Its a horrible news in the Console World !!!

I read today on the French CNN equivalent that, according to Merril Lynch, the console, if it was to come out today would cost to manufacture 800$ !!! (and only to manufacture !!!!)

The IBM Cell ship and the Blu-Ray disc are really expensive !!!

And another bad sign: at the Taipei Game Show, only one console was shown with no demo games !!! Ouch !!!

Check the info in French here

I can't read French so I looked around at what other people are saying. There is no way PS3 will launch this Spring. People are hoping for $400 at launch but I can see $5-600 for just the system and then all the extras *wacko* PS3 has a big task in front of them.

I have always prefered Nintendo and I am hoping for a $200 price tag at launch later this year. Nintendo is picking up momentum with even the little bit of info coming out for it. E3 will be the big show and much of the gaming world will be decided there.

Either way I shudder to think about all the LEGO I could get with $200-300. At least 50 lbs of it.

I cannot see how the PS3 will be available before 2007 !!!!

Its a huge challenge for Sony !!!

To have a much much cheaper console (and not the 800$ one), it would need basically a new cheaper microprocessor and disc !!!!! so basically 2/3 (?) of the console !!!

I hope you are right SuvieD regarding the price of the Revolution !!!

Anyhow lets see how Sony overcomes this !!!

Well... Nintendo has not made any official announcements regarding the price of the Revolution, but they did hint at $200... but it will most likely go higher. It is also supposed to be the size of three DVD

By the time PS3 comes out, microsoft will have somthing bigger and better. I'm happy with my XBOX 360, and i don't really think i'll have a use for anything more than whats its already capable of. (now that i think of it, i don't even use half of what its capable of. )

sony have always said the ps3 would be expensive because of the technology of the system and that they want the machine to have a 10 year life span! which is unheard of in the console market. it is a shame but the price of the system is not the only expensive problem for ps3 owners. the system uses a HD res of 1080p which is of course in the very pricey plasma screen market. so you are looking at another $2000-3000 for a screen that can do it justice. :(

The Xbox 360 also needs a HDTV to achieve great graphics. From what I've seen, the difference between a old Xbox and a 360 on a normal TV is very, very small.

And the Revolution...well, I'm getting it. No doubt there. I'm a fanboy after all. But seriously: very innovative controller, backwards compactible, free wifi, downloadable 'old' games (I'm so gonna use this a LOT)...a Revolution indeed.

I also think the new controller will act like the touch screen did for the DS: people who hardly or never play games will end up doing so. Which is good for the entire console market. Go Nintendo

the 360 does need a HD tv but it's res is only 720p not the high 1080p (it can run 1080i), these hd tv's are cheaper. a good 32" lcd is only

I think the PS3 could be Sony's fall from the top of the console market, they'll lose so many fans if the console costs that much. Make way for the Revolution!

Agreed. 2k is rediculous for a gaming system. Even if it does offer all that hardrive and whatnot, there going to have an extremly hard time pushing that.

I remember the PS2 being very pricy at first (around 550 euros, which is 600 dollar or so), but it sold very well. All because of the reputation of the PS1. And the PS3 will sell well because of the reputation of the PS1 and PS2.

If it'll really be that expensive, they're gonna have a very hard time fighting the Revolution (which apparently will be around 200 dollar).

On a final note, what it cost to make a system is not what the system is usually sold for. Microsoft doen't make profit on their 360's, they make profit on its games...

True, but there is a big differnce in 600 (whitch was a marked up price from 300 retail when they wer new) to $2,000. Most parents wouldn't spend that much on themselfs let alone there 10yr old for a gaming system. Yes, it does more than just play games, but in reality, thats going to be its biggest selling point.

On another note, i don't really think that the revolution is going to take off here in the states. Sounds like it would do well in japan, but considering it doesn't offer half of what the 360 offers i just don't see it doing well.

This can't be.I mean, 800 froggin dollers for a game system!?!?!Sorry 'bout that, but still that isn't very civilized to make such prices.I hope that's not the real price. It looks like game prices will be higher also. Please let there be PS3 Spyro.Still, Sony just lower the price before I lower it for 'ya :-D .

I think the reason they delayed was because Halo 3 comes out the same day, and that would beat them as most people will have an Xbox 360 already.
