lightningtiger Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 Since we are getting big trucks this year, I thought why not a small parcel truck ! So here is my W.I.P. Toll Ipec Truck ! I'm going to be sticker-ing this one for sure (otherwise how will you know it's a Toll Ipec, right ?), but the hard part is the back doors - this is the other reason it's a W.I.P. Any advice .....I would be very happy and thankful if ideas could be floated because I'm stumped ! Comments are welcome too ! I'm a conformist! ! P.S. I have been trying to find a small picture of one of these trucks - only big ones, ah well as soon as I sticker this one you'll see. Quote
prateek Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 This is really nice! I like the small container on the back, it makes it cute Quote

Either you could do something like THIS or perhaps some of the 3x5 doors from the lage vehicles in the 70's; they were pretty common so shoul be reasonably priced on bricklink. Peter BTW nice truck, and I'm sure the stickers will finish it off realy nicely. Quote
lightningtiger Posted February 14, 2010 Author Posted February 14, 2010 Thanks 'prateek' and 'peterab' for your comments - I will consider your idea 'peterab' - which I'll try once I'm finished the Mensland store. I'm a conformist! ! Quote
lightningtiger Posted February 16, 2010 Author Posted February 16, 2010 I haven't done the back doors yet, but I have done the stickers ! I hope to have those doors done in a few days. Comments as usual are very welcome ! I'm a conformist! ! Quote
Dennimator Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 It looks pretty good. I´m not really a fan of TLG´s car style, however you have captured it very well and it looks almost like a real set. It looks a little short though, you might want to consider making it 2 studs longer. As for the door, why not use the technique I used in my Renault Kangoo postal van MOC? Quote
lightningtiger Posted February 16, 2010 Author Posted February 16, 2010 Thanks for the comments 'Demminator' ! There are two ways I can go door wise - a pair of openning outward ones or a lift up down to simuate a roller door type (only saw a mid-size Toll Ipec truck today with one). I'm a conformist! ! Quote
ACCURATEin Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 Stickers always make MOCs more official. Nice work!~ Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 (edited) That's really a great City MOC, lightningtiger! I really it! You're absolutely right: big trucks are nice - but we even want small ones. But now to your MOC: It looks absolutely realisitc! I really like that you included car doors and stickers and that it is not bigger than six wide! Only one idea for improvement (then your MOC would be really awesome): you should add some doors to the back of the truck/container, adding one minifig, a pushcart or pallette joe and some cargo stuff. Otherwise it's perfect! Very well done! Klaus-Dieter Edited February 16, 2010 by Klaus-Dieter Quote
lightningtiger Posted February 16, 2010 Author Posted February 16, 2010 Thanks 'ACCURATEin' and 'Klaus-Dieter' for your comments - cool I didn't know my little truck is so well liked. Today I will be making the doors, plus cargo, a driver and hand stack trolley with an attachment to carry it on the truck. I'm a conformist! ! Quote
lightningtiger Posted February 17, 2010 Author Posted February 17, 2010 See what you all think of these doors okay ! Comments very welcome ! I'm a conformist! ! Quote
jonwil Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Nice job on the truck. I would suggest the 1 x 3 x 4 doors (like the car doors only taller) in yellow for the back doors but what you did looks good too. Quote

Thanks 'jonwil' for your comment - but I find the 4 high doors not tall enough, so this was the best solution to this problem. I'm a conformist! ! Quote
peterab Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 See what you all think of these doors okay !Comments very welcome ! I'm a conformist! ! I quite like the doors, but the handles look too big. Perhaps if you moved them to the bottom edge they could double as steps. Peter Quote

Perhaps if you moved them to the bottom edge they could double as steps.Peter Sorry Peter but due to the fact on a 2x1 space in the doors where the handles go and the hinges include a 2x1 double clip plate modified, those old light bluey grey handles will do. Thanks for commenting - I'm a conformist! ! Quote
Ras 74 Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Glad I came late into this thread to see it fully done It is a very good truck you created! Do you have any reference picture to show us? The doors looks a little bulky when they are opened. But since they look very good closed, and the design craves it, it is all good. The design of the doors with the handles is very nice, me like a lot! Overall it is, as said before, very cute and very nice model of those smaller parcel trucks/vans. Quote
Prime Brick Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 (edited) I tried to make a truck once, but it was Yours however, is awsome Edited February 17, 2010 by Prime Brick Quote
lightningtiger Posted February 17, 2010 Author Posted February 17, 2010 Thank you 'Ras 74' and 'Prime Brick' for those kind words. I had to search though about 10 kg's of lego to find all the door components, I had a few ideas and these were pieces that just came together just right. Besides I will be doing a Toll Ipec Depot to go with a cargo train to be done in SAR/AN colours, also since I have quite a bit of orange vehicle components - TNT will be joining Toll Ipec on the road soon. I'm going to be a busy tiger eh ? I'm a conformist! !!! Quote
Lumpy03 Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Really nice, do you have the LDD file ? Quote
lightningtiger Posted February 17, 2010 Author Posted February 17, 2010 Really nice, do you have the LDD file ? :classic No sorry I don't have an LDD file, as this was just scratch built. The front end of the truck is mostly the 3179 lighting repair truck with a very simple rear box construction. Thanks 'Lumpy03' for the comment anyway and I'm a conformist! ! Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 (edited) Sorry lightningtiger, but I have to agree concerning what jonwil and peterab already mentioned: the handles on the doors are too big. From the back the doors look excellent but when you look at them from the side they are too massive. So I, too, would give you the advise to use the doors used in the new Lego Truck - although I totally agree with you that they should be one brick taller. lightningtiger Posted February 18, 2010 Author Posted February 18, 2010 Thanks 'Klaus-Dieter' for your comment, sadly I only have white ones of these doors and when the Lego truck comes out that will be my that will be my overnight express truck for Toll Ipec - the right colours - good old yellow cabs as my dad called them on the CB radio in his trucking days. I guess I can try and order some yellow doors - I'm a conformist! !!! Quote
Lumpy03 Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 This kind of truck is missing in the City range... It could be interesting for Lego to make more partnerships with brands like DHL, COCA COLA, PEPSI ... Quote
