voltio Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 Dear buying experts and fellow Lego addicts, I have been trying to find a reasonably-priced Air Tech Claw Rig for some time--$130, which is the lowest price on BL, is too much for me right now--and I recently located an incomplete copy for considerably less than that. The problem is this: I don't know how incomplete it actually is, and the seller is not a Lego expert. Basically, what you see in the pic is what you get. With that in mind, one question: How many fewer pieces does the alternative model of 8868 use than the main model? The item in the photo is the alternative model, and I seriously doubt that any of the extra pieces for the main model are included. If anyone has a pic of the parts left over after building the B-model, that would REALLY help me out.
CP5670 Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 The alternate model uses something like 75% of the parts, but there are some significant omissions. It doesn't use the small pneumatic piston, which will be expensive to replace. Some other parts it doesn't use are the turntable, differentials, engine elements and white 2x2 round bricks. In that picture, it looks like the battery box is missing too, even though the model normally has it. If this is on ebay, I think you're better off just waiting for another 8868 auction. This set comes up on ebay relatively frequently.

I'm bidding on a better example than this one right now, in fact, based on your advice. I suppose the moral of the story is, don't buy sets with expensive missing parts.
