legitimatealex Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 As the topic title suggests, do you believe that LEGO will create and release more Prince of Persia sets, either for this movie or a possible sequel? I know that this is a bit early to ask since the movie hasn't even premiered yet, but what do you think the possibilities are? I'm sure that there are more scenes from the movie that could be recreated by LEGO. Quote
prateek Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 I hope so. I'm pretty sure there are many more doable sets, and missing minifigs, like Tamina in the movie poster outfit and the whip Hassassin. Quote
The Crazy One Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 I doubt it. Unless there is a sequel, I don't think we will see much more of them. I wish we would though. Quote
CMP Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 It'd be awesome, but like Crazy said, unless there is a sequel, it is unlikely. Quote
EspEth12 Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 they could make ALOT more sets off of the the sands of time video game series. There are 3 games in all and the newest one comes out around the same time the movie does. And I'm also sure they could make more movie based ones. P.S. has anyone seen the t.v spot in North America yet I wanna see what it's like. It'd be awesome, but like Crazy said, unless there is a sequel, it is unlikely. Well they'll likey end up making a sequel on the second game in the sands of times series (can't remeber it's name) I hope they'll make sets on that if they do make a sequel. Quote

Pellaeon Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 (edited) I assume if there were any more sets planned for 2010, we'd have heard about them by now. But I do think that if the movie is successful and the current sets sell well, we could see more sets in January 2011, maybe to tie in with the DVD release. I doubt it. Unless there is a sequel, I don't think we will see much more of them. I wish we would though. Past January 2011, I agree the only way we'll see more sets is if there's a sequel. That would mean a 2-3 year gap in the series, like with the Harry Potter sets. I do hope we see more; the 5 sets we have are pretty spectacular and chock-full of new parts. EDIT: Hey, got my citizenship! Edited April 19, 2010 by Pellaeon Quote
Cardinal Brick Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 I hope Pellaeon is right and we do get a wave to tie in with the DVD release, it would make sence though if Lego havn't designed them now the turn around to get them designed and produced and into stores is going to be really tight. Quote
jamtf Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 I seriously doubt it. Either, they will make new Indiana Jones sets when/if they decide to make a new movie or they will introduce their own adventurer's line again. Also, there seems to be a Lego Adventurers movie on DVD this spring. See the side of each new 2010 set where this is announced. Could it be easier to create a new line of products alongside their own DVD... Quote
Shadows Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Disney has already hinted that they want this to be the new PotC, which means sequels. The problem with the license, however, is that Disney is notorious for switching to other companies right in the middle of something. While no one cares, Dora the Explorer is a good example, first LEGO and now Mega Brands. That said, if the license holds, it could be really interesting to see what direction it takes. They've taken elements of all of the games to make this movie, so it would basically be uncharted territory for the future. What do you think they might do? Instead of just talking about it here, why not build it? For those who haven't noticed, we've not only suggested this but encouraged it by securing a very nice prize pool to reward winning efforts. Go to the Prince of Persia Month Building Contest and bring your ideas to life! Stop staring at the screen. GO! Quote
David Thomsen Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Whether or not there are more PoP sets is a large contributing factor to whether or not I will buy them. I like ranges that grow over time, unfortunately the only two that have really lasted have been City and Star Wars, and I'm not interested in Star Wars. I was hoping that Indiana Jones and Pirates would go on for longer, but they seem to have died, at least for now. If they make more than five PoP sets for this movie, and the movie itself is good, and they plan to make sequels, then I will be greatly interested in collecting the range. Quote
Joebot Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 I really wonder how the success of the movie factors into TLC's decisions when it comes to planning the product line. For example, the "Speed Racer" movie bombed, and TLC only made one wave of sets. Was that decision to keep the line limited to only a single wave based on the failure of the movie? If the "Speed Racer" movie had been wildly successful, would they have released more sets?? Given the long lead time to design and manufacture a Lego set (two years by some accounts), are TLC executives really analyzing the opening weekend movie grosses on Monday morning, then making a go / no go decision on the second wave? That seems kinda unlikely. Quote
Omicron Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Considering the movie is based on the game of the same name which also spawned sequels, pretty sure they are making a movie project out of this and make the sequels. However that can mainly be based on the commercial success of the movie which I do not doubt at all. -Omi Quote
Euvor Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Somewhere (I don't remember where ) it was said that Indiana Jones would only be paused for this year because it and PoP are quite similar. If that is the case, I don't think there will be more sets unless the movie is overly succesfull. Quote

FilmGirl27 Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 I wouldn't say so. I can't see Prince of Persia doing as good as Pirates of the Carribean. It seems like one of those films that have a while at the top of the Box Office, then die down and vanish. Poof. Gone. I really doubt LEGO intend to keep it longer than the first wave, unless it becomes really successful. Quote
ziljin Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 Well I bought 1 Battle of Alamut and Quest Against Time, and 2 copies of Desert Attack, Ostrich Race and Fight for the Dagger. Here's hoping the prince of persia set sales will encourage Lego to make more middle eastern themed sets. Whether they be licensed or unlicensed. Quote
David Thomsen Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 Thing is though there are no new Indiana Jones movies. And the other 4 movies are a thing of the past now. Ah... so you haven't heard about 'Untitled Indiana Jones Film Due in 2012'... Quote
Omicron Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 Ah... so you haven't heard about 'Untitled Indiana Jones Film Due in 2012'... Unless there is official word that there will be a movie, and not something that is "in the works" or "possible chance of", then it is difficult to take any info like that seriously because it is tentative and not set in stone. -Omi Quote
sok117 Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 Ah... so you haven't heard about 'Untitled Indiana Jones Film Due in 2012'... Hello, mayan calender? But In all seriousness, besides the parts and figs, for me the theme was sort of a let down. Quote
legitimatealex Posted April 25, 2010 Author Posted April 25, 2010 But In all seriousness, besides the parts and figs, for me the theme was sort of a let down. I can say that I have never been more let down by a theme more than this one in terms of the number of sets. I was kind of crushed when the pirates line only lasted another year but they lacked the inventiveness that PoP has. I think it is a possibility that more sets will reveal themselves around the time of the DVD release, or possibly even before hand to scare up some excitement for the DVD release. Who knows though, maybe LEGO just has some sets under wraps? Quote
Jack Bricker Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 I recently got one of the books for the movie and there are a lot of scenes in the movie that Lego doesn't even touch up on with the sets. I think they may just be waiting to see how the movie does and how well the line sells and then we might see more PoP sets next year. I hope, I hope, I hope. Quote
Dunjohn Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 (edited) It always bugged me majorly that the Speed Racer line of sets did absolutely nothing to represent the combat racing which was a huge part of the movie. There was the truck set but I'm talking about the cross-country race. So there's already a precedent for Lego to omit elements of a licence to make their own sets feel more consistent. Since Speed Racer only had a single wave of sets, as a stand-alone movie/set release, I'm expecting Princ of Persia to follow suit. Edited April 26, 2010 by Dunjohn Quote
ziljin Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 Well I was impressed with The Fight for the Dagger and Battle of Alamut because of the Middle Eastern architecture. Quest Against Time has a nice dungeon filled with traps. Ostrich Race and Desert Attack aren't that great but have nice minifigs and animals. Quote

I don't believe that speed racer was that big of a movie and I also don't think that that particular Lego line sold all that well. Whereas the PoP line is selling very well where I am at. I was just there and they went through their entire first or second shipment already so the sets are selling well. Also I think the movie could do quite well. After reading one of the books for the movie I think they just might have something there. Edited April 27, 2010 by Jack Bricker Quote
