Isn't why they re-released Slave I because it was the anniversary of Empire Strikes Back? At least that's what I thought, which is why I thought that Slave I would look more like this:

esb2_mq_340.jpg

(A screencap from the movie.)

Here it has the sand green with brown color scheme, and I personally think it suits it better. It looks more dirty, battleworn, etc. Fitting for a bounty hunter is the main point. The new Slave I looks far to "clean and shiny" in my opinion.

Yay, I'm right! :classic:

It does sort of seem like a waste, but it's nice to have extra stuff. Especially two extra clone commander pistols!

Yeah but its strange that they put CW stuff into a OT set.

Run for your lives CW is taking over Lego Star Wars!

Uhh guys, I think the reason it's so shiny and clean is because it s a brand new lego set. If you really want to give it a "rugged" feel just give it to your son to go play with in a sandbox, that'll scruff it up a bit. , I don't think we need to be so picky about the set, It's an awesome ship, It's an awesome bounty hunter, It's an awesome movie, It's an awesome Saga, all in all, It's just pretty awesome.

Can we get a picture of the completed back, one with the flick-fire system in place?

Exactly, everything about it is awesome, it had so much potential, but it all went to waste, in my opinion. The build is the exact same, just a few new pieces here and there, nothing really different from the 2006 one. And that's where I'm so disappointed. Sure, the figs are nice, but all they did was take the 2006 one, change a bit of detail and bump up the price by 30 USD. I expected more from this Lego Slave I. It's still a good set if you missed the 2006 version, but the price is a big turn off. :sceptic:

I'm a little nin-plussed by this set. The preview pictures looked really similar to the 2006 one, and this review just confirms it. It has to die for minifigs, but other than that, it's just frustrating to buy a ship that's changed so little.

At least people who missed the last one have a second chance.

The problem with all the Slave Is since 2002 is the following piece, which I think was originally struck just for Jango's Slave It:

41766.jpg

The problem is that its sucky in any other context and to be frank it doesn't do a very good job of capturing the more curvature of the actual ship, which is much rounder - not flat with a bit of slope and a zig-zag edge :sceptic:

If they really wanted to go all out on this set, they should have redesigned this aspect - which we've been saddled with since 2002 - along the lines of what they *have* done with the dark green quarter-doughnut pieces.

Maybe the next revamp in 2013, 2016 or 2019 will finally improve

IMO, 6209 is the best Slave 1. BY FAR.

edit : it also looks too shiny because the windscreen is trans-clear. What a stupid idea to put a trans-clear windscreen. :hmpf_bad:

Hmmm... By the look of the review it does look like an ultimate Slave 1 would probably be a mash up of the 6209's color scheme with some of the designs tweaks of this one. And even these tweaks aren't for the better: for example, this new one is 4 studs shorter than the 6209, which is very disappointing: it should have been made bigger if anything.

I know that if the 8097 had been released earlier and the 6209 was the newer Slave 1 design, we would all have been drooling over the improvements of the 6209 compared to the 8097.

The figures and the carbonite block are certainly nice though... So I'm buying this set for the figures but I'm keeping the 6209 on display.

Hmm... With the neutered AT-AT design and this neutered Slave 1 design, it seems we might have left the years of constant SW design improvements (for example the X-Wing, AT-TE, TIE Advanced, MTT) behind us...

Seconded. Great figs, but effectively a lazy re-release otherwise, with a new colour scheme to try and pretend otherwise.

Sorry to be so unenthusiastic, but this'll be my 4th Slave 1 (not including minis), and as such I would have expected it to improve on what's come before. I'm all for remaking older ships if they can be improved with more pieces, new pieces or just better design, but this is just 6209 all over again with a flash paintjob and new figs. Shame.

On the upside, however, a(nother) top review by CopMike - many thanks for that !

If 6209 is anything to go by, the eBay resellers out there will probably want to pick up a few copies of this new set, hold on to them until the set is discontinued, and then sell, sell, sell. The 2 awesome and unique minifigs (the much improved Boba Fett and the brand spanking new Bossk) plus the excellent carbonite 'tomb' will see to it that they make a hefty profit. Have you seen the eBay prices for 6209 ?!

The Mando skull is interesting. Where is it supposed to go on the ship?

I believe it's supposed to go on the Castle troll flag...

I just hope they re-release Jango's Slave I. That's one set I've been hoping to get my hands on for years.

Yes, it would be a nice change, with a new (most likely cone-head) Jango Fett and little Boba.

I don't understand all this talk about Han, IMO he isn't the best minifig ever made, though.(he should have had his normal face but with pupils) I do like the new carbonite, you don't have to put him in it, and it's a better scale than that flat block of black from earlier. but there's one thing I do not like:

Loading doors in action

No bombs. I think that the previous Slave 1 had the best balance of saving space and having a good defense, this one seemed like it was just stuffed with FF missiles.

Thanks CopMike!!!!!

I love it, the new Boba Fett is a win and his ship although similar to the last one, looks great, and I thinkI'll have to get it!!

$79.99 USD / 3 minifigs (four if you count the new carbonite piece) = $26.67 per minifig (or straight up $20.00 each).

That's a lot of cash for three little plastic men. Waves arms to keep from falling off the fence...

How do you determine which sets have Chinese parts?

First of all the Bossk head because it is separately bagged, the Boba cape, the rubber band, and possibly the carbonite mold and Boba's helmet, they are the only ones I can pick out for now.

Great review, but one complaint, some of the images are pretty large and do take a bit of time to load. (Crappy connection here at work :hmpf_bad:) The set does look it improves on some aspects of the previous one, but the huge missile launcher (again) is a let down, even if its flick fired ones.

CopMike, my hero! Nice review, the first really good pics we get of any of the upcoming sets. The pictures of the laid-out pieces are nicely done too.

Even though I see that this set is very similar to 6209, I still doubt I can keep myself from buying it. The minifigs and colours are just so sweet.
