Hey guys,

I want to order some stuff of Bricklink so I'm signing up for paypal. Everything went smoothly but I still need to add a credit card. Which I don't have. I do however, have a 'normal' debitcard (a Rabobank Europas) which has the Maestro logo on it. On paypal's site, it says:

Debit Cards (also called check cards, ATM cards, or banking cards) are accepted if they have a Visa or MasterCard logo.

Now, I'm wondering: the Maestro symbol looks like the Mastercard symbol, does this mean I have a Mastercard symbol on it or not?

Also, I need to add a card verification number which I'm unable to find. It's supposed to be on the back but I can't find it. Can anybody more experienced with Paypal help me out with this? Thanks in advance

Hmm. I'm not sure if things are the same in Europe as in North Am, and I can't specifically comment about your card. However, if you have a debit card, you have a bank account. And you should be able to connect PayPal to your bank account.

I don't know if my information on this is up to date but when I set up a paypal-account I was sure I didn't need a credit card. The procedure went as follows without one:

1. You transfer money to PayPal's own bank-account

2. This money is then stored in your account there

3. Use PayPal up to the financial limit, i.e. the amount of money you initially transferred to PayPal

I never used my account however so I don't know whether they changed something, or if the procedure is valid only for german users...

Hope this could be of help.

Greetings,

Cutty

nono visa/ mastercard is a different thing compared to maestro.

maestro is an international banking system that is used by most banks in europe. It's usually printed on your regular card, but it's not a seperate credit card system. It's just a way to allow most europeans, to pay in Europe without having a real creditcard. For instance, i can use my regular card in germany, only because the maestro mark is on it... otherwise i'd have to use my visacard, because the germans very often don't have the banking system of Belgium and Holland... So there's no real entity behind Maestro, it's an international cooperation between many financial institutions... i don't think you'll ever see maestro at work, tho, unless they tell you...

Mastercard-Visa are credit cards from private financial institutions. If you have an account at your bank, you can apply for an extra card, a credit card. Your bank will then apply for a visa on your behalf. If you're working and have a decent income, you won't have a problem getting one. The bank will give you then a new card that looks pretty much the same as your regular card, only there's a logo of visa or mastercard on it, indicating that's your visacard... In reality it goes like this: you pay with your visacard, at the end of the month the financial company behind visa (in my case BCC) will send you a document with all the stuff you bought with your visa, and at the same time, it will send the bill straight to your bank.

i don't think you can use maestro on paypal, you're gonna have to apply for a creditcard, i'm afraid...

Thanks for the info Sne. I doubt I could get a credit card since I go to University and therefore don't have an "real" income. I do some part-time jobs but I doubt I could get a credit card based on those.

And Cutty, I figured that out, and was actually gonna do it that way untill I ran into a dutch seller. I can now simply pay by bank transfer. We'll see how my first Bricklink order turns out
