Klaus-Dieter Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 Hello everybody! With the much bigger possibilities of the Lego Universe mode for LDD, I designed a new, bigger and much better (at least imo) saloon some weeks ago. Here it is: Saloon Do you want to play cards and have a fresh drink? Or stay the night somewhere after a long ride? This set includes a Western saloon (first floor: saloon; second floor: guest room) with saloon keeper, maiden, cowboy, bandit, two horses and a lot of accessory. From the other side: The interior: Like in the modern official City buildings, the floors are removeable, too: Some more pics can be found in this folder (when public) of my BS gallery. Comments are welcome! Klaus-Dieter Quote
Commodore Hornbricker Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 That looks excellent. I really like the blue color. Has a real authentic wild west feel. Quote
Piratedave84 Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 Very Cool!!! I've always been a fan (not that I own many sets) of the western theme, this looks good. It has that classic western feel to it, all your missing is a tumbleweed or a cactus! Pirate Quote
not-in-use-anymore Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 (edited) Did it have to be that bright a blue?! I'd suggest a mix of dark, lime, and regular green for the cactuses and maybe a darker blue for the actual saloon. Other than that, it's a great MOC. (BTW, what are those 1x2 log peices sticking out for?) Edited May 14, 2010 by indianajones Quote
lightningtiger Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 Great LDD job there 'Klaus' - only missing the piano and player eh ? (don't shoot him, he's only the piano player ) Also there's no guy falling from the roof top after being shot ! Anyway great work and I'm a conformist! ! Quote
Captain Becker Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 I love it man, it really is a good place to sit down and have a drink, and there is some action too Absolutly great saloon, i might come to visit keep the doors open Captain Becker Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 I like it! Blue looks good, nice details all round as well. Though, it looks like the balcony fence is a bit unfinished. Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted May 15, 2010 Author Posted May 15, 2010 Thank you all very much for your nice comments - I really like to read that you like it! That looks excellent. I really like the blue color. Has a real authentic wild west feel. Thanks Commodore Hornbricker. I originally wanted to design it in yellow color. But since the post office (which I already designed and will show you in the next time, too) is already in yellow, I decided to use blue. (A planned merchant's house shall be getting green, a sheriff's office brown, a bank white-blue, a chapel white and a pony express red.) Very Cool!!!I've always been a fan (not that I own many sets) of the western theme, this looks good. It has that classic western feel to it, all your missing is a tumbleweed or a cactus! Pirate Thanks Pirate. There are indeed some cactus: the green "things" at the left and at the right of the saloon. Did it have to be that bright a blue?! I'd suggest a mix of dark, lime, and regular green for the cactuses and maybe a darker blue for the actual saloon. Other than that, it's a great MOC. (BTW, what are those 1x2 log peices sticking out for?) Thanks indianajones. These pieces are these which were used - like the wall pieces - in the WW theme of 1996, too. Great LDD job there 'Klaus' - only missing the piano and player eh ? (don't shoot him, he's only the piano player )Also there's no guy falling from the roof top after being shot ! Anyway great work and I'm a conformist! ! Thanks lightningtiger. I totally agree with you concerning the piano. But I wanted to design a saloon which should look like and be built like if it was an official set which would even go with the WW sets of 1996. And so a piano (with player) had regrettably no place. I love it man, it really is a good place to sit down and have a drink, and there is some action too Absolutly great saloon, i might come to visit keep the doors open Captain Becker Thanks Captain Becker. So I bet you'll like the post office with stage coach - which I'll show you in the next time - too. I like it! Blue looks good, nice details all round as well. Though, it looks like the balcony fence is a bit unfinished. Thanks Captain Blackmoor. I wanted to include as many details as possible and as sensible. For me the interior of buildings is always a big quality criteria for sets. How would you change the balcony? Klaus-Dieter Quote
not-in-use-anymore Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Thanks indianajones. These pieces are these which were used - like the wall pieces - in the WW theme of 1996, too. Klaus-Dieter No, I meant what were they supposed to be? Handles to help seperate the floors? Ways of connecting it to other buildings? Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Very nice KD. I think this is one of your better Western MOCs. The use of blue log bricks makes it most unique, and I think the color works well. The blend of blue and brown would not have been a color choice that I would have come up with, but they do look good together. As always, nice interior details. Love the bed! It's also nice to see a removable roof(s), something a bit different than the old Wild West theme. My only suggestion is to lift those cacti up a bit. They seem a little short. Aside from that, your LDD MOCs keep getting better and better. It's great to see the WW theme still alive. Quote

Sorry, indianajones. I was already wondering. These shall be balks to hold the roofs and floors (like in the WW theme of 96, too). Very nice KD. I think this is one of your better Western MOCs. I think on the bottom yes, but even on the top? Klaus-Dieter Quote

Klaus-Dieter Posted June 10, 2010 Author Posted June 10, 2010 On bottom, but some on top wouldn't look bad either. Thank you very much for this advise, TheBrickster! I will consider it when building my next WW MOC. Klaus-Dieter Quote
BrickClick Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Ooh another of your great western MOC's! If I end up spending my 2010 set money on Western LEGO on Ebay I'm blaming you Quote

The Western sets of 1996/97 are really there money worth - esp. when you get the opportunity to buy them used but in a nearly new condition. Klaus-Dieter Quote
ZO6 Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 I noticed this saloon while looking at your post office, and I must say that it's always a pleasure to see your creations, Klaus-Dieter. The saloon looks great from the outside, and has a lovely detailed interior. You've included all the must haves of a saloon, including the bar, table for drinking and playing cards at, and the room upstairs for a bit of extra fun. I'm only finally just getting around to collecting sets from the Western theme myself, and if your creations were official sets for sale I'd snap them up instantly. Hopefully if we ever get a new western theme it includes more civilian based sets like the ones you've created. Thanks for sharing! Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Excellent design 'KD'! I never knew a Saloon would look great in blue. Great overall design, and the log-styled bricks really gives the Saloon a Western-textured look. Great job! Quote

I really hope that TLG will release some new Western sets similar to Carbonhydrates', TheBrickster's, BrickMiner's or mine! Even with owning all of the Western sets from 1996/97 there is still that many missing - esp. even a saloon, a post office, a stage coach, a Western train with train station, a covered waggon, a farm, a secret hiding place for the bandits an Indian's treasue cave and a medicin man's tipi! Excellent design 'KD'! I never knew a Saloon would look great in blue. Great overall design, and the log-styled bricks really gives the Saloon a Western-textured look. Great job! Thanks KielDaMan. Legostein Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 Hello Klaus-Dieter! Your western town is growing, and that's great to see! Now your town has its own social centre where all the music, drinking and brawling can take place. The blue colour makes it easily locatable for every new kid in town. Cheers, ~ Chris Quote

Yes, a saloon was one of the really existential elements a Western town and Western theme has to include - but TLG regrettably missed it in 1996/97. So I really hope we'll see one in a new WW theme.
