Top Hat or Bowler Hat

My friend has some money to buy a hat, and he appealed on facebook for help deciding what type to buy. So my other friend and I got into a giant war about whether he should buy a top hat or a bowler hat, posting links back and forth in the comments. Then I decided to ask you guys - what's your preference? I won't tell you mine because I don't want to sway your opinion. However, some evidence for the jury to consider...

If he is a magician or plans to do magic tricks, Top Hat definatly. Otherwise go for the bowler.

Thats hard because both are very iconic and very cool. It also depends on what hes wearing it with so it'll be hard to choose. If it's a tux, something fancy, or a metal rock band then go with the top hat but if it's more everyday go with the bowler. That's just my two cents as I would get both personally, if I had the money .

Face shape decides it all. Round Hat + Round Face = Bad. Means I cant wear a bowler hat, I love my Top Hat.

No, in all seriousness I would say Bowler Hat, it is not so obtrusive so you can get away with wearing it alot more than a Top Hat.

Hmm, perhaps I ought clarify so that you don't get caught up in the "unobtrusiveness" point - we're in a Florida high school. You can wear any hat you want, no questions asked. Until you get inside a classroom, of course.

Well, I normally wear a bowler hat which I find extremely comfortable in all seasons, even in winter. )

Bowler hat gives you an appearance of a smart man (however it should be worn with a proper suit, of course) and unlike top hat doesn't give you that a bit freakish look nowadays.

However I also wear short top hat from time to time, but mostly for special occasions.

I'd definitely recommend a woolen bowler hat. )
