simonwillems Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 Hello everyone, I'll be going to the US somewhere next week to tour the entire country. As I will be flying in and out of Chicago most of my Legoshopping will be done there. I was wondering whether there are any good shops there that sell Lego. I know there's a Legostore within the Loop, but are there other stores I should look out for? I did an extensive search of the boards for the "store topic" in which many people have made a list of Lego-availability in there regions, but was unable to find it... Thanks in advance!
Ricecracker Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 This thread may be of use, and PMing some of the people who live in that area (Stash2sixx, Eilif, etc.) will probably yield some results as well.
simonwillems Posted November 2, 2009 Author Posted November 2, 2009 Thanks for bringing up this Chicago topic, it looks useful! I wonder why it didn't turn up when I entered the word "Chicago" in the search bar....
Modulex Guy Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Well, we do have 4 LEGO Stores in the area, so there is plenty around here, LEGO Store Schaumburg, Northbrook, Orland Park, DownTown Chicago, and the Discovery Center in Schaumburg as well. The LEGO Stores are your best bet for LEGO.
The Alchemyst Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 So you'll be flying out of O'Hare or Midway? Any ideas on the vicinity of the place you're staying? Loop is the best bet. Apparently, Borders is selling some Lego this holiday season, but it differs by store, so YMMV. But when you're in Chicago, and there is a good coupon out [Anywhere from 20-40% off] I'd try Borders too. There's one down Michigan, walking distance from the Lego Store downtown. I find the Lego Store to be out of stock of sets at times; but it does have Pick a Brick, 3 figs for $10, and currently Temple Escape [iJ set] on Sale. I'd call ahead if you're looking for anything specific. Then there's the usual TRU, Target, and such [You need to go a bit farther out to find a Wal-mart]. So it pretty much depends on what you're looking for. Any idea? Or just hunting? Anyway, I hope that helped. [-TA-]
Eilif Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 As well as the 4 LEGO Brand stores, if you can get out to the suburbs... America's best has a large selection, and often times has good deals on older sets. http://www.americasbesttrainshoppe.com/ Cut rate toys often has good deals on sets, though beware, they often mark up, and then mark down sets, so the deal might not be as good as you think. http://www.yelp.com/biz/cut-rate-toys-chicago Also, if you are going to be in town on the 7th or 8th you could see a show in Addison, IL by the Northern Illinois LEGO Train Club. www.niltc.org They do 7-9 shows a year in the Chicagoland area, and often their shows are accessible via the "METRA" commuter rail system. PM me if you want more information. Enjoy America!
simonwillems Posted November 3, 2009 Author Posted November 3, 2009 (edited) Thanks guys! It seems there are quite a lot of Chicago residents on Eurobricks. Four Legoshops in one city.... I wish my entire country had just one, but it hasn't... I'll try and visit some of the shops you all mentioned and I will also try to visit some of the Chicago sights along the way. My place to stay is located near the Loop, so that is where most of the shopping will take place. I will not be in Chicago on the 7th or 8th, unfortunately, so I'm afraid I'm going to miss out on the Lego Train Show... Thanks again! Edited November 3, 2009 by simonwillems
