MrTools Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 Recently while working on a part of a large pirate layout i realized i could not stay focused on my work at the beginning, sometimes just sitting down and staring at my plan and parts. After two days of slow progress i got the base of the island done, and after that i could not stop working! So my question to you is what is your favorite part of a build? The beginning ,middle or end? Quote
Peppermint_M Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 I love the moment when (pardon the pun) everything just clicks. The point in a build when the parts go flying into the MOC and nothing can stop you until it is finished and perfect. It may occur minutes into a build or it might take days to snake its way into your mind, whenever it happens it is the best moment. Pure Creativity. I love that moment in anything I do that is creative. Quote
brickzone Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 I think I like the middle best. Sometimes I have trouble putting the finishing touches to an MOC, and also sometimes things just won't gel together correctly at the beginning. Actually I'm finding it useful at the beginning to do a little bit of tinkering in LDD before starting with real bricks. I think it is something to do with it being easier to take bricks away again in LDD, whereas in real life I'm loathe to even "unbuild" a handful of bricks or redo something (even though that is often necessary). I also like the "pre-start" bit - i.e. playing around with an idea in your head for an MOC. This can be an extended process - as I sometimes can have a rough idea of a couple of MOCs I'd like to do for months before I get around to it (given that I can only do a certain amount of Lego building). JimBee Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 I like the end the best. Sometimes building can seem like a chore for me (JSF w/ Hyperdrive Ring, for example), and I usually build on the floor where there's room, so I'm thankful that I can stretch after a long build. And there's always that gratification you get when completing a set. I also enjoy building the minifigs- even if they do take the longest to build (at the beginning of the build, you have a hard time finding the pieces for large sets, and they're just too distracting. ). It's always fun to assemble them, give them weapons or other items, and even set them up in a line. Quote
Etzel Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 Pretty much like what Peppermint_M said. "When it just clicks!" The moment when you realise exactly how you must do, and which piece you must use to make it the way you want. That's the moment you go: - Eureka! I have found it! Quote
Milan Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 When I solve a big problem when some part of a MOC is too fragile, or some part wont fit somewhere, and at the end everything is just right! Quote
Big Cam Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 Oh boy, I suppose when I am about 90% done, then I get excited. It's nice when you are about half way done and you can start to see the set come to life, but when you are almost done and sometimes sets have you connect large pieces together towards the end, thats my favorite part. Pretty much like what Peppermint_M said. "When it just clicks!"The moment when you realise exactly how you must do, and which piece you must use to make it the way you want. That's the moment you go: - Eureka! I have found it! That's also a great moment. Quote
Commodore Hornbricker Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 The 20 - 70% phase. After you get it off the ground and the vision has really solidified and it has taken shape but you are still working out the details and the difficult parts in your head and with small tests. Quote
harrysnapperorgans Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 I get exited after an idea really starts working. Then inspiration strikes and I can just keep going for hours. Now in my post-dark-ages and it's great to have my wife around for her non-lego-builder opinion. She sometimes suggests things which are a little tricky to achieve, or will use lots of parts, and that challenges me to figure out how to do it. The worst part of a build is when I run out of parts that I really need. Parts available on Bricklink? CHECK. Cash available in bank account? FAIL. Waiting until next payday? TORTURE! Quote
