diabloiij Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 I am trying to make some custom Lego parts. designing is the easy part, but I am stuck at cutting and shaping ABS plastic. My plastic cutting X Acto Knife is not getting the job done. (I used to use it on gundam models made from softer plastics) Does anyone know or is already using a certain tool that he think is best for cutting ABS plastic? I am thinking maybe an electric heated xacto knife? Thank you! Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 Get some surgeon scalpels, or a stanley knife. Quote
Omicron Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 A dremel can be used to cut as well with the right bit. -Omi Quote
Rayman Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Xacto Knife is my weapon of choice when it comes to brutalising LEGO ABS. Because there is a whole variety of blade types avaliable, the tool is perfect for detailed cutting. Just make sure that you change the blade often though, one session of cutting is enough to dull a blade. Other than that I have no problems with cutting through the plastic. Quote
Hound Knight Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 A Dremel/ rotary tool is the way to go. Quote
Big Cam Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 A dremel can be used to cut as well with the right bit.-Omi That's what I was going to say, a dremel for the nig stuff and an exacto knife for the fine details, some really really fine sandpaper too. Quote
