legofan Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 Hello guys! With some time and no money on hand, i decided to try my hand on some modular house building. For years, my minifigs have been sleeping on the streets, and the recent Creator houses that i have are just not sufficient for me to house them all... With that in mind, i tried my apartment building. Initially i wanted wide and high, but discovered my spare bricks were not really enough so i think a high building is what i would really want.. WARNING! This is my preliminary design and it would really look like child's play compared to the many other MOCs showcased here... However, it would greatly encourage me with your comments for me to improve further as i always live by the principle: " Critism encourages improvements' so... Very Thick-skinly, i present to you: Front View Wierd colours right? The result of not having enough bricks of one colour... It kinda looks aweful to me... Isometric view from the side. *Excuse the back-drop* Apartment open for viewing! The roof, 7th and 6th storey. The 5th and 4th storey. *Yap, that's Indy there finally settling down and looking for a place to stay* The 3rd and 2nd storey. The 'inverted doors' there serve as an emergency fire escape doors that we see in buildings. (Actually it was just an excuse for having not enough bricks) The first storey. With doorbell I think i mentioned modular? All the stories including the roof, except for the 1st (because of the door) are interchange-able and connectable in anyway. Like this. You can make a single storey office with roof... (shown here with my MOD red pickup previously shared) Or a single storey Shop front... Two storey bungalow anyone? How about a 3 storey shophouse? A four storey office? A five storey apartment? How about 6?? Sorry~ Getting too fun re-configuring the building, but i guess you get the drift.. And finally a rear view. What do you think of it guys and girls? Please assist in providing me with some valuable input as this is my first hand try at modular house building... Think i got to get more bricks to start matching the colours... Now it looks like am artist house... Also, need to start constructing some furniture for decor and filling in the apartment, as it looks really bear on the inside right now... C & C most welcomed and thanks for viewing! Cheers! Quote
RoryoCox Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 It looks good. A bit to multi-coloured for me. Still it is a great job. Are you planning to add furniture? Well Done Quote

legofan Posted May 5, 2010 Author Posted May 5, 2010 Don't be to hard on yourself. Part of the fun of Lego is just building and watching overtime how your creations get better and better. In all honesty I think that the building looks much better when you've seperated it floor by floor to just make a bunch of simple houses, when combined the multi colouredness really sticks out. A bit of furniture wouldn't hurt either. Overal looks like an excellent hang out for your minifigs, heck a few of mine would probably want to move in as well Thank you Mack for the kind words! It really perk me up! Yap, i do agree the multi-colour is rather getting to me... I should build it up into two-storey shophouses and houses instead. And yap, i'm looking at adding more furniture to it, propbably convert one into a shop along the way... Thanks guys for your kind encouragements~~ Quote
ImLost Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 This is a good first attempt, legofan! Personally, I think the building is too narrow to be this tall. A shorter and wider one will look more realistic. Also, the building is too flat- try adding some details that stick out, such as window sills and awnings. Quote
Princess Storm Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 Hee hee, it looks funny and cute . My creations always end up stripey too, due to lack of parts in any one colour (mine are different shades of grey and tan though, as they're castles). I think you could easily install a simple lift with a pulley system round the back or on one side and as others have said, some similarly un-coordinated furniture would look cool Quote
