Dear all, Crazy One here.

After seeing the recent film, 'Sherlock Holmes', I decided I wanted to make the full cast, but as always, one thing stopped me in my tracks, Holmes himself. I have no idea what I should use for his torso. I am making them in good old yellow skin, so is there any part that would work for him? Or will I have to do a rubbish Decal? Or maybe move to fleshie?

Thanks in advance my loyal followers!

Edit: Sorry for the typo in the subtitle, I am rushing out of the house.

Well,

there are over one thousand torso assemblies available on BrickLink, and you can't decide? Or don't have the time to browse them all?

I guess that every more formal dressed torso would do fine for the job. But something in tan colour would be also adequate, one would think. There is a pretty good minifigure already which comes quite close to Sherlock Holmes himself. It's Dr. Henry Jones from the Indiana Jones theme. :classic:

The torso itself has no skin colour, so you're free to use yellow or flesh head and hands. :classic:

EDIT: As I just saw, your Avatar Figure has exactly that torso. Maybe the choice was too obvious? Anyway I still think it would make an excellent Holmes. :classic:

Cheers,

~ Christopher

Ahh, yes, I should have said, I don't want to destroy my sig-fig. And the bow tie isn't really him IMO, I was looking for a slightly scruffier look. But I might use that for Watson. Thanks though.

Here's a good picture of a typical outfit from the new film:

He's wearing some sort of oddball colors - dusky purple jacket with vertical rainbow striped shirt? I don't think that there's any torso that'll match this precisely, or even closely, not even the ones that Legostein so kindly dug up.

However, in the scene at the tomb (which was obviously filmed on a chilly day, you can see their breaths in some shots), he's wearing a black jacket and, well, another crazy shirt, but a striped tie as well:

You might come close to replicating this by drawing a bit with sharpie on one of the black torsoes Legostein has found for you. You might even be able to use one as-is, although you'll have to color/paint a fedora black no matter what you do.

In any case, I wish you luck, and look forward to seeing your finished cast of characters.

Like Legostein showed you, the Harry Potter and Adventurers themes offer you a lot of options formal vintage men's wear. I don't think you have to match the clothes used in the movie exactly, just go more with the feeling of it and you'll be spot on.

... although you'll have to color/paint a fedora black no matter what you do.

There are black LEGO fedoras already, in the Indiana Jones "Shanghai Chase" set.

Now if you really want to make Sherlock Holmes. Pay no attention to Downey Jr's look. The real best Sherlock Holmes was Jeremy Brett in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (1984) series:

In Lego:

That more fits his style. Now as for the coat? I would recommend this MMCB Trenchcoat in Grey:

If Holmes is taking his Drugs or just staying in I would recommend:

Now for Watson I would recommend this for his Lectures suit:

For Holmes Hair I would reccommend the standard hair:

Now I wouldn't recommend Holmes wear the standard Top Hat, Try make him wear a variety of hats. However, Do not! Make him wear a Black Fedora/Trilby. He just wouldn't have worn it, They only put it in the movie because that fashion is coming back. I would try make Custom hats.

Now for Holmes face theres a few you could use, Firstly this:

For Watson I would recommend:

Its perfect for him.

But if your sadly going to go with the movie version...I'd use this:

You know, I might just have to make Old Holmes myself. Actually...I might make some Agatha Christie Poriot and Sherlock Holmes comics from the real Stories!
