Mraz Skintas Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 (edited) I looked back a few pages and didn't see anything like this, which I found surprsing. Basically this is a topic to review the latest game you played. Of course you can do more than one, and I will start off with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Rating: M for Mature Release: 10 November, 2009 (Worldwide) Genre: First Person Shooter COD Wiki Article: Voila Call of Duty 4 was a great game, and Infinity Ward stepped up from even that with Modern Warfare 2. It had a very well developed story, and it was great to see the return of Captain 'Soap' MacTavish, and Captain Price, whom is recsued by Soap and Roach from the Gulag, in Russia. There are many improved aspects of the multiplayer, such as customizable Killstreaks, titles, and Emblems. There are also many new weapons, as well as some neat new attachments and perks. SpecOps mode is great, as it presents a challange, as well as some missions of all different types. My favorites are those that you must use stealth and a sniper rifle to get to your objectives, which pay respect to the missions 'All Ghillied Up' and 'One Shot, One Kill,' and the Snowmobile racing. The game had a very well developed plot, compared to many other FPS'. Modern Warfare 2 is set five years after the conclusion of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Despite the efforts of the Marines and the SAS, the Ultranationalists seize control of Russia and enshrine Imran Zakhaev, the deceased leader of the Ultrantionalists, a hero and martyr. Meanwhile, Vladimir Makarov, one of Zakhaev's former lieutenants, begins a reign of terror against Europe by staging numerous terror attacks. The game begins in Afghanistan, where US Army Ranger Private Allen of 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment participates in an operation to retake an Afghan city from local militia. Impressed, General Shepherd recruits Allen as a CIA operative and places him in Makarov's organization as an undercover operative. Meanwhile, Soap and Roach infiltrate a Russian airbase to recover an American ACS module. Allen then participates with Makarov in a terrorist attack on a Russian airport. However, Makarov is somehow aware that Allen is an undercover CIA agent, and kills Allen before fleeing the airport. The terrorist attack was made to look as if done by Americans as Makarov and his squad speak English and use NATO weapons (i.e. M4A1 and M240). Allen's body is left behind for the Russians to find, which will be identified as American and incite anti-American sentiment in Russia. The resulting electromagnetic pulse cripples both the US and Russian forces in the city. Planes and other flying vehicles crash to earth, and Sergeant Foley and his squad discover that the Air Force has assumed that D.C. is lost and carpet bomb the city. The only way to abort the operation is to set off green flares on the roof of the White House, which is under Russian control. Foley and his squad fight their way to the roof the building and manage to set off their flares in the nick of time, while green flares on the roofs of other D.C. landmarks signifies that the city remains firmly in American hands. Foley and the squad vow to take the fight to the Russians, burning down their capital just as they did to Washington. However, Makarov is still on the loose. Narrowing down his hiding place to two separate locations, Task Force 141 decides to split up. Soap and Price go to the boneyards in Afghanistan, whilst Roach and Ghost raid Makarov's safehouse in the Caucasus Mountains. It is revealed to be a trap, but Task Force fights their way through the safehouse and obtain vital intelligence to put an end to him for good. However, General Shepherd betrays them and kills both Ghost and Roach. He intends to take advantage of the global crisis to turn himself into a global hero as well as write history how he sees fit. Price and Soap manage to escape Shepherd's ambush, and convinces Makarov to reveal Shepherd's location to them. In Afghanistan, Soap and Price decide to take revenge on him in one final, bloody suicide mission. They attack his base there, but he escapes on a boat. They chase him on a boat down a Afghan river, and Price shoots the helicopter Shephard tries to escape in down, but he and Soap fall down a waterfall. The heavily wounded Soap stumbes through the crash site and chases Shepherd, but Shepherd knocks him out and stabs him with a Knife. As Soap lay dying, Shepherd and Price fight. By ripping the knife out of his own chest, Soap manages to kill Shepherd with a knife throw to the head. Nikolai then arrives to extract them. Price warns Nikolai that they will be international fugitives for what they've done, but Nikolai insists he knows a safe place to take them. ] Story: 24/25 The game had a wonderful plot, probably the greatest FPS plot I've ever seen, and it had a major twist. The plot was initially left open, which possbily means that there will be a thrid instalment, probably involving The Army Rangers and TF 141 going to Russia. The only problem with the campaing was that it was rather short, seeing as it took me only about 5 hours to complete it. Gameplay: 25/25 The control scheme was solid and smooth, and teh game was neither too hard, nor terribly easy. Replayability: 24/25 The stroy is worth playing again, especially to get the intel items and find easter eggs, but after soom time, it gets repetitive. SpecOps is fun too, but after you get all 69 stars, there are only a few missions that I actually wanted to play again. But multiplayer gives you something new every match, and that makes the game worth holding onto. (not that the other things don't, but whatever.) Multiplayer: 25/25 There are 70 levels to go through, and you will find something new with almost every promotion. There are multiple weapon, perk, and killstreak combonations to tryout, and certain challenges for each, so even once you reach level 70, there is still a ton to do. Overall: 98/100 The game had many aspects that made it great, but I can't describe what you'll like about it, but I liked all but the few things I mentioned above. I would definitely recommend the game to anyone. Sorry if the review isn't great, but this is my first time reviewing anything, so if at all possible, could some of the pro reviewers tell me thing I should work on for next time? Thanks. -'Skintas Edited December 31, 2009 by Mraz 'Skintas Quote

Disturbia Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 The latest game I played was MW2, but that's just been reviewed so I'm gonna do one of my all time favourite games that was released recently Name: Halo 3: ODST Rating: M for Mature Release: 22 September, 2009 (Worldwide) Genre: First Person Shooter Wiki Article: 'Ere Halo is one of the most successful game series of all time, and while I think Halo 3 is the best, ODST comes pretty close to second. You're no longer in the boots of the Master Chief, who is a super strong warrior who jumps higher, runs faster and endures longer than a human marine. This time we are in the boots of an ODST (orbital drop shock trooper), who isn't the Master Chief. Grunts still can be killed in one punch, don't worry about that. Story: 22/25 - The ODST campaign (I feel) is longer than the Halo 3 one, and much better. It also has a great story that coincides with Halo 2, and the legendary ending coincides with Halo 3. There are more levels, but one level feels shorter than a level from Halo 3. The enemies don't seem any tougher than they were in Halo 3 and there are no new vehicles. The latter statement brings the campaign down a mark - I expected to see new stuff. You can't even drive wraiths anymore. There is a new enemy, however, the Engineers. They're not new to the Halo universe, but are to the FPS games (I don't count the hack on Halo:CE) and are quite deadly because they're fitted with explosives. So many times have I under-estimated these ugly blimps. There are two new AWESOME weapons, the SMG (new version) and Automag pistol. I'm no gun nut, so I don't know the full names of the guns. The Automag is perhaps the best pistol in gaming history, it's more powerful than you think. Grunts fall in one shot to the head, and it's unbelievably easy to lock onto its head. The SMG is very effective against Brutes, Jackals, Drones, Grunts, even Hunters (when you hit in the right place). All in all, a great story. A lost rookie looking for the rest of his squad, encountering trouble on the way. There's also that detective element to the story, as you have to find the 'beacons' to unlock the next mission. This is quite annoying to those who are bad sighted and impatient (I am both), but I still found the clues in par time. I give a high mark to the campaign. Gameplay: 23/25 - Pretty much flawless. Simple controls, the very same ones as Halo 3, so Halo fans must have been pleased. Graphics have improved since Halo 3. It's down two marks because of what happens when you lose health. Your screens goes completey red. ARGHHHH! It's much worse on COD games! Since I have bad eyesight, I find it a bit difficult to navigate or see much when the screen goes totally red. Replayability: 25/25 - Why not? Just like getting the skulls in Halo 3, there is a replayability factor to ODST. This is finding all the audio logs, which result in 4 achievements at least. They also give a bit of background information on New Mombasa, but I didn't listen to them and instead read about them online. There's also two achievements on either killing 10 engineers or killing none. You won't get both in one campaign run, trust me. No flaws I can think of here. Multiplayer: 20/25 - The only thing that comes close to multiplayer is Firefight. It goes down a few marks because Firefight doesn't work like matchmaking, and it's pretty much invite only parties limited to 4 people. Here you can spend a few hours shooting the crap out of grunts and brutes, and dependent on the map, run them down in choppers or ghosts. It's quite fun, I guarantee. Better to do it on Heroic with 3 friends or guests. Best map is Lost Platoon, because you can just go drive by shooting in a Warthog and Chopper. Firefight is not much fun on your own. Overall: 96/100 - The flaws are minor, like bloody red screens and lack of real matchmaking (well, maybe this one isn't minor), but I truly recommend this awesome game. Buy it and don't regret it.
