Tips on how to turn a boring historically accurate Viking kingdom, to an inaccurate, magical Viking clan!

Tip 1: Headgear

Whether your Vikings are wearing a accurate wingless dwarf helmet, a normal castle helmet, or the brickforge viking helmet, or the LEGO standard horn helmet, it might get boring for all you vikings to have the same kinds of helmets. Solution, a mixture of helmets. Some horned, some not horned, the winged dwarf helmets, and the Batlord helmet.

Edit: And add different horn types.

Tip 2: Weapons

Axes, KKII swords, short swords, chrome swords, spears, bows, and medieval fire grenades? Yes, even though it isn't accurate, fire grenades for you viking are awesome!

Also, those huge disk shields work well. And the classic castle round shield.

Tip 3: Torso's

You can't go wrong with chainmail armor. The medieval market peasant torso also work, and so do some pirate torso's.

Tip 4: Heads and beards

Any head with a beard or mustache is good. As for beard pieces, any one is good.

Tip 5: Special units

Berserks are a given, so include them in your army. You should add magical warriors.

Follow these tips, and your viking army shall thrive

Ooooh-kay...

While the thread is somewhat interesting, I'm curious as to why you posted it. Has this been an on-going problem for people, not knowing how to make a viking town?

And since I'm never one to shy away from hijacking a thread to plug my own MOCs: how does this fit with your suggestions?

Hi, I was wandering, what is a medieval fire grenade? Plus i think your tips are totally right, except, Vikings didnt use bows because they thought it was cowardly. :knight:

Emperor Claudius Rome is writing about a fantasy viking horde so I'm not sure if this is what he meant, but the medieval equivalence to a grenade were clay pots filled with Greek fire.

And since ECR is writing about a fantasy horde there isn't any right or wrong, but for your interest I can tell that the real Vikings did use bows. A number of arrow heads has been found at Viking sites and the many histories tells about bow firing heroes as well. The most common weapon was however the spear.

Ok thanks ^ :classic: But after seeing that wikipedia i thought how would you make that in lego (fire grenades) anyone got any ideas? In addition does anyone have any tips on building viking transport because I've a small horde yet it seems empty without a means of locomotion.

I dunno, maybe an all brown minifig head could work.

As for transportation I say horses and ships. But if you want to "spice" it up I suggest looking at all the crazy vehicles LEGO has produced during the latest years and find some inspiration from those

well for a grenade i was thinking a 1x1 round brick with one of the new fire pieces sticking out of it. For a transport, I would suggest a longboat, the most common way of transportation. Also there are their feet, which was common upon land (naturally); There is evidence of use of horses as well, but i dont think it was that common. Good luck with your horde!

I made my grenades with the technique ball piece and a 1x1 stud on top.

And for land transport, I suggest chariots, like so.

Unless they're going across rocky or icy terrain, then I suggest on their feet, or ox pulled carts with skis.

Nice town! And I just posted this because I've been in an epic viking mood!

Well...? They are all excellent ideas! So, show us some pictures! :classic:
