Forresto Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 (edited) Power miners is probably one of my favorite lego themes ever and many people's also. Yes many compare it to th old Rock Raiders theme wich some will argue was better, yet many more will say it's incredibly better. This thread's purpose is not to argue either way as both themes are great in their own ways. However this thread is to try and show Lego, at least in the AFOL community, that we love power miners. Now with the lack of any news on new sets after this last janurary wave of only four sets, many are left to believe that this is the end. I am unfotunantly among them and as much as I hate to say it, Power Miners might be at the end of it's rope. There are'nt even any rumours going around of any new sets coming out which leads me to conclude that after many months of waiting, they are'nt coming. Now I may be barking up the wrong tree and any newer sets in production are under lock in key in some Lego warehouse. This would explain why there would'nt be any rumours or leaked pics. However I don't believe this to be true. My proposal, to qoute myself, "If they're going out let's go out with a bang!". Lego Power Miners is a great theme and if it's going it deserves a fond farewell rather then being shoved to the side in the dark. I think that like Pirates, they should get one last huge set and with PM can work out to be something amazing! They have many options of a huge set like a Rock Monster "nest", A huge/detailed PM base, a giant super rock monster with vehicle, a giant PM vehicle, ect..... The possibilites are endless. The set could also explain one of the themes many mysteries like the strange earthquakes. Now you might say that Power Miners is , unlike Pirates, just another of Lego's countless themes. Nothing really too special that it deserves to go out with a bang or get a huge farewell set. However PM is one of the one themes to really go up and beyond itself. Many Lego made themes like Pirates, Castle, Agents, Space Police, all have practiclly no plots and no ongoing developments. They really use the same plots over and over again, which like one of my favorite game franchises Mario Bros. is not a problem. There's nothing wrong with that but too be quite honest, story driven lego themes are hard to come by now a days. We used to have Alpha team and Johnny Thunder and others which really tried to engage you into the story and the sets would develop around that plot. Those made me really appreciate the sets more and to be honest got me to go out and buy more of the theme's sets. Power Miner's is the only theme to really do so today and it's improtant that Lego keeps up that tradition. We can't just let them sweep it under the rug and be done with it. PM also only has gotten practically two waves of sets plus a handful of special exclusive sets. Well I say no to that. I say that we get together and show Lego that we really care about this theme and that is should be honored with one last big set. Power Miners has had it's dark times and many people had doubts about it succeding when the preliminary photos were leaked oh so long ago. However PM surprised us all with it's great set desings, funny monsters, and more engaging plot. It has'nt rehashed sets and it certainly has'nt tried cutting back on us. It's a theme that has been here for not long enough and will prematurely end without answering any of the questions the theme brought up. We still have'nt seen what is the driving force behind the rock monsters and we have never heard what is causing the quakes. Let's please Lego give the design staff behind PM one last swing at the ball and give them a chance to hit a homerun. Watch this and then say you don't want to see more? For you Power miners, Rock Raiders, and Lego AFOLS please sign your signatures. Let PM get it's one last big chance to shine befor the Reaper has it's way. Edited May 7, 2010 by Forresto Quote

samurai-turtle Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 There's nothing wrong with that but too be quite honest, story driven LEGO themes are hard to come by now a days. I am going to disagree with you on that point. It seems like every action theme has some sort of back story to it. You must be thinking of the sets that come from the 80's or earlier, that do not have a back story. But I think it was mostly due to the fact that their was less ways to communicate with everyone. But hey, I will sign your petition. Quote
General Redwater Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 I really didn`t like Power Miners that much, but I`ll sighn. - General Redwater Quote
Lord Arjay Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 (edited) Hmm Power Miners never really blew me away with their sets. But I'm all for letting them have one last hurrah if it means we will get a nice set out of it (plus I loved that video ). Count me in! Lord Arjay hereby pledges his name in the petition for Power Miners final set! Edited May 7, 2010 by Lord Arjay Quote
BobaFett2 Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 I disagree. Power Miners is a decent theme, but there is a slew of other themes. LEGO doesn't send out themes with a bang most of the time. A few examples: BIONICLE went off with a sad little fizz Pirates dissapeared for a while after a few tiny sets were released Alpha Team went off with two sets and a catchy thing, but neither was particularly good. The larger one also wasn't very functional Bang: Adventurers went off with a bang, but the story could have easily continued to somewhere, say Australia or Antarctica Star Wars: A whole slew of special sets Quote
lightningtiger Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 Sign Yes as well - one last set - a big one.......but what ? Should we start suggesting ideas, etc., ? How about a 60cm or more high elevator that is being attacked by rock and lava monsters and the power miners must defend it with water cannons and TNT ? Good idea also for a contest eh ? I'm a conformist! ! Quote
sok117 Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 Signed, Power miners is really cool, though I don't collect it myself, I do think that if lego followed more of a story with there themes I'd be more inclined to buy them. Quote
Nightshroud99 Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 I signed yes. I don't really like Power Miners but I don't see why LEGO can't do one last big set, other people enjoy it so they should be able to get one! Quote
Front Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 If the community ever wants to persuade TLG to release a particular set, don't pick a theme that is on its way out, but pick a theme that's on its way in, like Atlantis. Quote
charlieboy Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 PW has been a fantastic theme,i have almost every set and love each one!Defo gets my vote! Quote
Cerlin Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 Signed. My first sets when I got back from my dark age were power miners, so that's a no brainer for me. More lime green!! Quote
Aanchir Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 Someone tried this with BIONICLE when its end was announced early this year. The concept was just as silly then. People need to understand a few things. First, online petitions don't accomplish all that much, especially when they're just on one fansite. Even if every Eurobricks member signed this petition, that's still not all the AFOLs in the world. And even if every AFOL signed, that's still only around 5% of LEGO's sales. Making a set just to satisfy a small proportion of Eurobricks members, then, can hardly be expected to turn a profit. Also, sets take time to design. LEGO's improved on this process considerably over the years, but it still takes several months to bring a set from the conceptual stage to the market. A new Power Miners set, then, would take until at least next year for release. And a 2011 Power Miners set would make no sense at all if the last sets were released a year earlier. Lastly, if LEGO could have extended the Power Miners franchise, they would have done so to begin with. After all, the fact that it exceeded expectations in 2009 is the reason there were any 2010 sets at all. But obviously, the biggest of the sets weren't nearly as successful as the mid-size and small ones, because LEGO diverted the budget for such sets to the newer and fresher ATLANTIS theme. I agree that 2010 Power Miners is a disappointment compared to the 2009 selection (and yes, I love the sets from both years, as well as the Power Miners concept in general). But this topic is a dreadfully late attempt at what was an unfeasible goal to begin with. Just do your best to enjoy what we got, and let creative building fill any perceived gaps in the existing line. Quote
dr_spock Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 My son collects Power Miners. Another big set would be another big bite in my wallet. Quote
squidman85 Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 (edited) Signed.I thought about this idea too and about one from the lava theme(Small outpost with lab and crane and lime grinders surrounded by lava rocks. There are also a big lava monster, that can transform into the volcano. There are Combustix and 2 new monsters called Burstor(or Explodor)coloured purple and pink one called Flamarax(or Burnox). Those monsters are the same, like other lava monsters, but their head is black and the arms are trans colors. There are also some purple, pink and yellow crystals. There are 2 miners:one with armor and helmet, other one with atlantis helmet, but with crome visor. There is also a big lava vehicle with big metalic-silver PM wheels and metalic silver treads(like in Magma Mech). There is chrome PM drill and a water "dome".There also small laboratory with accessories, laptops and with small jail for Combustix. It reminds command base from 2004 Alpha Team. There is also could be a gasyer, that could be a path to the next underground area with water and maybe ice). Dwarfinator Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Amen brotha, amen! I signed. I say we have a huuuge Magma cavern with lava slides and little pools for the Magma Monsters. Or maybe just stick with the giant nest... Quote
Capt.JohnPaul Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 Oh yes I definitely sign, I don't want to see the cute little rock monsters go away! -the Admiral Quote
The Eye Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 Signed. My only PM set was the Titanium Rig, which I loved. Quote
MrTools Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 Signed, I just hope if it does happen it wont be like lavatraz... Quote
The Nightwing Reborn Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 I'm all for power miners getting a "last hurrah" set, but I find it very unlikely. I think if Bionicle went out with the smallest of bangs after being around since 2001, the chances of pm getting a huge bang are low. However, I would love to be wrong so I'll sign. Quote
