lightningtiger Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 (edited) Here is a start of a totally new MOC for me, I have wanted to start a modular building so I have started with the shop fittings first. (W.I.P.) You can see a cash register which is based on the one in the GE, those brown drawers behind the counter is for screws, washers, hinges, plumbing bits, too. Ironmongers was the name given to hardware stores - so anything made from iron is sold by an ironmonger. Even these days some of these old shops are around..... Next I'll start on the front door and windows, then the walls, etc.,. Comments welcome & I'm a conformist! ! Edited April 17, 2010 by TheBrickster Quote
anna Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 This creation is packed with details! Well done, I like it. Quote
greg3 Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 Looks good so far... (it reminds me of the "Four Candles" TV sketch by the Two Ronnies! If you don't know what I'm talking about check it out here ) Can't wait to see the rest of the shop Quote
BlueBard Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 (edited) Looks really promising, lightningtiger! Edited April 17, 2010 by BlueBard Quote

Lord Arjay Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 Well this is a change for you lightningtiger. It's looking good so far. Quote
lightningtiger Posted April 17, 2010 Author Posted April 17, 2010 Thank you 'anna', 'greg3', 'BlueBard', 'benny', and 'Lord Arjay' for your very kind comments. Yes, this is different for me, I'm normally building in the classic open back style, but for over a year I have been wanting to build something to join onto my Greengrocer. I have decided the late 19th century is what I'll base the frontage of the build on, a little like this........ (USA style) (UK style) (a real 19th century one) (UK corner style) (closer view - another real 19th century one) Now my problem is which one to base it on, UK or USA style, corner style or not, any sugguestions ? Comments welcome and I'm a conformist! ! Quote
Redcross Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 From your reference pictures it seems clutter is the common thread, enjoy making all those details. On the question of nationality I guess it should based on the intended style of future modular buildings and whether it is an old building in a modern town, or head down the 1930's period with vehicles of that era. Quote
lightningtiger Posted April 18, 2010 Author Posted April 18, 2010 (edited) Thanks for the reply 'Redcross' - all the modular buildings from Lego have inspirations from both sides of Atlantic - so this might be a mix of the same ideas. I have started working on the frontage of the store and I will say this it's not as easy as doing classic style. It's like the difference between standard def tv and high def tv - there is a great difference ! Need to get more beige and black bricks/plates/etc., oh yeah various lengths of brown x1 tiles/plates too, posting fresh pictures a.s.a.p., so I'm a conformist! everyone ! lightningtiger Posted April 18, 2010 Author Posted April 18, 2010 (edited) I'm back again - thought I'd throw this picture up - it's the trim work to the frontage. This took me 2 hours to get right, now I need more grill bricks, etc.,. Comments are always welcome. I'm a conformist! ! Edited April 18, 2010 by lightningtiger Quote
lightningtiger Posted April 19, 2010 Author Posted April 19, 2010 (edited) The first storey is starting to come together, I will do some more pavement and the window dressing tomorrow. Comments welcome and I'm a conformist! ! Edited April 19, 2010 by lightningtiger Quote
Lord Arjay Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Looking good so far lightningtiger. Keep going! Quote
lightningtiger Posted April 19, 2010 Author Posted April 19, 2010 Well I not going to stop, but it is going to take more time, piece by piece I'll get there. I have already done some LDD work to see how some the building will look. Thanks for the reply and the cheering on 'Lord Arjay' and I'm a conformist! ! Quote
MetroiD Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Looking forward to seeing your progress on this project, lt :) Have fun! Quote
Lord Arjay Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Thanks for the reply and the cheering on 'Lord Arjay' and I'm a conformist! ! Darn. I wish I had that cheerleader minifig now. Quote
lightningtiger Posted April 19, 2010 Author Posted April 19, 2010 Thanks 'MetroiD' and again 'Lord Arjay' for your kind (fun) words ! This is my hardest challenge yet, must also get lots of 1x whatevers in brown tile - yep, it's going to have timber floors both floors. More pictures later today (SA time)........I'm a conformist! ! lightningtiger Posted April 21, 2010 Author Posted April 21, 2010 (edited) I've been busy again ! The back of the store and roof sections are next plus to finish off the flooring, I have changed my mind for the moment to make this only a single storey building, but it can be added to later on. Comments welcome and I'm a conformist! - more to come ! Edited April 21, 2010 by lightningtiger Quote
Skulls_Eye_Schooner_Sailor Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Very unique thing to build and I look forward to its completion! Quote
Lord Arjay Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Thanks 'MetroiD' and again 'Lord Arjay' for your kind (fun) words ! Fun words? You must be talking about MeroiD there then. Anyway back on topic your store is coming along nicely. I really like your interior. Very cramped and packed with stuff all over the place as it should be. One thing though, for the big bit of tan above the door are you going to add a bit of signage there? Anyway so far so good can't wait to see it finished. Well Done! Quote
lightningtiger Posted April 21, 2010 Author Posted April 21, 2010 Oh, no it's what you said 'Lord Arjay'...........quote ' Darn. I wish I had that cheerleader minifig now. ' unquote Anyway thanks to you and 'Skulls_Eye_Schooner_Sailor' for your kind comments , and I'll be back to doing the flooring late tomorrow morning(S.A. time). I'm a conformist! ! Quote
slacker int Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Good stuff Lt! This is coming along nice The first floor is excellent and packed with many nice details. It has a very realistic feel. One thing though, for the big bit of tan above the door are you going to add a bit of signage there?I was also wondering this. Perhaps some windows or detailed brick (like the things we see on the modular building line) work would enhance this section. Maybe even a lamp post out front too.Looking forward to seeing the finished product! Quote
lightningtiger Posted April 21, 2010 Author Posted April 21, 2010 Thanks for the kind words 'slacker int' - to answer the question about that big beige bit - it will be stickered saying words like 'Hardware', 'Tinware', 'Paint', 'Plumbing Fixtures', words found back 80 to 90 years ago on similar buildings either in the US, UK or even Australia. I'm a conformist! everyone ! Quote
wooootles Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 (edited) It's packed with details! One note though, it was hard for me to go back to 'classic' style once I got into modular style, so be warned! it's addictive. I had to get something like this for modular style (among many others) :skull: Edited April 21, 2010 by wooootles Quote

Anyway great MOC LT you just get better and better Can't wait to see the finished product! Only one suggestion and you can ignore me if you wan't to because it's just my opinion but, won't it look kind of strange beside green grocer if it's only one storey high I suggest that you add at least one more storey. awesomebrick Quote

Not really, if you look at any street then you'll see height differences. Heres a picture I found on google. (Word is link) Quote
