The Rancor Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Where have I heard that depressing news before...
JCC1004 Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 This has been brought up countless times. The contract was renewed in 2008 and is scheduled in end in 2011. SW is one of TLG's cash themes. LFL get tons of cash from it too. If both TLG ans LFL is making a lot of money why stop it? It will without a doubt be renewed. CW is planned to have about 5 seasons and that will give TLG many more sets to make.
larry marak Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Indeed. The 2008 contract was modified to allow Lego to produce its own space line, of which the two giant space police and skulls set were the test balloon. The contract will doubtless be renewed along similar lines, especially with Lego now having to compete with Mega's Halo line and Best Lock's War of the Planets lines.

No offense, but I don't think Lego has a lot of competition from Mega Block and Best Lock's. Both of those are cheap knock-offs of Lego's, and don't offer any real competition to the Lego. Also, Lego has had other space lines during the time Star Wars has been a theme. The Mars line comes to mind, and I think there might be one or two others. The Skull set and the Police set were not "test balloons" for a new space theme. They were sets designed by fans that Lego decided to produce by themselves. There were no plans of ever creating a theme off of those sets.
Svelte Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 clonewarskiller, please take a look around the site before posting new topics such as this. There's a whole forum for SW discussion, with a very thorough pinned index of topics. The discussion about the license goes here. Thanks.
