Zyfot Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 (edited) Great review. I also just finished building the set with a few modifications. I removed the ff missile launcher and started an interiors. I added two 4x1 bricks with studs on the side to create a floor for when the ship is in upright flight. With missile launcher removed I use a hinged plate to create a hatch on the bottom (Now I need to make a custom escape pod to use with it). I added some printed tiles on walls and hatch. I will try to get some pics tomorrow. I also looked throught the instruction booklet twice, and cannot believed I missed where the skull sticker goes... So if anyone knows where it is supposed to got could the tell me which booklet and page number to see where it is supposed to go. Edited August 16, 2010 by Zyfot Quote
Dr.Butcher Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 The sticker is placed on the left side of the windscreen. You can see it on page 57 of the second booklet. Quote
wesker Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 The only downturn I found for me, is, that the upper beam of the wings is not connected on the ship's side. This could be improved. Perhaps I'll do some modding there. This was solved better in 6209. There the coloring was more accurate, too. If I make the mod according to the example of 6209, then the wings would get more sturdy, too. Currently, they are a bit wobbly. I think Anio's MOC captured the wings perfectly. The appearance of the beams is much more movie accurate and I like the way the wings and cockpit can rotate without the beams swinging down with them. If Lego ever revist this again they should take a long hard look at this MOC: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=44221&st=0 Quote

And the attachment of the wings is pretty perfect. Quote
Solscud007 Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Thanks the slave 1 and the new ATAT got me back into SW legos. I really like the new mini fig. the coloring looks better imho. I never liked the original bob fett due to the fact that the helmet was not separate from the pack. I did pick up a key chain fett just to have and compare to the two mini figs. I like the use of the clone trooper eye piece. Plus the cape is a nice touch. i thought I have seen some custom boba fett blasters that look more accurate. Who makes them? brick arms? Quote

I love Boba Fett, and seeing a new Slave I rekindled my passion for lego. Bossk was an added bonus, "You've just been Bossked!" Some people seem to be complaining that this is too similar to the last Slave I set, but for those of us who don't have it lego 8097 is a godsend. Quote
miles teg Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Sorry to revive this thread, but I've recently received this set from eBay. My Son and I built it last night and we both love it ! What a great rendition of a classic OT ship. Some nice parts, a build that didn't get boring ( for the 500 odd parts that it was) and it is a lot bigger than we expected. It has been given pride of place on my display shelf ! I understand a lot of people don't like the color scheme, and maybe sand Brown instead of dark red would have softened it, but I think it looks very nice...just consider it a 'new' paint job. All in all, it was well worth the £35 that I spent on it ! I'm tempted to do a review with some pics when I have time? Now we just need to build the 7965 Falcon that we bought at the same time!! Retro Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 I think this is a fine looking model, with very nice figures. I have no problem with the colours. All the opening niches and boxes are nifty. The only drawback is the lack of playability. There is no interior, the ramp goes nowhere, the cockpit is minimalistic and the innards are full of useless missiles. I wish at least that the window was on a hinge with a properly appointed cockpit. Quote

I do think that I'm going to try to mod up a better cockpit with my limited spare parts, and it would be nice to remove the dumb missile rack and kit out a crew space instead. The canopy doesn't bother me as it'll be displayed rather than played. Quote
