As I failed to find any discussion topic about the Ratchet & Clank games, and it being one of my favorite game series, I decided to post a topic for it myself. So anything about Ratchet & Clank can be put here.

Overview of R&C Video Games

PS2 & PS3:

  • Ratchet & Clank: Drek's Demise (PS2)
  • Ratchet & Clank 2: Going Commando (PS2)
  • Ratchet & Clank 3: Up Your Arsenal (PS2)
  • Ratchet: Gladiator (PS2)
  • Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction (PS3)
  • Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty (PS3)
  • Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time (PS3)

PSP:

These games also were available for the PS2, but they originally were made for the PSP.

  • Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters
  • Secret Agent Clank

Mobile Phone:

There also was a game for the mobile phone available a time back.

  • Ratchet & Clank: Going Mobile
  • Ratchet & Clank: Clone Home (never released)

This information has not been copied from another website. All I did was remember what I have read the past time, and what I know about the games and wrote it on here myself.

Let's start the discussion!

I liked playing the earlier PS2 games. Drek's Demise was my favorite one.

(P.S.- JimButcher is adjudicating in Jedi Duels, if you didn't notice.)

I loved the first one IMO it was the best R&C they made. Gladiator was a different change and had a great multiplayer but it couldnt compare to the first one.

Pfft, the first one was horrible, it was good to play to start with, but trying to go back is impossible the lack of strafing makes it impossible.

Gladiator is the best for weapon upgrades, the ability to use multiple money upgrades made it easy to get bucks of money, and that big gun was the best.

UYA had the best RYNO, the one in ACIT is like a gen y chick, looks good but not much use other than looking nice.

The ones on the psp were the worst, they were just horrible looking and not as good, especially with not having a second stick to use.

I have the full collection, even have QFB on disk.

And ok heres something for you, in an interview before ACIT was released they said they would see how GoW collection does, and if sony is into it and will help them Insomniac might to a collection and put all the ps2 games onto a ps3 games collection.

Also they have out action figures for sale in the USA, including ratchet with clank, Quark, Nefarious, Scrunch, and a zoni.

Gladiator aka Deadlocked, yes?

I personally liked that one (the more FPS-y one), but the 1st one remains the best, as oft happens with videogames.

AS my friend put it, "Ratchet and Clank is a great game to look at and pretty fun to play."

R&C is a fun series of games. I have played R&C 1-3, Size Matters, and Tools of Destruction, and I liked all of them. They are a great example of modern-day platforming/action games. Up Your Arsenal is probably my favorite due to the great weapons selection. ToD was good too, but the weapons selection was a bit lacking in my opinion. I'm still planning on playing Crack in Time and Secret Agent Clank, and maybe Quest for Booty if it doesn't cost much/anything. I didn't like the first one too much, but that's because I played it after #2 and #3 and found the gameplay to be frustrating. And Size Matters was kinda short compared to the other games, but it was pretty good for a PSP game. The humor of the series doesn't always appeal to me as it is kinda immature.

Am I the only who feels that R&C is a rip-off of Jak & Daxter? J&D always seems to be more mature and have better story, better animation, and more original gameplay to me. :sceptic:

BTW, you might want to mention in the first post that the PSP games have been released for the PS2 as well.

That was there from the beginning already.

I have never played Jak & Daxter before, but maybe that's because Ratchet & Clank (PS2) games are rated 3+ and Jak & Daxter 12+?

I can understand why Ratchet & Clank may sometimes have immature stuff, then. I think I gotta try Jak & Daxter sometime soon. And also I didn't play R&C in order, I played 3 first, then 1 and then 2...

Lol, no its just because he has no idea what he is talking about, the simple fact of the matter is when both games first come out the makers of both games worked side by side, which is why in the early games you can see them in each others games, like there was a Jak outfit in one of the ratchet and clank games.

Insomniac

Since working together in the same building on the Universal Interactive Studios backlot, Naughty Dog and Insomniac Games have had a close relationship. Producer Mark Cerny has worked extensively with both companies. They have made similar types of games. For example, in the late 1990s, Naughty Dog's Crash Bandicoot series and Insomniac's Spyro the Dragon series both competed on the PlayStation as character-heavy platforming games with imaginative environments. With the release of the PlayStation 2, the two series were left in Universal's (now Activision) hands, and both developers continued in friendly competition after the creation of their new flagship franchises (Jak and Daxter and Ratchet and Clank, respectively).

I actually do know what I'm talking about, thank you very much. :hmpf: We already had a conversation about Insomniac and Naughty Dog working together, remember?

My question was whether or not others share my feeling of R&C being just a kid-friendly version of J&D rather than a stand-alone game, no matter what the development background is.

No need to be such a know-it-all. :sadnew: Besides, last time I checked, Wikipedia isn't the best source to link to.

@ General Magma: I can definitely advise you to try J&D! It's my favorite game saga of all time!

I got the first three games. The fourth one on the other hand (for witch I only played a demo of) did not seem like a Ratchet & Clank game it was more like a war game (to me any ways). And I do have odd question: when did the first game get a sub title?

Subtitle? Do you mean the text that appears when they talk? (When subtitles is ON)

And did you mean Gladiator/Deadlocked with "fourth"?

i've played (and loved) every single game in the series except Crack In Time. prolly my favorite game series ever.

the best one in the series was, IMO, Up Your Arsenal, but it's such an incredibly hard decision.

i can't wait to get around to Crack In Time, which i have purchased but just haven't had time to play yet. where do you guys think it falls compared to the others?

Im a huge fan, but i think ACIT was pretty weak, it lacked humour, it had its moments, the moons where nice, but once you got the bolt or Zoni or upgrade they were useless, which serverly took away from replay value especially in challenge mode.

Some of the jumping and stuff on the moons was just behind anal so too some of clanks puzzle stuff.

The customisible weapons were nice, but only 3 was too little, gladiator is still the best for weapons.

The story was good, and and it had its moments, it would have been better if Quark had of been in it, ToD is still the best for humour.

The Lombax hover shoes is by far the best gadget, but suckful you lose them in challenge mode.

The RYNO is by far the single worst version, as my friend said, its like a gen y chick, looks good but useless, far too show off and very little effect, or like I say its a weapon you would expect to see in a movie made by McG or Bay, UYA is still the best, but i preferred the big gun on gladiator.

The clank fights is by far the best in the series, he is more of a fighter and less useless then in other games.

The ending was good will also a disappointment.

Supposedly you can find out what is up with Miss Apogee, but I have clocked the game 10 times and still not found out what happens.

There was officially a hidden cheat announced yesterday for a new skin.

Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time Unlockable: Bancho Ratchet Skin

Unlock the Bancho Ratchet Skin by entering this code at the pause menu: UP, RIGHT, DOWN, LEFT, TRIANGLE, SQUARE, X, CIRCLE, R3.
