D-17 Attack Copter

[NewRight]

A thin agile helicopter armed with a heavy machine gun. Build for speed in its sleek design sporting spare thrusters and extra fuel compartments as originally designed by the company Polytech.

Not many changes from the WIP I posted on Flickr a week or so ago. I tried giving it landing gear, but it didn't look right. A more formal photograph for this creation.

Interesting MOC 'NewRight' - the machine gun - is it a chain gun type ?

Like the styling of it - a smaller design similar to the 80's tv series Blue Thunder !

There may have been a slight influence from the Avatar Gunship, but most of the inspiration from it was moral. Just keeping me building and at most times I would think about it when building the nose of the copter which proved to be the most difficult part.

I know it's a 'sci-fi' helicopter, but have you thought about a tail rotor or some other system to counter the torque generated by the main rotor?

I do have plans to add a tail rotor in the future. Unfortunately my only plan at this point involves <a href='http://www.bricklink.com/search.asp?itemID=8782&colorID=10'>this</a> part that I don't have. Once I have the piece I'll get working on a new tail rotor. Unless of course I find a different way to aesthetically add a tail rotor.

Cool. I'm not really into sci-fi MOCs, and there isn't much of any use that I could say about the build so far, but the lack of a tail rotor bothered me somewhat. I look forward to seeing how you incorporate it.

Am I the only one not seeing any likeness to this barring the greyness and rounded nose?

Regardless a very fun creation NewRight, I'm awful at building scale vehicles so its always a pleasure to se others do them justice. I love the way its not completely tiled nor studded, very militaristic.

I really like the guns and the size of the ship, I wish the pic was taken on white becasue it's hard to see the details.

I agree with the avatar referance though, really cool.

I agree the nose if very Avatarish. I also ordered the part I mentioned above from a BrickLink seller. I tried to see what it would look like using a black Technic cylinder and as soon as I buy on in grey I agree that it will probably look much nicer. Thanks for the suggestion Ralph.
