tin7_creations Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 I just got this new idea for making minifig torsos bulkier. I've been trying to create a Hulk fig, but the decal just doesn't do the Hulk body justice. I came to the same conclusion when I made my Santa fig; decals don't really add "mass" to a fig. So I've been looking for ideas, and the most promising one the I came up with is sculpting the torso piece "larger". Actually putting Sculpey onto the fig, sculpt Hulk's abs, or Santa's belly, to create a somewhat thicker torso. I have a bunch of un-unsed torsos lying around, I plan to put Sculpey abs on them and paint them green to see if it would work for Hulk, tell me what you guys think of the idea, any suggestions are welcome! Thanks, ~tin7 Quote
Dutch Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 Sounds like a great idea to me. Good luck Quote
Darth Hawken Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 Good idea but only if you are a good sculptor and painter. How would you harden the clay though. Wouldn't legos melt in the oven Quote
Dutch Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 There's different types of clay Darth Hawken some can be boiled, hair dryed or put in the oven I believe that tin7 uses option 1 and 2. Quote
Badsneaker Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 Crayola make the white clay that air drys and paints well. I bought some for my kid at Walmart. Quote

Tanotrooper Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 I did something similar a while ago with a custom of Patrick from Spongebob, but went a little mad and sculpted over everything With brickshelf down at the moment, I can't seem to find the picture... I used FIMO, clay that needs to be baked. Some attempts to boil it ended up being too brittle, and the danger with the oven is that you have to keep an eye on it. (It tends to deform if the sculpt is light such as details, ...) Good luck with it TT Quote
Hound Knight Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 You might want to get some of this for you sculpting. The benefit is that it hardens by itself 24 hrs after it's mixed. Quote

It begins to harden after about 2 hrs, but is still workable for a couple more. The process is very gradual. Quote
