YouKnowMe Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 Dear EB'ers, I have a question for you. And since it is a pretty lego-related question, I guess this is the best place to post it Here goes. So, went to legoland Billund about 4 years ago. The day we were there there was this special "action". Let me explain. When I entered a store ( I think it was close to the entrance) I saw about 5 "boxes" placed next to eacother, so not spread in the store. Now the special thing was: these boxes were filled with bags from random sets (including star wars sets) , but literary filled with bags. For about 50 euros you were allowed to open bags and take any parts you wanted to fill your own box. I remember that it was the best day of my life and i had so much fun picking out pieces, because there was an "infinite" amount of lego Has anyone seen the same? Or has this happened to anyone else? Do you know if they're doing this again? I'm going to go to legoland Billund again this summer, I hope someone can tell me if they are having such an action again ... For the persons who don't believe me, i think i might be able to find some pictures. Thanks in advance, Youknowme Quote
Dennimator Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 Yeah, I did this too 2 years ago. Stupid lil´me (back then I was kinda young) didn´t take all the sandtroopers that were there... However, when Merlin bought the park from TLG around 1 year ago, they removed the box. So it´s not there anymore... Quote
CopMike Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 Like this ?: Picture taken by KimT. It´s from Eurobricks first ever event, in 2005 in Billund, and it´s Ras to the right in the picture. This used to happen each year until Merlin bought the parks, then it stopped . Quote

This used to happen each year until Merlin bought the parks, then it stopped . Seriously, we need to convince them to do it again. It´s a gold mine for both them and us! Unless the boss for Merlin is an AFOL... You´re an Ambassador and you´re friends with the Event Admin, can´t you guys convince them? Quote

It was meant to be a little but funny in way ... It's just that I think it's really too bad that they got rid of such a nice event. Btw, is EB the cause of this event or did TLG spontaneously come up with it? And thanks for the info, but I guess any other merlin center wont have the event ... I hope you might take care of something, but I guess you won't after this post... Quote

It was not an "event", it was a way for TLG to get rid off stuff they overproduced and get paid for it. When Merlin bought the parks from TLG they didn´t continue to do this. I don´t know the exact reason more than the above mentioned split. That effected the parks Model Builders also, because now they have to order pieces from another company, TLG, and pay more and have lesser options. Quote

Dennimator Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 That's a shame ... Indeed.. When I heard this about half a year ago I was kinda in shock too.. Someone should really teach Merlins bosses a lesson.. Quote
YouKnowMe Posted January 24, 2010 Author Posted January 24, 2010 Can't you really work something out copmike? That was the best thing about the whole park... Well, maybe not, but it was fantastic Quote

He may be an Ambassador, but he has no contact with Merlin (I think). besides, there must´ve been a reason Merlin stopped doing this. I had actully thought Lego would have been the one who pulled it. I mean, merlin would be crazy to pull it, as its such a crazy seller. Lego, however, may have decided to keep it as their own bussiness. Im not sure though Quote
Whittleberry Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 Then how exactly does LEGO get rid of excess stock now? Excess parts could be sent to LEGO Stores to be sold in PABs (although that's a sort of small-scale way to sell it) but what about bagged parts? Quote
ILikePi Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 (edited) Then how exactly does LEGO get rid of excess stock now? Excess parts could be sent to LEGO Stores to be sold in PABs (although that's a sort of small-scale way to sell it) but what about bagged parts?I'm not completely sure, but one way may be through PAB grab bags in LEGO Stores (different than the PAB walls). They're $8 USD bags that weigh exactly one pound, and usually have parts from some sets and some random pieces. I saw one with an almost complete Tiny Turbo racer (just no wheels), which is worth $5 alone! Also, if you look in this Flickr discussion, someone found the parts to a whole Winter Toy Shop distributed in between three bags - that's $24 for a $60 set! EDIT: Forgot the link! Edited January 26, 2010 by ILikePi Quote
