jamzee Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 I did get this "for myself" for Christmas with MMV and the Prison Tower Rescue but I don't think I can wait that long to build it! I've got the day off on Firday and the weather forecast is shocking so I might take the plunge on the Castle at least!!! Quote

Skafte Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 I'm really tempted to buy a second one of these (before even opening the first!) since it has such a good price here at the moment - almost half off which makes it just a bit more expensive than the US MSRP. I have looked for pics of two 7946 combined, but not found any. Anyone else? Quote

Skafte Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 Thank you both! I was more thinking of making a bigger footprint castle than a higher one, but that looks nice too! It is 700 SEK in some toy shops right now. Thats about 70 euros or 100 dollars. Quote
MCNwakeboard Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 Thank you both! I was more thinking of making a bigger footprint castle than a higher one, but that looks nice too! I initially created a castle with a larger "footprint" before making the taller version. It had a stable as one of the wall extensions and a small keep/hall as another. The main thing that I don't like about the tall version is that it is hard to access the interior, but it does look a little more imposing. I'll drop a link here if I can find some pictures of it. jamzee Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 Hi friends, just a quick query, ideally for those who may have both this and King's Castle Seige 7094, how does this one stack up against it? All opinion welcome (I'm new to Castle/Kingdoms)! Quote
Yeow Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 Does anyone's Knights Crown not stay on the guy's head?! Mine acts as if there is a spring in the bottom and will not stay on his head at all! Quote

Mine acts as if there is a spring in the bottom and will not stay on his head at all! I had the same problem... it was useful for combat though I added a small amount of blu-tac (you may have a different name for it - that sticky stretchy stuff you stick posters to the wall with, usually grey in colour) and it hasn't happened since. Sirrico Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Bought King's Castle just a few minutes ago at "Real"-market Leipzig for 50 Euros. I was thinking about buying this set since August. But as I saw this price, it was a must buy. It's my first castle since 1997 (Night Lord's Castle). Quote
Konrade Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 A great set, I just wish at least one of the figs had the visored helm, something that kinda disappeared along with the fantasy era. The gatehouse is great. Did anyone feel like it was an easy set to put up? it took me about an hour as opposed to the MMV which took me about five hours. I also was a little disappointed at the size.... Quote

Konrade Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 I do agree that MMV was ridiculously hard to build, I'd say more difficult than the Imperial Flagship even. But that's what I like in a set. Difficulty. I agree with the fact that more sets should be like that! Quote
ziljin Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 I have a question about the wall panels since this set has so many of them. Since they are not the same thickness as bricks, wouldn't that make your castle "weaker" at those sections since its thinner. As in if you showed off the interior of your castle, and there are those hollow spots from the panels. Those would be vulnerable siege points. And if you use a panel in your wall, shouldn't that mean someone should be able to look through it? So your walls might have several "floors" so that you can have troops on the top of the wall, as well as the middle of the wall to look through the windows. Am I just overthinking it? Quote

I had the same problem. It´s the crown thats the problem, if you put another crown on (from the Castle line) it stays on place. Quote
SWMAN Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Great review and great set. While it does seem like Lego Castle are getting a bit repetitive, the design is great and offers a lot of possibilities. I love the dark Pearl and wish that the Dragon Knights weren't always outnumbered lol. The new helmets are great to. My only problem is that on the Lion Knights with the red and white checker patten the white is not dark enough so the red bleeds through. Quote
Zeya Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 I don't have a problem with any of the knights' helmets. But my king's crown won't hold the feather in well. The feather just drops in without fitting snugly; if I tip him upside down, the feather will fall right out with no resistance. Quote
Nicker Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 (edited) Nice review! I think this is a very well designed set and the designers at Lego have obviously listened to the constructive criticism about the design some of their more recent efforts like 7094. We finally have a proper gatehouse after a decade of lacking gate design. The gatehouse accommodates the portcullis properly although having the arms that raise the drawbridge attach to the sides of the gatehouse instead of fully retracting into the wall when raised is unconventional it is only a minor design flaw that I can overlook. I really like the fact they have put a set of stairs that lead up to the battlements and towers. The modular design is nice as it can be rearranged in various configurations like some other more recent castle sets. I thought the mini catapults at the front of the castle were a bit gimmicky and felt like they were added as an afterthought. It would have been nice to have a larger room up inside the gatehouse instead of a small place for a mini fig to stand next to a table. I feel that this set is superior in design to the previous 7094 King Castle Siege even though it has a nice unique look to it. I thought that it would have been nice for this set to come with at least one more minifig on horseback even if it was a Dragon Knight. Having grown up with the older Lego castle sets in the 80s and 90s I always feel that Lego is cheaping out when they only include one horse in these larger castle sets. I ended up dropping this set down the stairs because I put to much pressure on the sides and the castle disintegrated in my hands. When you carry this set support the bottom without putting pressure on the sides. Just on a side note I stopped in at my local Toys R Us this morning to pick up a 2nd copy of this set only to find they were carrying one Kingdoms set 7948 Outpost attack with no evidence that the other Kingdoms sets would be restocked since there was no empty shelf space waiting for them. Maybe they just needed to free up shelf space for newer sets but I sure hope they end up getting more in eventually since this is a great set and I really want to build my own larger custom version of this one. TeufelHund Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Just built this yesterday and I have to say that while it looks very nice when finished, apart from the gatehouse, the build itself is very boring and repetitive. Even the back two towers are identical until their top levels. I also dislike the fact the King's throne is facing backwards out of a side tower. I prefer the central location of the throne in the King's Castle Siege with the king looking over his domain front on. Also the ramparts and front "towers" are very low - enemies could probably stand on each other's shoulders and get in! Finally the Dragon knights are really crying out for some kind of siege engine here, ala the one from the Oupost Attack set. It's an ok set, but I still prefer the one from the Castle line. Quote
eldiano Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 I went to a Lego Store yesterday to find pieces to expand the King's throne room but there wasn't that much variety on bricks. Has anyone attempted to expand their throne room with the Queen's throne from Advent Calendar? Can someone post pictures of their customization? Thanks! Quote

Has anyone attempted to expand their throne room with the Queen's throne from Advent Calendar? Can someone post pictures of their customization? Thanks! I am actually in the process of doing something along theses lines by combining both of the back towers into one large tower and having a place for both the king and queen. I have 2 of these sets already but I think I need at least one more to get the bricks I need to complete my MOC. I'm trying to be patient and wait for a sale on this set to get 1 pr 2 more of them.
