For the past three months, I have grown quite obsessed with the new SP3 series. The aliens are so awesome, and the ships are amazing(well, the bad guy ones, at least). This obsession finally led me to create something in that general style, which is a challenge because until yesterday, I did not own a single space set from any era!(except for a few SW sets and some inherited parts) Anyway, This beast of a ship was influenced by the design of the Lunar Limo and the Skull twins' ship.

Now I know some of you are going to say "Why is it called Squidman's Cruiser? It doesn't fit Squidman at all!", so I'm going to hopefully knock that out now with a quick explanation. You see, yesterday, I bought my first and only SP3 set: Suidman Pursuit. I hated squidman initially, but it ws the only set I could afford, and I was not going home without SOMEthing that day  . Anyway, I finally got Squidman out of the box and I LOVE him! he is one of the coolest minifigs I've ever seen.

And so when I got home, I put him inside the cruiser I had built and was surprised to find that he fit- large head and all! This, of course, make him the driver of this mad vehicle, and thus the vehicle gets its name. I think that Slizer or any of the skull twins would make better pilots, but Squidman works- besides, he now finally has his own rockin' ship.

So without further ado, I give you... SQUIDMAN'S CRUISER!

The thrusters. I imagine this ship is capable of all kinds of ridiculous (and need I say 'Ludicrous') speed.

The trunk actually opens! This was a feature that I accidentally made. The inside surprised me, as it is quite large.

...Large enough for a minifig-and probably lots of accessories, too!

The cockpit opens to show the pilot himself. It can fit any minifig quite snugly.

Here's a minifig alien (the head is from Harry Potter) for scale

The ornament seems a bit out of place doesn't it... Maybe it's not really an ornament...

4667792188_01069e6285.jpg

...Maybe it's a raygun!!! It doesn't match the color scheme, but Lego villains aren't known for being too bright when it comes to hidden things...

Just for fun I made a four-armed cronie. the head is from the Jaller Inika minifig. I blacked in the eyes and side holes. Voila! Instant head.

The cruiser gang claims another victim!!

Hope you guys enjoy! Comments and feedback appreciated-please no flaming or spam like my last topic here- that kind of stuff is really really annoying.

Nice little ship I like the color scheme! :classic: But the only thing better than the ship is that alien you made he's one of the coolest figs I've ever seen! :cry_happy:

glad you like it, but which alien? The fellow with the orange suit or the four-armed brute?

The form armed freak.

Nice MOC. Though I think it needs more greeble. I'm really taken by the mobster aspect of the SPIII line. In fact, I used the Lunar Limo in today's "Brick". (I just love the idea of a space ship with a hood ornament)

"greeble?" what's that?

It's the singular form of greebles.

yes, but what are 'greebles'? lol.

I've heard that term before- in reference to those parts that allow tilting, I think. is that them?

Firstly, lovely ship. Who cares if it doesn't fit the Squidman minifig colors, he can ride whatever vehicle he wants!

Greebling is a technique to make things look more industrial, machine-like. Common, easy-to-use greeble pieces are the 1x2 grill plate and the cheese grater (as it's come to be called), but also using lots of bits and bobs together can create a greebly effect. Some of the official Star Wars models have greebles, like the UCS Star Destroyer, Millennium Falcon, and Rebel Blockade Runner.

ah... I'm not sure I have so many of those... The cheese graters I definitely have none of, or I would've used 'em- they really add to the ship look.

Well, many vehicles in SPIII have black, red, grey and yellow colors(and some orange and lime).

I very like the ship,but i think it's need some more spikes,chains(and some stickers).Everything else is great.I also very like the four-armed dude.It remind me a minifigure from Mega Blocks(i don't like MB,but i liked it,when i was very yound)space theme.

Fantastic MOC! I really like the way you've got it to fit so well with the theme with only the one set, certainly looks authentic. It's also good to see another British Space Police fan. It's my favourite theme, I wish it was more commonly available here! Oh, and that four armed alien is great, too. I've been meaning to pick up some Bionicle figs to use in SP3, but I had no idea how versatile they are!

actually, I'm from the US- Tucson Arizona, to be exact... Unfortunate, since we hardly ever get new sets on time- we never got the minifigs series 1!

Anyway, I'm glad you like it :) The bionicle minifigs are...okay, but really only work for so many aliens, before they start looking the same. I prefer the droid bodies from SW, but there aren't enough heads that fit those bodies.

I'm low on spikes, and I tried the chains, but they looked... out of place. This vehicle is a little more of a luxury car with the potential to be badass  .

Although I think if I had some of the straight spikes, I'd definitely add them on. And I loathe stickers. I try not to use them when I build,as it prevents me from using those parts in anything other than that theme. But there are exceptions- like the Mars Mission alien ships.

I hate megabloks, too, but I admit that every now and again I wish Lego had figures like that.

Here's a good example of greebling by Prof. Larsson

neat-O! I'm notsure how much greeble is used in SP3 sets, but I think next time I just might add a bit more....

Ditto! This is a great ship. It would look nice with Hyperspeed Pursuit and Lunar Limo! I also love that 4-armed alien

Ahh, silly me! I'm sure there's an Innsmouth here in the UK, too

I also prefer the droid bodies for aliens, but you're right about the lack of headage, plus they tend to be fairly pricey, for what they are but you can make some lovely robots with them.

I kind of prefer the more classic, smoother LEGO style, and I think this MOC captures that.

wow! you guys REALLY like the four-armed brute!

In that case, I think I just might make him a ship as well- would y'all like that?

Anyway, I'm really glad you guys like this ship. I honestly don't know why I didn't post my stuff in the Sci Fi forum before, but you can expect LOTS more in the future.

Yes I'd love a ship for him!

And I can't wait for more!
