Whup Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Hi guys, I've got a 6211 (new in sealed box) Star Destroyer for sale. I bought a pair of them years ago with the intention of making a Super Star Destroyer, but it was a stupid idea since I never got around to it. I did at least open and build one of them. Before I go the eBay route I thought I'd mention it here on the slight chance anyone local (Adelaide) would be interested. That way we could make the sale in person without anyone having to transfer me money and cross their fingers. I was hoping to get about $250AU for it; if that's unreasonable please let me know what you'd be happy with. Less than what they seem to go for on eBay, but a bit more than I paid for it originally. Cheers,

Cheers, Go the ebay route, you'll get more Adelaide people (than the 9 or 10 of us here) and I just looked on ebay and of the completed listing 2 sold for $300 with only 30 and 25 hits respectively so I doubt it would be up there for more than a couple days if you listed it buy it now at $299.99 (saves fees I think keeping it less than $300) you'll be laughing. You could possibly even get more if you want. Pretty decent offer of you though.

You're right regarding eBay, but it was so easy to make a quick post on the very slight chance its what somebody is after . You never know, it might have been just what one of the other Aussies was looking for! I think I better dig out the box and take some photos for eBay though! Which reminds me; when people say 'Mint in Sealed Box' are they referring to the contents being mint, or are they actually expecting the box to be perfect condition too? I've just dug the box out and had a look - its almost perfect, but with the type of scuffing along a couple of edges you'd expect with something that gets transported in contact with other boxes... I'm not sure how well you guys all know each other, but it had occured to me that one of the better known Adelaidian's might have been happy to act as some kind of escrow service too... not sure if its worth that much trouble, but you never know.

'Mint in Sealed Box' (MISB) means that the box is still sealed. If the box is opened but the contents are still in their plastic bags, it´s MIB (Mint in Box). No matter how crushed the box is, as long as it´s sealed, it´s MISB...
MicroM Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 "What is MISB?" - That was the most asked question I got when I list items through eBay. I would just say that the box has "Some minor shelf wear", that should just about cover it. eBay is a good way to go, just be prepared for the logistics of getting boxes to ship items in, taking to the post office, and getting your info right so that the postage calculator gives a decent estimate that will cover the actual cost. Oh yeah and the fees
Whup Posted January 22, 2010 Author Posted January 22, 2010 Thanks for the advice guys! I've never had much to do with eBay - after a quick look on the site I couldn't figure out how much it will cost to sell something around about that price, but I'll have a better look later. It never occured to me that I'd have to find a box to post it in...
MicroM Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Thanks for the advice guys!I've never had much to do with eBay - after a quick look on the site I couldn't figure out how much it will cost to sell something around about that price, but I'll have a better look later. It never occured to me that I'd have to find a box to post it in... Maybe around $20 (assuming a $300 sale price), including eBay fees (assume you post 1 pic) and the winner pays by PayPal. Yes the boxing is quite the logistics, I literally trawled through a cardboard "dumpster" at the local shopping centre to find a good sized box for the larger kits I mailed out. Good luck
d00dz Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 (edited) If you sell it at $300 with a starting bid of $300 it will cost you: $2.50 Listing fee $10.13 Final value fee $8.10 Paypal fee (Depending on shipping cost) As paypal fees incorporates shipping. If you start at 99cents, the listing fee will be 30cents. The higher it ends at the slightly more fee you'll pay. For shipping use Registered Post with insurance up to the final bid value (this ensures that if anything happens you wont be liable and everything is covered. This would be a must for a big item. Also might want to look at courier quote at this place: http://www.interparcel.com.au/quote/ Type in "ebayparcel" under discount to get a 10% discount. Note: You need to add 10% GST to final value it is shown. Hope this helps you. I would concider buying it but ive spent wayyy too much on lego lately. Edited January 22, 2010 by d00dz
Whup Posted January 24, 2010 Author Posted January 24, 2010 Been trying to get on and post for the past day - everytime I login ready to go something interrupts me... Thanks so much for all the great advice though - I had no idea what to expect in terms of eBay fees, but based on those figures its cheaper than I though! I knew I'd have to estimate a shipping cost and had planned to include registered post and insurance. I assume most people who are forking out several hundred dollars for Lego are also happy to pay a few dollars more to cover themselves if something goes wrong... I'll leave it on the board here for a few more days before going the eBay route, but I think that's what I'm going to have to do! Thanks again for your advice and help!
