Cutty Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 Howl's Moving Castle! An anime by Hayao Miyazaki....and just like Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away, it blew me away! Damn, I love that movie. Just for the setting: Two idyllic german-romanticist-postcard-style countries in an industrial-post-victorian-german-kaiserreich-steamtech-era (ok, somewhat confusing...but it fits) start war over the disappearance of the prince of one country. Meanwhile young hat-maker Sophie (don't know her name in the english version) meets the wizard "Haruru/Howl" and falls in love with him, and in return is cursed with old age by his former love interest...an evil witch. Now Sophie seeks to remove the curse, only to find she has to lift a curse from Haruru/Howl as well, to gain is love. This movie is just a fest of well written characters! All the main protagonists are convincing, the support characters don't just act as comic relief, though they do much to entertain, like Calcifer, the fire demon, who brings the Moving Castle into motion. The scene where Sophie and Haruru fry bacon and eggs on Calcifer is soooo cute! But as any film dealing with love and war we have some serious drama here that ruptures the romantic atmosphere until you feel left with a strange feeling somewhere inside your belly. And for one time it's not this old "good vs. bad" conflict where you have to relate to one side, rather you see the perspective of persons that do hardly participate in the war (well apart from Haruru) but will suffer from it. Animation-wise this is high quality stuff! As you would expect from a full length feature by Studio Ghibli... Oh this movie is just so amazing and I feel I already gave away too much info, so get out there rent it and enjoy it! Now! Quote
The Hordesman Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 Have not yet seen this latest Miyazaki movie, but Iam sure I will agree with Cutty when I see it. *sweet* Well, the latest movie I saw was Wallace & Gromit: The curse of the wererabbit. Great characters, idyllic england and those great jokes that hide in the surroundings (like product names, book names, etc). Quote
Dino_Bot Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 Just watched Mars Attack by one of the most brilliant directors ever: Tim Burton 8- Quote
Sir Dillon Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 Just watched X-men for the second time, this time the 1.5 version. Though the movie is great and i enjoyed watching it again, I was a little disappointed with the extras, because I misinterpreted the description of the movie, and was expecting the movie itself to be an hour longer, but really it was just a few minutes longer, and the rest was how they made it. Which was still neat to watch. Now I can't wait to see number two and three! *knight* Quote

Christian Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 The latest movie that I have seen is Scary Movie 4. Watched it at the local cinema with a few friends. Scary Movie 4 is funny, no doubt about that, and if you not already seen it than its time to do so. Even though that it is not as good as the first and the third(havent seen the second) is it a hell lot of fun if you like some quite perverse humor, and just generally hilarious stuff. Quote

Kikuichimonji Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 Watched Transporter 2 yesterday. The original Transporter was a great movie, but this one was over the top and at times very unbelievebale. Still, not too bad :-) Quote
The Hordesman Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 Laugh if you want- Im 18 and my first time seeing Pulp Fiction. Awesome! The greatest dialog Ive ever heard! It is rather macabre (come on, its a Tarantino movie) but the macabre scenes are humorous at some points. Oh Xwingyoda- Fat Bastard is scottish- sackpipe and kilt. ;-) Quote

"URGH!" ranks a close second *wacko* X-D Go see Jackie Brown if you liked Pulp Fiction! It's not as confusing the first time you see it, much more mature and drama ridden. Yet hilarious if it needs to be. And after that, get yourself an uncut version of Reservoir Dogs! It's worth it! Quote
Dino_Bot Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 I saw Scary Movie 4. Its not worth it, trust me, save your Bux! Quote

Sarg_Kulo Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 Jurassic Park, I'm reliving my childhood. I also just read the book, which was a very good read. Quote
xwingyoda Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 Oh boy it was a rather bad week for me >:-( First, I saw Silent Hill which COULD have been a good movie if it was shorter and if Gans did not overdo his effects !! It would have been great if he sticked a lot more to the video game feel, pretty scary at some point unlike the movie which is not scary at all and some of the too few "gore" scenes were actually funny X-D Oh well I guess I'm too used to the Classics of horror !! Then I just saw tonight M:I:III and I have to say that JJA is such an overated director !! Oh boy this movie sucks !! The actions scenes were too fast (which have a tendency to brake the action effect), some scenes arre just ridiculously funny, the story is bad and has no sense whatsoever, the score is just hoprrible... At least there were some good scenes (especially Rome ;-) ) and Ving has some good remarks as usual hehe After Lost and MI3, JJA definitly mad my crap list :-| Sleep on !! *yoda* Quote
The Hordesman Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 V for Vendetta. Grandeur, though I think the book is even better (better than good is nice!) *y* Quote
rhymer Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 I saw Scary Movie 4. Its not worth it, trust me, save your Bux! Now I wouldnt say that. It had its funny moments. Btw Scary Movie 4 was the last movie I saw. Quote

Was it really that bad? I enjoyed the first two, and was looking forward to seeing the third, but now I'm not so sure... 8-| Anyway, I watched X2 again. Now I really can't wait for the third. X-D BTW Lost Viking, what is the RV? Quote

MI3 is kind a mix of both with a lot ofCruse in it *wacko* I still suggest watching it though (just for the Rome scene) and the fun dialogues !! And lets hope the 4th opus is mad by David Fincher !! (who was suppose to do the third at the vry beginning of the project) ;-) *yoda* Quote
