legotrainfan Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 (edited) I know this question is one month too early; it's only October. But have you ever tried building a winter landscape? Houses with snow on their roofs? Or castles with snow on them? Snow on trees and so on? I've found some snowy stuff on brickshelf. By the way, these are not my creations. Here a castle construction: Look at the trees in the picture above. White plant leaves were used for them. Simply brilliant! This one looks classic and pretty good at the same time: Due to a lack of white bricks (and many, many other bricks), I'm not going to build such landscapes. I must be satisfied with my Winter Toy Shop 10199 and my Holiday Train 10173. But I'd like to know if you once tackled a winter landscape. Edited October 24, 2009 by legotrainfan Quote
Milan Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 I think I saw few more snow landscapes, don't know was it here or on BS, but they looked really nice. I do not know why, but ironically snow add something warm to the moc. Maybe because it looks like it is time for Christmas and gifts and so on! Quote
ziljin Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 I forgot where but I saw a Viking MOC with snow as the landscape. IIRC the creator useed hinges plus plates to make the sloped terrain which can help you create terrain without using as many white bricks/plates. Quote
Big Cam Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 Wow, those are both very detailed creations. I could see this being easy enough if you hit up PaB at the right time, with the right selection of bricks. Quote
Modulex Guy Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 When I bought my winter toy shop set, I saw a few possibilities of doing this sort of theme. I will most likely carry along the theme of the set and make some sort of city scene for the mantle of out house for Christmas with snowy roads, white ground instead of green and other "snow" effects. CP5670 Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 This MOC (not mine) is probably the best example I've seen of a winter landscape. Quote
legotrainfan Posted October 24, 2009 Author Posted October 24, 2009 (edited) This MOC (not mine) is probably the best example I've seen of a winter landscape. I'm posting the picture that people can find by following your link: It's really a very nice landscape!! Lots of white slopes must've been used for it. I can only say WOW! And the mosaic of the mountains in the background is also amazing! Edited October 24, 2009 by legotrainfan Quote
filip skywalker Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 [insert unconscious smiley here] Amazing! Quote
Wout Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 I have seen around 5 years ago a smaller castle in the snow on Classic castle which was also very nice. I only don't know anymore who made it. Quote
Tereglith Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 I would like to try something like that, closer to Christmas - I had aspirations a few years ago of creating a bignette for each holiday, and it sort of died after I ran out of pieces trying for the Halloween one. My only problem would be a lack of knowledge about how snow piles up and stays on things. (Helpful Hint: If someone tells you Florida has great weather, they're trying to sell you something, probably a condo in Florida), since the last time it snowed here was six years before I was born. posades Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 I've also had aspirations at times to create a whole mini city with snow, ice rink, etc. out of LEGO, but for now it's just in my head. The Winter Toy Shop would be a great set to base it off of; snow is hard to convey though, especially since it's usually so smooth. Quote
avoidz Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 The only time I've ever tried a winter landscape in LEGO was when my brother and I would make ski slope scenes back in the early 1980s. But we'd be cheating and use a quilt with a white underside with cushions under it for the snowy slopes Quote
Topsy Cret Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 I know I once made a simple woods landscape in snow. Unfortunately, I never took pictures of it-but I can assure you that it wasn't as good as the ones featured here! Quote
