sverre Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Just wanted to say hi to all the AFOLs in this great forum. I just got back to building after a 20yrs break. Loving it more than ever. Wish I got back earlier, but never to late I guess :) Bought a few of the new studless sets. Actually more than a few.. haha. I´m really loving the PF parts. Always dream´t about RCing my sets when I was a kid. The studless building still takes some getting used to, but just gotta build some more to get the hang of it. Have rebuildt some of my oldskool sets, and this really brings me back. Good times! Gotta do some parts washing though. Some are seriously dusty. Rebuildt the truck from 8090 last night, and snapped a quick pic after some play. Happy building all. Quote
DLuders Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 Yes, Lego Technic has come a long way from the Year-1982 Universal Set #8090 (which you have pictured next to the #8258 Crane Truck). See Blakbird's review of the #8090 set variants on the Technicopedia website http://www.ericalbrecht.com/technic/8090.html . Quote
sverre Posted February 5, 2010 Author Posted February 5, 2010 Yes indeed. Thanks for the link to the 8090 review. Great stuff! Eric mentions that when the suspension on the truck is compressed it might cause the drive axle to separate from the u-joint. This can easily be fixed by sliding the 8 tooth cog about two mill forward. Then the axle and the 8 tooth cog slides freely when the suspension compresses. I´ve heavily modified the 8090 truck tonight, and will try to add PF´s to it tomorrow. Will upload a pic if I succeed. The red model it the left of the pic is a modified 8030 with 4 wheel steering and suspension on all wheels, that I built when I was ten. Need to order a bunch of the new connector pins to replace the old type in these sets. They are a pain to build with compared. Quote
sverre Posted February 5, 2010 Author Posted February 5, 2010 Two quick pics of my modified 8090 truck. No success with PFing it yet. Quote
zyrex Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 Nice, do I see some suspension parts there? Quote
Enilder Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 Welcome back. I've also had 10+year break and got back into it less than 3 months ago. I was more into space theme and all but not anymore. Good to be back! Quote
sverre Posted February 5, 2010 Author Posted February 5, 2010 Nice, do I see some suspension parts there? Thanks. There are rear suspension. Two of the old gray soft ones, so it´s quite active. Especially with the bed on. More weight. Quote
