BearHeart Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Does anyone have quality issues with the armor printing on the Golden Knight brestplate. I opened my set recently and found that the printing (especially the lining up of the borders of the design on the breastplate) is off centre. I looked at close up pics of the set on brickshelf as well as the review on EB and found the same problem. Has anyone else noticed this? Quote
metalandi Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 (edited) Printings can always be a bit off their position, not a big deal to me. I guess there is a bit of a tolerance in the printing machine (don't know exactly how the machine looks like that does that) so the torso fits into it when it's beeing printed. I wouldn't even call this a quality issue Edited March 2, 2010 by metalandi Quote
Sir Dillon Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 How off-centre is it? My knight's armour looks fine to me, as do the breatplates in the reviews: If you look very closely at the first and second picture, you can see that they are ever so slightly crooked, but it's not something I would have noticed unless I was looking for it. BearHeart Posted March 2, 2010 Author Posted March 2, 2010 That kind of what mine looks like, maybe a tad worse. I dunno, maybe Im being overly picky. Its just that I noticed it as soon as I looked at it out of the box. Quote
metalandi Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Could you provide a picture of yours so we can decide if you are overly picky or not? Quote
BearHeart Posted March 2, 2010 Author Posted March 2, 2010 Could you provide a picture of yours so we can decide if you are overly picky or not? Unfortunately, I dont have a picture of it and I can't take one at the moment because the set is in my parents basement 200km away. but it pretty much looks like Sir Dillon's pictures. Quote
NewRight Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 I haven't noticed any quality issues to speak of. Then again I usually don't look to closely at my castle figs... pirates figs yes, but usually not castle. (Another story for another time though) If it does look like White Fang's figure I would say that there isn't much to be concerned about especially with a design like the one on the armor. Quote
PerryDaPirate Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 The printing doesn't seem off to me, however, the plastic on my golden knight feels very cheap, and the arms rotate very loosely in they're sockets. Quote

Clone OPatra Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 When I got the set, the printing on my golden knight's armor was definitely off and ugly. I contacted LEGO service and they sent me a new, correctly printed one. I can provide a picture later if anyone doesn't believe me or would like to see. Quote
Ricecracker Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 I've checked one of mine, and it's perfect. If it's really such a big issue, get a free replacement part from Lego directly. Quote
Sir Dillon Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 I disagree with you. It's possible that PerryDaPirate's copy turned out differently than yours did. I would be interested in a comparison shot, if you don't mind. Quote
cagri Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 The printing doesn't seem off to me, however, the plastic on my golden knight feels very cheap, and the arms rotate very loosely in they're sockets. It's because parts in pearl gold are made of some other type of plastic. That's why they feel different. I also agree that "normal" plastic is better. But you can't get a proper gold/silver/bronze color tone with it, they always look dark in that plastic. Also, some SLIGHT printing problems may be experienced, it's inevitiable. If it bothers you too much, contact customer service. They will gladly sent you a new one. But if yours look like the one in Sir Dillon's pictures, then you are being picky :) That's how they all are .. Quote
Clone OPatra Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 I would be interested in a comparison shot, if you don't mind. Here it is. On the right is the one I got in the set. On the left is the one I got from Customer Service. It still is not shiny like the armor shown on the box, but LEGO did not make it that way in reality. I thought the first one was significantly bad to request a replacement. Quote
CMP Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 The GKnight's arms are made from some other plastic....foreign plastic....his left arm is literally dented. Quote
Sir Dillon Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Here it is. On the right is the one I got in the set. On the left is the one I got from Customer Service. Thanks for the image. The right one is definitely abnormally poor. Not only is it to the side, but printing is quality is bad as well. Quote

Mine looks like the one on the left. I guess they consider that good quality but to me it looks pretty poor considering that ALL the other armor pieces look really good. It seems only the gold armor looks like this. I think its because its gray and black painted on gold plastic and the colors kinda run. If it was gold and black paint on gray plastic (but in the same color pattern) then the problem wouldn't exist. Quote
Lorentzen Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Well from the pictures provided it's clear that you definitelt aren't overly picky - but I'm still amazed that LEGO thinks that the one on the left is "good quality" printing.... LEGO was of a MUCH better quality when I was i kid (80's- early 90's) Today I often experience new bricks that have cracks after very little play time - even regular white 1x2 bricks!!! Quote
cagri Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Yes, you are not being picky. This printing is not ok, ask the customer service if you want a replacement. They'll send you a new one fore free, right away. But I think we gotta be fair to TLG in these printing problems. In almost any printed item, you will come across some problematic ones. TLG is not doing a particularly bad job with printing unlike some other quality issues. I also don't agree that they were better in the past. I had a box full of Classic Space figures and the space logo was never identical in different figures :D Quote

I know i couldnt make even two that look the same :) Quote

But if yours look like the one in Sir Dillon's pictures, then you are being picky :) That's how they all are .. That's not true-- Pearl Gold (Warm Gold) parts have existed in multiple types of plastic. Hard-plastic ones have existed in BIONICLE and Exo-Force sets, as have softer plastic ones. If you're judging by the Atlantis tridents, those are made from the softer plastic by default. Here it is. On the right is the one I got in the set. On the left is the one I got from Customer Service. It still is not shiny like the armor shown on the box, but LEGO did not make it that way in reality. I thought the first one was significantly bad to request a replacement. The one on the left looks perfectly fine to me. There's a bit of off-centeredness, but nothing out of the ordinary. I also always love/hate how people always blame foreign production for any LEGO quality errors. People did the same for BIONICLE whenever there was an error, saying "it's because LEGO now gets produced in China"-- note that BIONICLE parts have never been made in China, and in recent years they've consistently been produced in Denmark, Hungary, and the Czech Republic. The fact is, if there's a quality issue in a main line LEGO product, it's still LEGO's fault, and not because they chose to produce in another country. They have just as much control of the quality in foreign countries as they do in Denmark, provided that the products come out of their own factories. And the only products I know to come out of other companies' factories are extended-line products, some Duplo products and BIONICLE canisters. Quote
