5150 Lego Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Hopfully i posted this in the proper place. I've noticed that quite a few people on brickshelf (espeacially the larger more complicated models) are done using a cad type software. Some even have full instructions and everything. I was curious if anyone knows if this is custom software, or somthing readily availible. I can defently see this being usfull in an upcoming prodject of mine. Excuse me if the answer is a simple one. I don't have much computer knowledge when it comes to software and stuff. Thanks guys. Brandon. Quote
Yuppley Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 MLCAD, LDRAW, LDD, those are the most common types of Lego cads. It is readily available, for LDD go to lego.com's factory, and search for MLCAD as Mike's Lego Cad in google, and after installed, I think thats what LDraw is (Haven't used it in a while) Quote
snefroe Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 http://www.ldraw.org/ this will lead the way. follow the instructions, download what needs to be downloaded and you'll be ok Quote

The problem's not with the software, though, it's just that I'm totally incompetent when it comes to using that type of software. And that I'm absolutely untalented concerning designing stuff doesn't help, either. The programs look pretty easy to use, though. So, if you're the complete opposite of me you should indeed be fine Quote
Ickelpete Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 LDD is slightly easier to use but it is limited to the bricks available in the lego factory program. mlcad/ldraw have virtually every piece of lego TLC have ever produced if you are prepared to search the internet for them. It also helps if you have some 3D cad experience. Check Both out!! Quote
5150 Lego Posted February 9, 2006 Author Posted February 9, 2006 Thanks for your help everyone! I'll check them allout, and see what i like best. My dad does cad for a living, so i can always go to him if i need some help. Quote

dunamis Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 LDView is a program that allows you to render your drawing in 3-D. It is pretty cool and allows you to rotate and zoom your drawing. I believe you can get it at ldraw.org as well. Quote
