jamzee Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Hi everyone I've recently started using Design By Me and have noticed today ALOT more bricks, some of which would be really useful in my model. However, when I click on them it says if I use them I won't be able to buy them(!) Does anyone know what is happening here? (btw I'm in the UK). Thanks for any help James Quote
alienwar9 Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Hi, I'm pretty sure you removed the "design by me" box filter. This adds the Mindstorms and Creator brick palette, which you are unable to purchase from. If you notice the 4 boxes above the brick palette that filter color, etc, the 3rd one to the right is the "box filter". It says "filter bricks by boxes". Click on that, and then on Design By Me (the first option). This will show you only the buyable bricks. I checked just in case to see if I got any new bricks and so far nothing. Unless its region specific, I think its the box filter. When you click on the "turn off filters" button it does that. Hope this helped! Quote
Ricecracker Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Another thing to mention is the exorbitant price of bricks from Design By Me. Granted, they are picked out by hand in Poland for each and every order, Bricklink.com will be able to supply you with much more reasonably priced parts, along with a larger assortment. Quote
brickzone Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Ricecracker: I still find PaB cheaper for certain rarer/new parts, like the new 1x2x2 and 1x2x3 windows, and indeed window glass in general. Certain other newer pieces are also cheaper on PaB, and of course available in quantity. Never worthwhile making a dedicated order but I usually chuck in a few sensible choices with any Lego S@H order I make. Quote
AllanSmith Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Another thing to mention is the exorbitant price of bricks from Design By Me. When the new version came out I queried the price increase for the same model. I was told by LEGO that $NZ 15 is added for printing the box and instructions Quote
jamzee Posted March 3, 2010 Author Posted March 3, 2010 Thanks for the replies everyone, very helpful. I think I must have clicked on the filter box - strange though that there are pieces on there that you can't order. I'm trying to recreate some classic space models but its proving tricky with to get them "just right" because of the parts that are available now... still, it is proving a fascinating challenge! I'm trying to recreate some classic space models but its proving tricky with to get them "just right" because of the parts that are available now... still, it is proving a fascinating challenge! Here's something it took me a long time to discover-- I used to think that once you added a color filter, you couldn't remove it without removing the box filter as well, and thus you'd have to filter DesignByMe back out. However, if you've used a color filter, you can click the color filter box, and at the bottom of the color pallette there's a button that says "remove filter". This way you can remove a color filter without removing all filters. Another hint: bricks in the brick tray that can be purchased will have a bluish-green background box with rounded corners. Bricks that cannot be purchased will just have a plain white background. So even when you've got all the bricks showing you can tell which are purchasable and which are not. Hope this helps! Quote
Peppermint_M Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 I always get a load of parts when the internet isn't connected. It can become quite confusing too see all those extras. Bricklink is still cheaper for the bulk of parts. Quote
