jonwil Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 Really? Hmm... I wonder if this applies to Australia. Of course, that's if they come out here at all. I'm becoming rather sceptical whether particular sets are coming out or not.Nice review. I'm glad the magician comes with hair as originally planned. I don't know if I will get a whole box, because I only want multiples of a select few. I can say that they ARE comming out in Australia, people at various Toyworlds have confirmed it. Quote
I Scream Clone Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 An amazing and comprehensive review from a great teacher I always planned on getting at least one full set, though a box is looking more likely now. As Shadows mentioned earlier, Bad Fangy! Fangy, hang on to the Forestman and Cowboy for me ISC starts to dream of a Star Wars Minifig collection. Quote
Dan the Brickman Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 Thanks for the review, cant wait for these to come out in the US! Quote
dkrbarca Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 Great review. I was wondering if you will be able to buy whole boxes only in lego stores or online in the US. Fortunately I have a store nearby. Quote
Santhor Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 (edited) Same here! Same same here! My favorites are the spaceman, forestman, skater, and cowboy. Great review, and WOW that's a lot of bags. -Santhor Edited May 8, 2010 by Santhor Quote
_dargor_ Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 Great Review!!!! I went to my local toy shop in Burgos and found a recently open box (It was open but full behind the cashier desk, and the people working on the store didnt know what it contains). 2,25 €/unit. I have bought 35 bags from the same box and although I can't assure that the contains of the box were altered (As I have said the people in the shop didn't know anything about whats inside the boxes), here are the figs I got: 2 Skaters 2 Ninjas 2 Nurses. 3 Cavemen. 3 Spacemen. 1 Diver 6 Forrestmen 5 Cowboys 1 Dummy 4 magicians 3 Indians 2 Clowns 2 CheerLeaders. I couldn't complete the collection . So judging from this maybe the quantity of every figure it's not the same in every box, but take in account that the box has not been open by me so I can assure that the bags had not been chaged for ones from other box. Quote
FinalFeature Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 I am wondering as well how much a whole box or how much each individual bag will be here in the US. Also will these be available in stores such as TRU, or only on Lego.com? A whole box costs $120. Each individual bag costs $2. The series will be available at Lego stores, not certain if other stores will have them. LegoGalactus Quote
tiggerkiddo Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 Nice review, thanks! As of right now, I like 10 out of this first set so it's going to be tough trying to get them all, haha. It still stinks that this won't be out in the US until June but oh well, just one more month! Quote
starstreak Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 Great review! Need clearer pictures! Lol. Just kidding. :) I want the Spaceman, Cheerleader, Dummy, and Ninja Quote
Zorbas Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 One word: Respect! You've done an amazing work here WhiteFang! The data and the statistics you've provided are excellent and I must say that this is one of the best reviews in here! The photo with all the bags in the box is to drool for! Thanks! Quote
Dunjohn Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 It's a bit of a bummer if the boxes aren't randomized. It's easy enough to arrange for full sets in boxes like this and still avoid having a concrete selection. I got ten in my local Argos yesterday, and they had a stock listing of sixty, so they must've only got one box. I got three Indians. At least this means I won't get any more Indians. Quote
WhiteFang Posted May 9, 2010 Author Posted May 9, 2010 Wow, thanks everyone whom have taken their time to drop your thoughts inside this review. I must really apologise for some of my poor quality photos as this review was done mostly in the late night and I didn't have natural light and time to do it during the day due to work commintment, but I hope I can at least improve some of the images later this week, to provide a much better viewing experience. Judging from the poll, I noticed there are a group of people whom do not agreed to my analysis. I can understand that, I was basing on the fact on the probablity, if each box is not being meddle with, equal distribution stats by grabbing it randomly in a box. It helps to give you a better gauge on what to expect, so I must emphasis that its not detailed as what you might want to expect. Next, this minifig series 1 is indeed one of the most enjoyable review which I have done in a long while, so I am glad that you guys reading this review. It's a shame that the least desirable figs are the ones that are most common - perhaps because they don't have any new pieces and are more straightforward than the others. It's unfortunate, but I am kind of expected it. Oh well, at least we get a better distribution on the rest of the minifigs selection. But, after read the comprehensive review, is that confirm ? there will be 3x16 complete, and random for the rest (12) for each box ? Based on my single opening purchase of this box, it's confirmed on my case. However, I will assume, at least it should have 2 complete minifigs collection in 1 box, unless someone has randomised the whole box on its own. I already wanted a set before this, now I want a box. Bad Fangy! Bad! You must get it once they reached in US. One question though, why is there a spacemen in your extras which no legs? You are very observant indeed. Actually, it was not intentional but because one of my packets does not contain the leg piece. In fact, it was missing from the packet itself. I didn't want to highlight this inside the review as it might ruin the impression, so I just left that portion out of my review. Now, I used a plain white leg to replace it, otherwise I just torn the remaining figure apart, for parts usage. What I have written in the spoiler is true. A couple of members of lowlug.nl (including me) have ordered complete boxes and all have reported what I have 'spoilered'. Oh, I wanted to find your mentioned source but I couldn't find where. So, I assumed it's confirmed too. Like, the first bag in the left row would always be Ninja for example. It never came across my mind before, but it might be just possible. Anyway, thanks for the great review WhiteFang! Just a side comment though... I do feel a slight tinge of sexism here... you have the 'responsible diver', the 'brave forestman', the 'adventurous spaceman', the list goes on, but the 'beautiful nurse' and the 'sexy cheerleader'? Are those the only qualities you can find for women?! Shhh. These are some of the immediate exact wordings that came into my head when I am writing this. Has any news on Series 2 surfaced yet? Not that I know of, but I believed it will be in a few months time. It seems the original message that for 8683, each type of minifigs would have roughly the same chance to appear is actually inaccurate, if not a lie. I believed so, and I am really glad it was not totally "random" otherwise it will be so much harder for us to get a box wit the right distribution curve. What's so cool about having 5 divers or dummies or a lot of other figures you don't really need? I am still cracking my head on my dummies and divers. I don't know what to do with it, but the thing is, at least you know that the rest of the minifigures are still great selections with average quantities. Oh well, getting the box first is a much easier start and at the later stages, I am buying them packets by packets, hoping to get the minifigures that I want to amass. I appreciate what you're trying to say here, WhiteFang, but I think it's a hopeless cause. The scalpers and hoarders are going to scoop these things up like crazy. .............. Thanks Joebot. It does not help, but I feel I should highlight this point. This is the way it is. As long there is demand, there will always be a constant search of supply and given the limited time frame and the amount of specialised wanted minifigs given in the market, these will be some determinants which could influence or change the tide of buyers and sellers relationship in terms of pricing etc. Fangy, hang on to the Forestman and Cowboy for me If you really want it, come and get it. Great review! Need clearer pictures! Lol. Just kidding. :) Yes yes, I am fully aware of it. I will do something about it. Quote
dkrbarca Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Whitefang when will these be available in the US. Also will anyone be able to buy full boxes? Quote
WhiteFang Posted May 9, 2010 Author Posted May 9, 2010 Whitefang when will these be available in the US. Unfortunately, I could not advice on the US availability. Maybe someone could help to advice? Also will anyone be able to buy full boxes? I bought mine as a box. I supposed retail stores which carry this, do sell this in boxes or cases, depending on the buying power. Quote
Piranha Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Great stuff WhiteFang  Was this in the academy forum and I missed the sneak peek there?? I am not surprised that the most common figs would be the ninja, test track dummy and diver would be the most common But your data analysis was quite nice Sure would be helpful if these were actually random, but I will probably use the bar codes to get the few I like from this series and the next. Btw I think the US Release date is August 1st? But I am not sure. Quote
Darth Hawken Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Great review WhiteFang. I think this is almost the greatest review of all time but if anyone doesn't want to buy the whole box couldn't you just feel. I mean they are all different shape and whould feel different so look at an image and see if the minifigure inside the bag feels like the shape. Just guessing. But seriously I am going to buy these but sadly not till June Quote
Joebot Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Has any news on Series 2 surfaced yet? Xilefsson posted preliminary pictures here of Series 2 a while back. Again, these are only preliminaries, and not the final mini-figs. Quote
tiggerkiddo Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Whitefang when will these be available in the US. Also will anyone be able to buy full boxes? June supposedly, maybe late May. I'll have to check my local Lego store later this month to see. Quote
Delta 38 Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 (edited) I can say that they ARE comming out in Australia, people at various Toyworlds have confirmed it. Toyworld? That's a bit unfortunate, as I don't think I've been there before, if at all. I'll need a good way to get a complete set in one purchase, because it's not too accessible for me. I hope they come out in other stores, in case I miss a few... (Edited, wrong store, whoops!) Edited May 11, 2010 by Delta 38 Quote
ILikePi Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 (edited) Thanks for the mega review WhiteFang! It's stunning to see 60 of these minifigs side by side. I don't have the money to splash the cash on a box, but I'll still be getting one of each minifig once they come out in the US next month using a combinations of barcodes and feeling through the bag (first I'll try to guess what minifig is in the bag, then I'll check if I'm right using the barcodes; after I buy them, I'll do the same thing again at home!). Hopefully, if a box ever becomes empty, the employees at the store will allow me to take it. If not, I'll just have to satisfy myself by just taking pictures of the box. Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted May 9, 2010 Eurobricks Emperor Posted May 9, 2010 I believe this is the only review I've seen covering the complete first series of minifigures. It's a nice closing piece for several annoucements and individual reviews related with this fantastic minifigure series 1. The clown, forestman and magician are must haves for me. And knowing the 2nd series has the wonderful Mexican and Greeks soldier I'm looking forward for even more for series 3. Quote

omega_jetfire Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 I got the latest event calander from my local Lego Store here in Ohio(for US members and fans) and it shows that the figures will be released June 21st. Also I asked an employee and the will sell full cases to customers but are unsure of how much. He thought maybe a li'l over a $100. So I hope this answers any questions. Also my 1st post. Quote
