When do you think the Adventurers theme takes place? Is there an offical time frame? Or is there a way to deduce it from what we know about this theme?

My guess, is it's in the 30s. Some of the vehicles look too advanced for the 20s to me. But then again, the Island Hopper looks too advanced for the 30s, also... or does it?

It really depends on why you need to know. Are you just asking out of curiosity, or is it for a MOC/MOD/comic/flick? Or something I've missed.

I've always considered Adventurers to be either modern (late 90s/2000's) or in the same time frame as Indiana Jones, the 1940s.

I concur. Post-WW1 and pre-WW2.

Let's see...

Zeppelins: Check!

Biplanes: Check!

Lack of modern technology: Check!

Looting Egyptian tombs: Check!

Nazis: Nope.

Looks like a good estimate to me.

How about some sets taking place in different time zones then others? Ever thought that? :sweet:

Yes, I know what you mean, but there wouldn't be that much of a time difference. Like maybe 2 or 3 years apart, which would be, (from Desert to Orient Expedition), about 7 years. So I would guess, 1930s-1940s.

Due to the design of the cars, I might move your decade shift back a few years, to the 1920's-1930s period. Although the villians are implied to be German (at least in the United States)

Indiana Jones spans pretty much the entire 20th century, though we've seen his adventures only from certain eras. None of the movies take place in the 1940s, though, although the last one (Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, set mostly in 1957, with the last scene taking place the following spring) does give us a little information about his activity in the '40s, and some of the books, comics and games do take place in the '40s. The three original movies, the TV series and the overwhelming majority of other materials (books, comics, games, etc.) take place in the '30s or earlier, though.

I've sometimes thought it'd be neat if LEGO were to release official Indiana Jones / Adventurers crossover sets, with Indy and Johnny Thunder teaming up for various adventures. I wonder whether Lucasfilm would go for it...

The cars could have been made earlier though! Who takes a brand shiny new car into the desert on an expedition? As for the nationalities of the villians, I'm no Adventurers expert but there's Baron von Barron, Senor Palomar, Mr Cunningham and others. They're just a whole bunch of different nationalities, and it's a classic action-film cliche to have the enemies very different from the heroes; think Indy vs. Nazis or Russians, or James Bond vs. le Chiffre, North Koreans and Afghans, to name a few. The fact one is German doesn't really have much to do with anything, although to a modern audience, a evil German with a strong accent has negative connotations.

I'm going to say the 1930's, the minifigs fit well with the planes and vehicles from that era.

Bi-planes were still used in the early 30's.
