medieval Village Market or King's Castle)?

A bit more specifically: what do you think are the best sets/buckles to get roofs (black, red or blue)? And windows (tudor-style)?
