Daniel Williams Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 Here's my first attempt at a Sherman And after dozens or so tweeks later... One thing bugs me though, something doesn't seem right with the wheels in color, so I figure I'll get those parts in black to make it better. So what to do you think? Please be honest, I don't care if it's not nice, just be honest, it sucks doesn't it? or maybe I finally did it, right? Anyway comments and suggestions welcomed? PS I wish I showed the evolution, but I didn't have a camera to work with between then and the current prototype since my old camera broke and the new one was being used by my brother. Quote
lightningtiger Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 Your second attempt is much better than the first. I'm a conformist! 'Daniel Williams' I'm a conformist! ! Quote
General Redwater Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 Very nice first and second sherman. It seems to really have improved. I'm a conformist! - General Redwater Quote
Fires-storm Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 Wow, a very nice evolution to be sure! the first one looked fairly good, but the 21st evolve looks outstanding! one question though, what did you use for the gears on those treads? I can't quite identify the piece All in all, I really love this Quote
Ralph_S Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 Definitely a big improvement. Version 21 is a nice rendition of a Sherman, although there is some room for improvement. It could do with a few more details. The commander's machine gun for instance. The jumper pate you've got sitting on the turret suggests that this is something you plan to add later. I'd like it better if it were one colour rather than a somewhat random mix. I also think you might want to fiddle around with the suspension. Many modern tanks have torsion bar suspension, whereas the Sherman had vertical volute spring suspension. It looks really different -in part because adjacent pairs of wheels are interconnected. It might be worthwhile to tinker with that a bit more and to perhaps look on flickr or brickshelf to see what other builders have done. The Sherman is a famous tank and there already are quite a few LEGO versions out there. All in all, nice tank. Kudos to you for sticking with it. If I'd have to keep rebuilding a MOC for two weeks in a row I'd have thrown it into a corner after a few days. Cheers, Ralph Quote
Minifig Lecturer Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 Possible to see more pics, ground view (minifig view) and birds eye and sides? Certainly it is a major improvement and I think it looks good. I'd agree about requiring a machine gun as that is often considered as important as the main gun. Also you need some anti aircraft equipment or your tank wont last long against a chopper. Quote
Commodore Hornbricker Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 Turned out very nice and provides an excellent example of what happens when you stick with a MOC through many drafts. Quote
