Hello everyone,

As you may already know, the 2010 Community Build was a big success. Do to the fact that everyone liked it so much I'm going to start organizing a new "special event".

I would like your opinions on what type of event to organize so post your ideas and we'll discuss it.

How about a community pirate crew? Each person is assigned a role at random (cook, navigator, first mate, etc.) and we take a picture of a minifig we make to fit the role. Then, someone photoshops them into a group picture aboard a pirate vessel.

That's sounds like a fun thing to do but I'm referring to contest ideas, not a pirate photo shoot :pir_laugh2:

How about a ship building contest? I think it would be time after 2 landbased events (PTVII + community build).

Something not too large like the "Pimp my IMTP ship" one, but in a different context. :pir-classic:

Maybe "build a galleon" on the small prefabs? There aren't too many of these ships in the index.

Or "build a sloop" on small prefabs. Possibly a privateer or pirate vessel.

Or "build a galley" like those used in the mediterranean sea

Or "build a junk"; after all China had trouble with pirates too!

Or "build a medieval pirate ship" like the one of Klaus Störtebeker could have looked

Or - hey that's my favourite :pir-cry_happy: - a "stern construction contest", where only the stern is made; in a way comparable to the "figurehead contest"

Sorry again I missed the community build, I had some exams in March :pir-hmpf_bad:

:pir-hmpf: I thought this would be obvious, a ship community build! If you can do it with a Venator Star Destroyer, you can do it with a galleon.... :pir_yoda:

Thats what I was thinking! But all these ideas in one contest. With one prize for each category.

In my opinion:

Ships are okay, but you can't really build a massive ship in a few weeks, so only smaller ones would work.

Battle scene: Good idea, but there might be people out there who don't really own more than 20 pirate minifigs. So I wouldn't go for that.

Building a Captain's cabin or maybe a General's office seems like the best idea to me so far. :pir-classic:

I have had a more, Non-Lego relying contest. I mean, Yes, Their are amazing Lego MOC's made during contests but they are won too easily by using new shiny bricks or clear photography. There should be a truly unique style.

I thought about making a Contest where you make a Comic or a Story about Nautical times. No Redcoat comic about Bluecoats stupidy, Just a proper story about a merchant or pirate or civilian e.t.c.

Obviously you will come up with something better but still, Thats the gist of the idea.

How about some thing more like "Build a galleon", "Build a sloop", "Build a Frigate" (sound familiar?), and possibly "Build a replica"

A stern construction contest is also a nice idea

As far as I know, there hasn't been any piratical minifig customization contest.

A Tournament of retribution would also be nice, or some alternative like Joey proposed

If I had to rank each contest by how much I'd want 'em, I'd say

1. "Build a ship"

2. "Piratical Minifig Customization"

3. "Tournament of Retribution" (or alternative)

4. "Sterns"

Those three were already listed :pir-tongue:

Actually in the MCW forum they held a custom minifig contest a while ago for all themes and Forbidden Cove already had that contest. (which just finished about a week ago)

My vote would go to the Red vs. Blue Tournament of Retribution 2.

OR the Build a ship contest.

First off, We have already had a Captains Cabin Contest so that's a no. We need to move on to bigger and better things.

:pir-hmpf: I thought this would be obvious, a ship community build! If you can do it with a Venator Star Destroyer, you can do it with a galleon.... :pir_yoda:

That's a really good idea

These "special events" aren't like Pillage the Village or the spring contests. The prizes come out of the pockets of the people that organize them, We might not even have a prize for the next event. The staff/crew didn't really plan on having a prize for the Community Build, someone donated a Cannon Battle near the end, just to make it more interesting.

What about a battle scene contest? The people who enter could make battle scenes with bluecoats, pirates, redcoats, etc...

Its an idea, thanks.

Well there's a lot of tension between bluecoats and redcoats lately, I think we really need a tournament of retribution.

Another TOR is currently being discussed.

I can see what you mean, the guys with the nice cameras and shinny bricks do seem to always win :pir-look:

As far as I know, there hasn't been any piratical minifig customization contest.

That's a big "if". Most people aren't in the minifig customization business , in order to have a good chance at winning you need to use decals. But then again you could always have 2 categories.

Thanks everyone :pirate:

Hello!

My ideas would be:

1. Build the meanest weapon system! (Can use elements of space, steampunketc but should look like classic pirates

2. Build the new Lego Pirates Sets which should appear in 2012!

3. Build the ugliest, most ****-up Pirate Ship

Best Regards

How 'bout a "101 ways to {insert somethhing here}"? :pir-classic:

Like.... 101 ways to execute bluecoats :pir_laugh2:

Or maybe a brickfilming contest or decal making contest? :imperialguard_commander1:

I guess it's narrowed down to a 'build a ship' contest... (next time around we can go with your idea Joey)

@ armenderez: He didn't say build a frigate or build a replica, I was simply narrowing down the types of ships.

If we are going to do a "build a ship" contest, we'd definately need more than 3 weeks. Maybe more like 2-3 months.

Why can't we also have some of the other ideas in mind too? LIKE MINE! :pir-devil:

Of course, we can always have more than one contest, can't we?

How about turn a official set into a pirate era set? Just like the castle time wrap contest.

Or the other way around. Turn a pirate set into a different theme, like a power miner imperial flagship. :pir-tongue:

Its not narrowed down to anything, I make the decision on what we do, unless the staff don't like what ever it is.

How about a contest were we make our own special Regiments. A category for Cav, Infantry and Artillery

It sounds fun but most people don't own big armies.
