How does this thingie work?

So now that I'm pretty much finished with two of the parts of my big PF project, although they are completely unrelated, I decided I might want to start on a third, but I want to incorporate one of these:

I know that somehow when you turn an axle in the back end the silver arm thing extends out, but I'd really like it if someone had pictures of how it's working on the inside.

wow i was really cautious when i first heard the clutch kicked in. i was scared of breaking it so i never really extended all the way out or in. i think i can fully extend or retract now since i know that clutch is doing all the work to prevent any damages. thanks a lot! :)
