crawej21 Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 I just received my 8041 in the mail yesterday and have now built both models for it. I've never really done a review or anything, but I must say that this was a pretty good model actually. The main model of the race truck looks nice enough and the cab tilting is a nice feature. The parts of note were a differential and some body panels that I haven't seen at least. I know there was talk on a different post about this one having instructions for inserting power functions but that isn't the case. While it could be done fairly easily there are no instructions to do it. I'm actually more excited about the b model race car. Having just come back to lego recently I didn't really have a technic car or the parts to build one. This car looks beautiful when completed. It has a really low roof and reminds me of the new Dodge Charger. The V8 is up front with a long driveshaft to the back making it a rear wheel drive. I have never liked putting the stickers on lego, but this is the closet I have ever come to doing so. With the large body panels and actually really well designed stickers it would really look good with them on. I tried finding my camera last night, but no look so I will post up pics when I find it. I would have to give this model an 8/10 Quote
tomacwhite Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 Thanks for the write up, mine is on its way and I am looking forward to building it. The Power Function thing is really odd. After reading the description in the USA catalogue it's definitely not a typo as it specifically mentions "bringing the truck to life", so perhaps Lego will release instructions shortly. I am surprised there is nothing in the instructions about it though. What about on the box? Does it say anything there? Some photos would be great if you can find your camera! :) Quote
Anio Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 I know there was talk on a different post about this one having instructions for inserting power functions but that isn't the case. And so, it seems I was right ! ^^ Time will tell. Quote
Jetro Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Thanks for the confirmation I'll wait and see the inventory before I say anything more about this model... Quote
Enilder Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 I just placed on order at LEGO store along with 2 other items, which are backordered. It should be here in 3~5 business days!!! :) Quote
DLuders Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 The 2010 limited-edition Lego Technic Set #8041 (Race Truck) is described at http://shop.lego.com/product/?p=8041&L...7&ShipTo=US . It definitely does not have any Power Functions motors -- it is "brought to life" by rolling it on the floor and seeing the engine pistons go up and down. Neither Lego Customer Service nor Peeron has any instructions or inventory posted yet. Quote

I don't think it's going to be too difficult to motorize that ($29.99). Looking forward to it! Quote
DLuders Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 (edited) TechnicBricks Blogspot (http://www.technicbricks.blogspot.com/ ) just posted links to instructions for the 1H2010 models. There are now online building instructions for both the "A" (Main) and "B" (alternate) models for the new Lego Technic Sets 8045, 8046, 8047, 8048, 8049, and 8041. They have pictures of the various sets too to be able to see which one is which. Be patient with the downloads -- due to heavy traffic, the Lego computer server is very balky and it may take several attempts to download your file. Also, the 8049-2 and 8041-2 B-Model download links have two ZIP files that contain all three of the B-Models' instruction books. Edited January 9, 2010 by dluders Quote
tomacwhite Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 Mine arrived today, finally! It is strange that Power Functionality is mentioned in the 2010 catalogue, but there is no sign of it on the box or in the instructions. I can only assume it was either a) a typo during creation of the catalogue, or b) Lego will release official instructions later.. Quote

If one looks at the last page of the #8041 Race Truck's printed instruction Booklet #1 (Page 48), there is a picture of the #8258 Crane Truck with Power Functions. At first glance, the #8041 Race Truck and #8258 Crane Truck are similar in appearance. Maybe that's where the confusion got started. There doesn't seem to be any room for Power Functions elements in #8041 without building on a "sleeper cab" on the back of the truck, or having the battery pack toted on a TRAILER attached to the Race Truck. tomacwhite Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 (edited) I don't know how this could be confused with 8258: http://www.flickr.com/photos/martiger/4238189996/ To quote: "Bring your Race Truck to life with Power Function accessories" Edited January 11, 2010 by tomacwhite Quote

tomacwhite Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 There is nothing in the manual about it at all, its very strange. Quote

tomacwhite Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 Ahh OK, I'll let you know when I have built mine... :) Quote
Enilder Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Ahh OK, I'll let you know when I have built mine... :) getting mine tomorrow!!! excited!!! i was supposed to get it this Thursday but i am getting lucky. Quote
tomacwhite Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 I am building mine during lunch times at work. So far I've only had an hour or so on the build, and its good. It's quite a simple build, similar to the Snow Groomer from last year I suppose. It's nice though, and there is a decent amount of traditonal lego pieces too. well, the grid 2x1 pieces for the engine grill and radiator at the back (a nice touch). Quote

Jetro Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 To be quite honest, I'm waiting for the inventory to decide whether I like the truck or not.. Quote
Enilder Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 To be quite honest, I'm waiting for the inventory to decide whether I like the truck or not.. when you say inventory, you'd like to see the box itself in person? i am not sure how that's going to affect your decision as everything is listed on LEGO site and various other websites. do you mind if you clarify? it's not the best way to spend 60 bucks on 600 parts (10 parts/$) compared to other technic models with 10+ parts/$ but i really don't mind. i only buy technic and several cool looking cars from LEGO product lines do I don't spend money too "often" as far as i can tell up to this point. (7784, 8169, etc.) if you need some info on products, i can get some pictures for you if you want. i am getting mine today according to UPS track. Quote
Enilder Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 i got it but i dont know how i am supposed to open this without destroying the box...help? Quote
Blakbird Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 i got it but i dont know how i am supposed to open this without destroying the box...help? You can't open it without destroying the box. Most of the new boxes are this way. You can minimize damage by using a razor blade to cut the perforated circular arc along the back sides. Quote

You can minimize damage by using a razor blade to cut the perforated circular arc along the back sides. if you are talking about quarter circle part on both sides (8258), this one doesn't have any. i didn't destroy 8258 box. i simply opened two arcs toward outside (ripped) and it opened vertically. man i feel like an idiot for asking this question. hahaha anyways, i opened it and i accidentally cut portion of the flap inside. not that i will resell but i like everything in a good condition. :) Edited January 13, 2010 by Enilder Quote
RXBandit Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 crawej21, can you post some shots from rear-quarter and top-down angles please. i've been lookin everywhere to see how it'll look overall. my local Lego Store (in the Garden State Plaze, right over the Bridge in Jersey) has this truck and the Telescopic Handler for just $15. i'm really torn on which to get.
