Legorski Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 *Warning* There are many pictures! *Warning* I found a really cool idea while building a top for the MocAthalon going on, on MocPages. You might have already seen these but if not enjoy! 8D I'll start of with the "base" top, and then move on to the others. Here it is! The "whatever-call-them-curvy-1x2x2-or-whatnot-bricks" or as bricklink calls them Brick, Modified 1 x 2 x 1 1/3 with Curved Top Were awesome for tops, and looker even awesomerer when evenly lined up. The Blank head here represents the head you would choose and put, and the rest of the part can be changed in shape or color in accordance to the body of the minfig. This side view shows the "topiness" of the top. The "blank" design. Spinning Shot! Yes it does spin! Oh yah, as you can see the picture got sorta dark, when I turn the flash (flash in a controlled environment = awesome pics!) on, this happened: Yes the top was spinning, I check, twice. ( XD ) Look at the axle, its tilted, meaning I'm a magician, or the top is spinning. So am I a magician? Moving on... This would be the minifig this top is based of: Black, with light bley details, ..... Time for the JokerTop! Yah! All the little children will want one of these if they see them! So all you AFOL's, beware, show not this to your children.... XD The Front of the JokerTop, Yes I know my Joker has lost some paint chips, I will have to hurt my brother someday, someday.... The design of the JokerTop, It mimics the blue-red pattern of the body, also adding those four "golden" bells hanging from his neck. Yes the JokerTop also spins! Look he's laughing! He likes spinning, but not for long! *barf* If you look closely you can see that the JokerTop makes a really cool purple (Lego's Purple!) when It spins, you see it a lot more in real life, but I'm happy that you see it at all in the pics! XD The Joker Minifig, !!!!!! Yes I can see the face is a bit out of focus, but this confuses me, The small pic on Flickr is all good, but the medium, well.. blurry like above. Anyway.... Don't you just love this guy! 8D ARRRR! I be a Pirate! And a Top! I be a PirateTop! Yes my next top is the PirateTop! Front View: Here bee'est the patt'rn I have red lines for the suit I wear (Because I be cool!), and gold "buttons" at the ends! ARRRRR! Do you like my Top? Well if not walk the plank! ARRRR! I be spinning! I like it! I like it! Look at me grin!, Wiat I'm gett'in dizzy! ARRRHHH! This be me before my Top Transformation! You like! No again, Make him walk the plank! ARRRR! You'll remember Brickbeard now! See ya in Davy Jones' Loka! Har, Har, Har! And Finally.... The VikingTop! He is mean, angry, and ready to spin! XD His pattern is that of metallic colors, mixxed together to look like chain mill! Toughness overwhelming! This pattern has the second ability of looking like those Viking shield patterns, the one with lines, sorta like the one of the Viking Longboat Sail. Do you get what I mean.... ???? Look he's spinning, horns, toughness, chain mill looking Top and all! I does look like chain mill right? This be the tough figgy this is all based of, Ain't he just tough? He could probably eat you alive if you were his size or vice versa. Just like the Joker, the face is blurry, and just like before the small version is fine, Well thats all the Top's, Time for a group shot! And with their bodies: Now for a survey, Lets see what everyone thinks about their new Top's as replacements for bodies! First we'll have the Blank dude, Wait does this guy even have thoughts or feeling, he isn't responding, Oh well. Second we'll ask the Joker, "I want my body back! All I can do in a Top is spin and spin! No body wants to hire a Joker that can only spin!" Ummmm... Sorry no refunds! Moving Along! Now Mr. Brickbeard. "It's Captain Brickbeard to you! ARRRRR!" "I love this new, whatever you call 'em! I'm finally out of that useless body! Having a peg-leg, hook and eye-patch is so overrated, Now I'm gett'in rid of tem! Wait! No! I still have an eye-patch! Curse You! ARRRR!" "Run before he gets you! AHHHH!" Finally we have the Viking, He seems angry, you all right? "*grump*" I think he's angry. "*grump*" First Brickbeard, Now this guy, My job stinks. You like? 8D Quote
Jar Jar Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 Very clever idea! I especially the Jokertop! Is it possible to make the sides of the top round? Quote
not-in-use-anymore Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Thanks, I used this idea, but made a larger one for hagrid. Quote
Legorski Posted February 17, 2010 Author Posted February 17, 2010 Very clever idea! I especially the Jokertop! Is it possible to make the sides of the top round? Probably, I would have to dive into this idea more to find out. I'm planning on making more, but I think I'll stay with the design I have now. 8D Quote
CMP Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 I'm so making a king one. Could you give us some instructoin in LDD or something? Quote

LuxorV Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Very clever and creative design, Legorski! I love the variety of models you made For how long can they spin, and which has the highest endurance? LuxorV Quote
Legorski Posted February 17, 2010 Author Posted February 17, 2010 I'm so making a king one. Could you give us some instructoin in LDD or something? I'm not making instructions (I don't use or have LDD or etc.), If you can't tell how its made, I can't help. Sorry 8D I think you just created a new fad! Hopefully. XD Very clever and creative design, Legorski! I love the variety of models you made For how long can they spin, and which has the highest endurance? LuxorV Thanks, they each spin for apx. 10-15 secs depending on how well you spin them and they're overall structural build. For example the pirate head is head on by a mere 1/2 stud because of the Epaulette, causing the head to occasionally fall off, and when you spin it you have to be careful to not give to much force or the head will fly off. The basic top has the most endurance, no minifig head ware to cause obstructions. The Joker is the most fun to play with and the viking, well he's just shiny. XD Quote
Peppermint_M Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Those are so cool! Simple but enjoyable, just as Lego should be. Quote
Zorbas Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Cool idea and excellently executed Legorski! The purple effect the one with the jester produces is impressive. The viking one really reminds me of a whirling dervish. Nice work! Quote
prateek Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 Oh the memories... Some kid lost my Dragoon in the snow Quote
