CMP Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 (edited) Yes, yes, I know there is already one excellent review here on Eurobricks. However, 2 reviews doesn't kill anyone. Besides, it gives 2 opinions on the set in question. (Well, that and I wanted to test my new camera. )) Anyway, I stopped by TRU a few hours ago and picked up Fight for the Dagger. I was originally going to get Hassasin's Hideout along with it, but the buy one get one 50% off deal was too much to resist. I was quite excited when I opened this set, and right before I was about to begin building, I thought, "Hey, this a perfect chance to test my new camera." It was originally just a test, but after the first few shots I decided to make a review. Hope you enjoy. THE PARTS Prince of Persia is one of the greatest new parts themes ever. There's even a new color to compliment the new pieces. This set only has 2 instances of that color, but at least it has some. Anyway, here's a pic of the parts in a big ol' pile. Here are some of the new parts along with the new color. Parts Score: 8 The part are interesting. Dark tan arms, the dark tan jumper plates, the Dark-Svelte-was-Wrong 1x2s, and the pearl gold grate are the only real important parts. The rest are mostly repitition, due to the 2 ostrich stalls. THE MINIFIGS Minifigs are half the reason we buy Lego sets at all, no? Prince of Persia is no exception at all. The figs are just...exquisite. The poor Ostrich Jockey is the only one without back face printing. He's all alone. Minifig Score: 9 This is the only set in the Prince of Persia line with no simple Dastan. Due to that fact and the Sheik Amar, the minifig score gets a good strong 9. The Ostrich Jockey has only 2 parts worth noting-the black bandana (First one in quite a while) and his face. The shirt is found twice in Fight for the Dagger, and the legs are just simple. THE WEAPON STAND I've divided this set into 3 submodels, each of which will be reviewed by one of our characters. Dastan is here to help us review the weapon stand. It was only after the set was assembled that Dastan realized the weapon stand was actually a jungle gym. Weapons Stand Score: 6 It's but a simple stand. Not much to note. The flag is nice touch. THE SPECTATOR BOX Sheik is going to help us examine the spectator box. (Glare was unremovable.) Sheik watches the ensuing race, however unaware that... A scorpion and a snake are awaiting their next meal. Spectator Box Score: 7 It's a bit bare, but the flags, gold grate, little creatures, and the vertical logs make it a reasonably worthy edition to this set. THE OSTRICH STALLS Our Ostrich Jokey is going to help us observe the main part of this set, hoping it will redeem his lack of facial expression. Here's how the launching mechanism works. Simply pull back the lever... And release the man-eating ostriches! Ostrich Stall Score: 8 A decent design, but the usage of parts takes away form the rest of the set. It's a nice, working mechanism, though. THE WHOLE SHEBANG Overall Score: 7.6 Not the greatest set in the line, but...ostriches! Shirtless Dastan! Sheik Amar! It's the little gems within the rock that makes this set worth the buy. However, the build isn't the best. I'd suggest using it for parts, unless you're after the whole line. A decent set. The main way TLC could fix it up is lowering the price by maybe 5 bucks. Comments? Feedback? Aslo, tell me if the pics are any good, I think it works twice as good as my old camera. Oh, and if an admin could add a poll, I'd appreciate it. Edited April 2, 2010 by Svelte Added poll Quote
Jack Bricker Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Very nice review. I like the pictures that you took. They were both good quality and they were funny. I just got this set today myself and it is a very nice set. I would give it a higher score since you really can't make a set better in this size. It may be a little over priced but, I don't think that is such a big deal considering all of the new parts, assessories, and animals. Quote
dabulls03 Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Great review. Two reviews are definitly better than one. I might have to get this set just for Sheik Amar. I that back printing on the torso. Oh, and two ostriches wouldn't be a bad addition to my collection. The pictures are great, although you might want to use a flat white background next time. I rated above average, mainly because of the minifigs. Quote
not-in-use-anymore Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Nice set with new parts, but the scorpion and snake seem like they were put in for parts. Quote
samurai-turtle Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 Nice set with new parts, but the scorpion and snake seem like they were put in for parts. Hey, I do not have any scorpions more reason for me to get it. And, I like the comments the figures where saying kind of funny. Quote
