Still Raindrop Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Many of you have seen my fish and chips stand; however, I have done some updating to the area around it. Here is my current beach: And another shot: The beach itself is somewhat separate from the rest of the town (it's on another shelf), but it is rather close to our (pretty plain) A-Frame This is the rest of the town. A new building is going up--cool points to the first person who can guess what it is. Quote
BlueBard Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Nice updates! My favourite is without doubt the beach, with that great waves and details like the foam, the clams or the seagulls And of course the little scene with the screaming guy and the crab is really funny Quote
lightningtiger Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Cute A frame house 'Mariko' - reminds me of a set from the 1980's - sweet ! What about the poor guy on the beach - crabs like his toes ?! Really like your seagulls - great brick-built birds ! Fantastic design job 'Mariko' and I'm a conformist! ! Quote
Still Raindrop Posted March 1, 2010 Author Posted March 1, 2010 Thanks; though I have to admit, the seagulls aren't actually my design (though the ravens on the town buildings are). They came from an ad in the back of some LEGO instructions showing the new fire sets. Quote
ImLost Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Great scene, Mariko. As someone who has been pinched by a crab (more than once), this MOC was like looking in the mirror! I love how you constructed the water. And the fish sign on top the store is very clever! I have two suggestions: 1. I think the boardwalk would look a lot more "wooden" if you tile it with brown planks. 2. I also think the sand looks a little too flat. If you have more tan pieces, maybe adding some mounds and other elevation changes will enhance the overall look. Overall, a beautiful MOC. Nice work. Quote
Still Raindrop Posted March 4, 2010 Author Posted March 4, 2010 Thanks! I'm glad you like it! I'll try adding more texture to the sand. As for the boardwalk, well, I don't have that many brown tiles after re-flooring the town hall, but I'll look into ordering some more. Quote
Still Raindrop Posted March 8, 2010 Author Posted March 8, 2010 (edited) Still no guesses as to what the new building is? There's a big hint on the front of the building itself! (No, it's not a TV News station--those guys are just reporting on the new building going up) I'm also interested to hear what people think of the town's size and style. Technically, the buildings are on the Modular scale, but I doubt that they'd look that good next to the official sets, or the brilliant creations by many of the members here. So, I tend to think of them as sort of a Classic Town feel, but more complete, and on a Modular scale. Edited March 8, 2010 by Mariko Quote

I bet its where one of those fortune-telling card-reading psychics work. As for the town so far, I like it. Just because it doesn't have the fancy decor of other modular buildings doesn't mean it looks bad. Even though the town only has three buildings so far, it looks very lively and busy. Good work! I love all the little details such as the clock, the eyeball, and ofcourse, the fish sign on the beach. I would love to see some interior shots. Edited March 8, 2010 by ImLost Quote
Still Raindrop Posted March 8, 2010 Author Posted March 8, 2010 (edited) Thanks; I'm glad that you like it, despite its lack of fancy decor. I'm also glad that it was recognizable as an eyeball, but the building is going to be an ophthalmologist's office. If you want to see interiors for the soda shop or the town hall, you can find the topics here: Town Hall and Soda Shop (You'll have to scroll down in the Town Hall topic to see the more completed interior) I'll post interior shots of the ophthalmologist's when I complete the building. I could take some pics of the fish and chips stand's interior, if you wanted, but it's nothing spectacular. Edited March 8, 2010 by Mariko Quote

I said it was a psychic's den because I've seen tarot cards with eye balls on the back. Plus, eyeballs represent looking into the future, right? Also, the diamond pattern above the doors, as well as the building's color scheme looks kind of mystical to me. Guess I don't get the "cool points" huh? As for your buildings' interior- awesome. In the town hall, I love how the books on the shelves have different degrees of depth. I love the light gray jumper plates you used to create a metal cabinet. The winding steercase and the EZ-chair- both incredible. My only suggestion would be to add some decor to your interior's walls, such as a painting or something. Right now, sections of the interior's wall look a little empty. The soda shop looks great as well. I love the retro color scheme. The soda fridge is beautiful! Well done! If you have time, take some photos of the fish stand's interior too. I would like to see it. Edited March 8, 2010 by ImLost Quote
Still Raindrop Posted March 9, 2010 Author Posted March 9, 2010 Thanks! I'll get those pictures up when I can Quote
Still Raindrop Posted March 18, 2010 Author Posted March 18, 2010 I discovered it's difficult to get the lighting right for pictures in such a small area as the interior of the fish and chips stand. I'll keep trying, though. Anyone else have thoughts on my building style? Like it? Dislike it? See ways I could improve? Quote
Still Raindrop Posted March 22, 2010 Author Posted March 22, 2010 Nobody else has any thoughts or suggestions? When I posted my first town (Brickenridge), the comments and suggestions of members helped me make it a better town, and I do always want to be improving Rossville. Anyway, I have some more pictures. Here is the interior of the fish and chips stand: And now, let me introduce some of the minifigures of Rossville (though I'm sure I've missed some, and not all of them are named yet). The captions above the pictures will tell you who they are. From left to right: Roy L. Still Raindrop Posted March 23, 2010 Author Posted March 23, 2010 (edited) Well, if nobody has anything else to say, I guess I'd better just keep posting more, and hope for the best. Edited March 30, 2010 by Mariko Quote
Still Raindrop Posted March 30, 2010 Author Posted March 30, 2010 Some interior shots of the A-frame: The floor plan: The kitchen, including my blender (which I already made a topic about a while ago ) The fireplace and two Futons, which can be converted into a bed: The bathroom: (you can't really see it, but I used one of these pieces on the toilet. In the picture, it just looks empty) Thoughts would be appreciated. I tried to make a sort of a loft for the upper floor, but I couldn't really do it without making the house bigger (and I don't have enough pieces to do that) Quote
fred67 Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Well, if nobody has anything else to say, I guess I'd better just keep posting more, and hope for the best. Oh. I thought your new building was going to be The Tower of Sauron. Love the blender... good MOCs. It would be cool to make the beach more sloped... I guess that requires an abundance of bricks, but you could use filler bricks. I also really like the other interior accents including the kitchen and bathroom. Quote
ImLost Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Your interior looks good, especially the blender. But I think the container with the clear door should not be used as a stove/ oven combo. There should be more solid space underneath the burners and the oven door should have a solid border. A completely transparent door just does not look realistic IMO. I also think you should add walls around your shower. Additionally, your faucets don't really look like faucets IMO. Perhaps adding two knobs to each and have the nozzle point downward will make the faucets more realistic.. Still, a good job overall. I like your kitchen especially. Quote
Still Raindrop Posted April 5, 2010 Author Posted April 5, 2010 Thanks--glad you like them! I'm going to try to flesh out the beach more. As far as the faucets, I'm really not sure how I could change that, apart from trying to track down some of those elusive faucet pieces that LEGO put out for a while. I am kind of pressed for space, and so making the faucets bigger (as the methods you suggested would do) wouldn't really work. Quote
Mr. Elijah Timms Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Nice job-- and I really enjoyed seeing that I'm not the only one who enjoys giving names to their minifigs! For me it probably started after having all these individual Star Wars figs, each with their own name and unique qualities. Finally I was compelled to do the same with my Pirate crew, and actually it's where my login name comes from (haven't been able to take a pic of Mr. Timms, yet, but he's coming). Now that I've started with City, I've done the same, giving everyone a proper identity that gets rid of that 'tub of random generic people' feeling I get when I open the container with all the minifigs. The red tractor is driven by old man Jed Tucker. Nat Whitaker is the kooky ex-war hero who flies the yellow seaplane up by the lake. And of course, for whatever reason, all of my policemen have names whose first name start with the same letter as the last (Chief Barry Barrett, Officer Dave Dunst, Officer Larry Lewis, etc etc). I was sure I wasn't the only one, but now I know someone who does the same. Anyways, great job with the layout and must say my favorite part is where the surf meets the sand. Keep up the good work! Quote
Still Raindrop Posted April 6, 2010 Author Posted April 6, 2010 Thanks! I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one to name my minifigs, as well Do you think you'll show us some pictures of your minifigs? The names are great! Quote
