snaillad Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 Hi, my name is Andrew and this is my first post and first MOC post im on the forums far too much but don't usually open my mouth. Ive just recently started MOC'ing after realising LEGO don't seem to put alternative designs on the back of boxes as much as they did on the back of set boxes from the 1980's. So I thought I would have a go at an alternative design using pieces from Cafe Corner, but make it modular so it would still fit in with my other Town themed sets. This is my third MOC, which is based on an Art Deco theme from the 20/30's, I wanted to create two different buildings with different purposes and interiors but only using pieces from Cafe Corner (I don't like mixing bricks :) ) One building is an Architects office with reception and drawing room, the other is a Bar where you can try before you can buy :D , the upstairs is a coffee house, but was the last thing I made as good bricks were short so it's not as detailed as the others. Please see photos; Hopefully the pics worked, if not there is a link to my brickshelf folder below My Brickshelf photos Comments and questions very much welcome, sorry I don't know much about how to post etc so if it's in the wrong place im sure someone will put it right ;) Cheers Andrew Quote
Skalldyr Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 (edited) The big desk lamp is very clever! Edited April 8, 2010 by Skalldyr Quote
lightningtiger Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 The bar is nice, but that blue and white building - AWESOME - you gotta love that art-deco feel don't you ? But I notice a few problems, the stair case is one stud too narrow and the ladies desk is also too short, but apart from that - really COOL interiors on both buildings ! Great designing 'snaillad' and I'm a conformist! ! Quote
BlueBard Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 Really nice modular little ones! An the interior deco is wonderful, especially that big lamp Welcome to EB, BTW! Quote
Redcross Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Nice work snaillad, To be build from one set is a challenge. I love the architect desk. Quote
snaillad Posted April 9, 2010 Author Posted April 9, 2010 Thanks for the comments so far, much appreciated, I am fond of Art-Deco, I think it lends itself to lego very well, straight lines and simplicity, but the more round pieces Lego create the better I wanted to build the staircases into the walls to stabilise the structures and also build under them. The drawing room is what I am most pleased with, especially the lamp! I have a couple of other MOC's I made previously, using Cafe Corner pieces only again and one using the Medievil Market town centre pieces only, the link is below if you wanna check them out. Comments welcome for those MOC's also! My other mocs Quote
Night City Dream Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 Very nice MOC indeed! And I like the shot with the cat - it's like a watcher! Quote
anna Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 This creation is packed with details! Well done, I like it. Quote
Lord Arjay Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 Love it, nice detailing. Well done on only using peices from cafe corner but keeping it modular! Quote
prateek Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 Awesome! I like that it uses only CC, and it looks awesome as two seperate buildings Quote
MetroiD Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 What a nice looking MOC indeed Andrew! Have you considered changing the roof structure of the blue building? I think the contrast would good there - even though I'm aware of the fact you can't really accomplish that with just the Cafe Corner bricks :/ P.S.: Come to think of it, you could try and SNOT the dark red roof slopes if you get the chance... Highster 11 Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Ha-ha, this picture rocks! BTW, what are doing these stormtroopers here?! Nice MOC you created and cheers! Nicky Quote
Forneiro Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Excellent MOC with plenty of details. Oh, and a very nice cat too ;) Quote
snaillad Posted April 20, 2010 Author Posted April 20, 2010 Thanks for the comments again everyone! Thats Winston by the way, I think he likes to play as much as I do, many minifigs heads disappeared when building this MOC Unfortunately there was not many useful bricks left to improve the roof, originally I wanted to make the stone/brown building one window higher to give that Egyptian style central column which many Art Deco buildings where I live have but this was not possible. The stormtrooper's are on shore leave from a star destroyer! They might be the minions of evil but at least their polite waving to the girl on the bike! I have a couple of other MOC's on this link Other mocs Both of which only use pieces from a certain set. My aim with these MOC's is to show, you don't have to take all your sets apart to achieve a totally different set but also that LEGO should show alternative Models on the Box or in the instructions like they used too when I were a lad (I'm 24 :) ) If anyone has a link to their MOC's using just bricks from that set or Art Deco style I would love to see, please message etc. Cheers again and any questions or comments still very much welcome!
