lightningtiger Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 Here's a quick post, one photo only........ I thought the 3177 was a bit plain and lost a bit on the Smart car look, so I made some changes. Comment as you please, I really would like to know what people think is it better as just a 3177 or my MOD one. I'm a conformist! everyone ! Quote
prateek Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 This is more detailed for sure. One suggestion would be to remove the cheese from the rear view mirrors Quote
lightningtiger Posted February 22, 2010 Author Posted February 22, 2010 This is more detailed for sure. One suggestion would be to remove the cheese from the rear view mirrors Thanks for the comment 'prateek', I'll give that a try, the only reason for the cheese is that the headlight plate just has an ugly hole which other people have suggested said cheese piece. Again thanks and I'm a conformist! ! Quote
lightningtiger Posted February 22, 2010 Author Posted February 22, 2010 Where's the cheese ? Not here anymore......... and now for a frontal view I'm now thinking can anything be done with the rear of the Smart car, I'll have a head scratch about it. Comments again very welcome - even other ideas - I'll give them a go ! I'm a conformist! ! Quote
Ralph_S Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 The modified version doesn't really look all that much more like a SMART car IMO. For the rearview mirrors, I'd suggest using a finger hinge with the 'finger' sticking out. I agree that the light clips look better without the cheese, but they still look awfully big to me. Cheers, Ralph Quote
Matt Dawson Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 For the side mirrors, you may want to look at my Pizza Van here. Quote
lightningtiger Posted February 22, 2010 Author Posted February 22, 2010 Thanks 'Ralph_S' and 'Matt Dawson' for your comments. This was just a trial and error MOC, so well as the saying goes back to the old drawing board. I'm a conformist! ! Quote
dr_spock Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 Not bad, you can also try a 1x1 tile for a side mirror. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=38454 Quote
prateek Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 Also, you might want to try what Matt Dawson suggested, but instead of a tile, use a 1x1 round plate. Quote
CMP Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 From the pictures of the set, it seems there is no door on the trunk. There's a suggestion. Quote
lightningtiger Posted February 23, 2010 Author Posted February 23, 2010 I got sick of the mirrors, try a few tricks - but I gave up ! I have changed my mind on the front end again. Comments welcome ! I'm a conformist! ! Quote
wooootles Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 I actually like the stock version better. Reason being that I already have 5 of these guys and modding all of them will be a hassle I played around with 3177 like you did, with the side mirrors (ended up getting rid of it like you did). You can try putting the higher-sloped windshield instead (found on the 7236 cop car) and put cheese slopes in front, it works fine too. But then it looks closer to a Mini than a smart this way. Quote
lightningtiger Posted February 23, 2010 Author Posted February 23, 2010 Thanks 'wooootles' for your comment. In any case this is more of a experiment in MODing the 3177 - that why this one I brought is going through lots of changes. I'm a conformist! ! Quote
