Steff Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 Hi, i am new here. What do you think about SUPERMAN Lego? This is my biggest wish for Lego. Now we've got BATMAN and Spiderman and a new Superman film starts this summer. Do you believe that Lego could get a license for this theme? A few metropolis sets with Lex Luthor, Louis Lane, Daily Planet and a farm set from smallville with this windmill would be awesome. Or Does superman hasn't enough vehicles and rogues for kids to play? Quote
Vader Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 Well who knows, it would in my opinion depend on how well both the batman lego sets do and of course if the new superman film does well. I would hope to see superman sets on a personnal note but like ive already said who knows. Quote
thewrenagator Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 a superman line would not interest me. Quote
jmenomeno Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 Well, if you look at what's happening with the licenses, it would be logical to extend to Superman because DC Comics and Warner Brothers own the rights to the source material. And I think that LEGO snagged rights for this purpose. It really does depend on how sales work out though. There's going to be some interesting dynamics going on though, as Batman is a license that is not being supported by a movie presently, but is supported by comics and publications...which is good (more exposure to places like bookstores and a more regular run of material monthly, as opposed to a movie which releases once then releases on DVD) and bad (not quite as pervasive as a good movie). Another thing to consider is what could be done for Superman. I don't know what the plot is for Superman returns (except he returns), so what kind of set could be done? Not much has come out plot-wise about the movie, so there's nothing obvious that comes to mind for a set. Except maybe a Fortress of Solitude. Joe Quote
Vader Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 How about expanding it to a JLA line??? MasterYoda suggested this to me earlier and i think it would be great!! Quote
jmenomeno Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 That I would go for - and a LEGO Javelin 7 would be way cool! Joe Quote
mutley777 Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 i think batman is a logical choice for lego as he has lots of cool vehicles as do some of the villans. it is a shame but superman does not have this kind of appeal. Quote
reideen1313 Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 Keep in mind - LEGO has the Batman license. That covers (as it was explained to me) EVERYTHING that touches the Batman universe. JLA. Superman. Ambush Bug. Everything. :oD Superman & JLA characters/sets were one of the things I recommended while I was there. Don't know if it will happen, but the suggestion is out there. Quote

Hey Reindeer, are you saying TLC has the licence for Justice League also ??? So its not only Batman ??? That is excellent news ;) So I'll keep my fingers crossed for a sexy Wonder Woman *satis* *yoda* Quote
Beagle Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 i think batman is a logical choice for lego as he has lots of cool vehicles as do some of the villans. it is a shame but superman does not have this kind of appeal. I agree with you, but then, I probably would have said the same thing about Spider-Man a while back. Spider-Man doesn't really have many vehicles to speak of, and its villains are somewhat obscure. But that didn't stop them from making it! I don't really know a whole lot about the Justice League, but it seems like it would be a totally natural fit for Lego. All those characters would make good minifigs, and many could be done with pre-existing parts (Hermione's hair for Wonder Woman, a Forestman cap for Green Arrow, etc.). Although, hmmm, Wonder-Woman's invisible jet might pose some design challenges..... :) Quote

So they have complete licence to use all of DC's properties? If so, that is quite impressive! Still, I'm not all that interested in the rest of the DCU. When it comes to Superheroes, Batman is the one with all the cool toys. He just makes more sense from a builder's point of view. Cars, planes, boats, subs, helecopters etc... Batman has it all! The vehicle is as important as the character. With Superman (or the Flash, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, etc.), the character is the only highlight. Any vehicle is simply an overpriced accessory that could easily be placed in another product line. With Batman, his vehicles are uniquely his own. I liked the Spiderman sets, but I also appreciate that the only standout features were the figs themselves. Everything else would have been just as appropriate in the City line. Still, I suppose a JLA set, not unlike the Arkham set wouldn't be too bad. Later. Quote
Starwars4J Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 If they just have the Batman lisence it wouldn't work like that, but I have to say that I'd die a little inside if they made Superman Lego >_> I mean they could make the Daily planet, and the fortress of solitude...but that's all I can think of. But like I said, I really hope they don't... Quote
Vader Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 I find it very interesting that lego will give us so many batman sets in the first year, i wonder if we will get batman this year followed by say superman next and other dc related in the years after. Quote
Dark1 Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 mabey he'll be a surprise charater in the later Batman sets if they make more Quote
Kikuichimonji Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 mabey he'll be a surprise charater in the later Batman sets if they make more Why would we get Superman in a Batman set? It isn't Marvel vs. Capcom or something like that :P And besides, even if they would only give us one single Superman MF in one single set, they would still have to pay for the entire license. TLC isn't stupid, they'll either give us an entire Superman line or nothing at all. Quote

Licencing doesn't work like that. LEGO either has licence to use Batman and related properties, or in the alternative, they have a licence to use the complete pantheon of DC characters. Right now, it looks like this licence is limited to Batman. Sure, its possible that the licence may go further than what has already been revealed to the public. On the other hand, simply because LEGO has obtained licence to use Batman doesn't automatically grant them licence over any other DC intellectual property. Licencing agreements are usually very strict. In short, unless DC has expressly granted LEGO licence over other non-Batman characters, I wouldn't expect to see Superman anytime soon. Of course, if this line does well, its entirely possible that LEGO and DC might explore that option. Later. Quote

Thing is Art Asylum lost the DC licence completely. So I wouldn't be suprised if Lego are seeing how Batman goes and go from there with the rest. Quote

blueandwhite Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Didn't I say that on the first page? >_> No, not really. You said, and I quote: "If they just have the Batman lisence it wouldn't work like that" Your statement, though to the point, really doesn't provide any explanation for this assertion. Several subsequent posts suggest that not everybody understood the reasoning behind your statement (which you never provided, I might add). Posts by Dark1 and Kikuichimomji suggest that some posters still don't appreciate that a licence to use Batman is not a licence to use all things DC. I simply responded to these posts. Later. Quote
Dark1 Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 you mean i said i hate Batman LEGOS? NO, you got it wrong i like the Batman Legos its just that i misread a post on the first page so i thought that LEGO had the licence to JLU and Superman too, because think bout this Batman is in JLU and so is Superman because of this link Lego might have the license to every hero in the JLU but i may be wrong dont correct be with your 10,000 word qoute just a simple yes you r correct or no your wrong p.s. but what do i know im only 11 and dont know bout that tecnical stuff p.s.s. whew thAT was a mouthful lol Quote

In other words, Lego would have to pay a lot more in order to use the rest of the Justice League ;) Also, instead of double posting, if you want you can just Edit the first post.
